Thanks everyone, very experienced owners but it's been about 9 years since I've had a pup! Yep following the feeding recommendations quantity wise.

certainshepherdpups · 07/04/2022 14:27

@OrlandointheWilderness in addition to looking at your pup's diet as PPs have suggested, is it possible that the crate is too large? I've never used a crate overnight, but I had one when my pup was younger for occasional naps during the day. I bought a fairly big crate with a divider that could be moved as he grew.

Suzbug · 07/04/2022 18:33

@OrlandointheWilderness Our pup is now 16 weeks and we still set an alarm at 2am to let him out for a poo and wee. He doesn't always want to get up when we go down, but he always does both when we get him outside! The times that we pushed the alarm back later, we came down to a turd on the kitchen floor 🙈 Might help.

Our pup is also on the same dry food and found his poops hardened up once we stopped soaking it.

Good luck!

OrlandointheWilderness · 07/04/2022 18:38

Thanks @Suzbug!

Autumn101 · 08/04/2022 20:25

Poorly pup here, despite being vaccinated it appears he has kennel cough - poor love is feeling very sorry for himself and just wanting lots of cuddles. We’re supposed to be going away for a week with him but not sure that will happen anymore!

Blahblahblah40 · 08/04/2022 20:43

Oh no @Autumn101 that’s awful. Poor puppy. 😔

Aria20 · 09/04/2022 07:48

@Autumn101 hope it passes quickly we added some honey to her water bowl when ours had it.

Autumn101 · 09/04/2022 08:15

Good tip, thanks Aria x

He slept really well and has wolfed down his breakfast and now having a bit of frozen yoghurt. He’s had a few coughs this morning but is otherwise happy pottering, he’s not as crazy as usual but lots of tail wagging so that’s good. Fingers crossed it passes quickly!

tizwozliz · 09/04/2022 09:29

@Autumn101 - kennel cough passed really quickly for us, even though Ada was unvaccinated, so hopefully it's the same for your pup. Only 'medication' was honey and water. The first night was awful but the cough soon subsided after that.

So I have a serious first world problem 😂. I’ve managed to find a local gun dog club that has accepted Billy for puppy training but I’ve also managed to find a relaxed local agility club that he’s in the waiting list for. Both clubs are at 6:45 on a Wednesday in the next village to us 😂🙈. I’m thinking of going with the gundog club as he can start now, he’s a gundog after all and most importantly, it’s cheaper 😂

abeanbaked · 09/04/2022 11:46

@LadyCatStark I'm by no means an expert but just the experience we have had is that Gundog is of more benefit in the long run for them, we're just starting out and I wish I had done it a long time ago straight off the bat!

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/04/2022 11:58

@LadyCatStark my plan is gundog training until properly established.

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/04/2022 12:03

Gary has decided he doesn't like his skinners puppy thank you very much, he wants the grown up field and trial one! Ffs!!

tizwozliz · 09/04/2022 12:13

Agree with others, I think gundog training probably is better training for day to day life. A lot of the steadiness type exercises have lots of real life applications

yay our puppy, who is still fourth months old, can leap a five foot fence.

Brilliant morning trackimg her down in a neighbour's garden five door down.

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/04/2022 12:18

Ohhh impressive @ABitBesottedWithMyDog what breed is she!? What a fun morning you've had!

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 09/04/2022 13:13

a small female border collie, not quite five months old! We are speculating but it seems she used an old rubber planter as a trampoline.

I was going to replace the fence later this year but she is forcing the issue.Grin

Aria20 · 09/04/2022 13:20

@ABitBesottedWithMyDog haha did she def jump or did she find a hole/dig under?

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 09/04/2022 13:26

No holes(on that side) My husband is going to spy on her later and see if she reattempts the manoeuvre. At the moment she's snoring away snugly on my foot.

Little horror.

Aria20 · 09/04/2022 13:30

@ABitBesottedWithMyDog very clever!

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/04/2022 13:37

Ohh border collies have a fair bit of bounce!

LadyCatStark · 09/04/2022 16:41

Thanks everyone, I agree we’ll do the gun dog class. It just made me chuckle that I’m struggling to juggle my dog’s extracurricular activities 😂. I can’t wait to get started!

PugInTheHouse · 09/04/2022 18:01

Wolfpup has arrived in the house, he is adorable. He has settled really well and is pretty impressive with the toileting, he sits and waits at the back door to go. 2 small accidents when there were several people round the house but good other than that.

He gets on well with pugpup and they are sharing toys and even shared a toy bone at the same time just now. Pugpup draws the line at sharing food, it was my error as I had left wolfpup out of his pen as I hadn't realised pugpup hadn't finished his. I'll keep an eye on that.

First night was OK, he seemed quite sad and anxious and panted a lot but did stay in his bed. He went for wees outside at 1245 and 345 then we got up at 6. Not awful for first night and no crying. He is generally really chilled out.

@PugInTheHouse what a happy looking pup! I’m so broody for another puppy. Our friend has just has a litter of springers and I soooo want one!

PugInTheHouse · 09/04/2022 18:18

@ladycatstark we hadn't actually intended on getting a new pup but our friend had an accidental litter (vet wouldnt spay), the parents are the gentlest, loveliest natured dogs and we just fell in love with the pup, there were 6 and he basically chose us, we didnt choose him lol. It took a lot of hard thinking, especially as he's likely to be pretty big but it feels like the right thing already. I know in a week or two I will not feel like that but in the long run hopefully it'll be amazing.
