The other thread is full and I can’t see a new one! Hope it’s OK to start one. I’m actually barely surviving puppyhood, actually teenagerhood, this week 🤬😡😭.

@Autumn101 walk looks great! Blahpup is awful on the lead… think puppy classes are calling our name.

TerrierOrTerror · 23/02/2022 16:08

TerrorPup seems to be feeling a bit better. She's definitely far more comfortable, the way she was acting this morning was very distressing. She's been asleep all day but did manage a brief zoom around the garden at lunch which was relieving. Will see how she is eating tonight and also toileting and then go from there.

We have a typical terrier here, generally can't resist a moving animal. She's currently fascinated by bigger birds like geese. And magpies she always has to chase, but will happily ignore a pigeon...

Blahblahblah40 · 23/02/2022 16:31

@TerrierOrTerror that’s brilliant news. Must’ve been very scary.

Your pup would have a field day in my garden. Loads of birds (big and small), field mice, cats and even the odd squirrel in the woods next to us!!

Goawayangryman · 23/02/2022 18:36

Ah, sorry to hear about poorly Terrier pup. Hope all better soon. Mine's been ill with a fever of unknown origin (probably UTI given the stench of her pee) and is still slightly off her food. However, she did steal a packet of biscuits today, which I took to be a very good sign.

It's horrible when they're ill and they can't tell you what's up. Hopefully it's nothing major. Vet said there are a lot of weird and wonderful bugs going round at the moment.

Birds. Oh god. Mine is a retriever so she is primed to go get them, at any cost. Our regular morning walk goes past a goose farm. Sometimes the farmer leaves their gate open. We do an about turn on those days....

Suzbug · 23/02/2022 19:18

Glad to read your pups feeling better @TerrierOrTerror

After a rough first week of puppyhood, we seem to be finding our current groove somewhat and my hourly anxiety attacks seem to be down to one or less per day.

I really appreciate all the supportive comments last week. I knew it would start to pass and feels so much better now it has.

IndyPup still thinks 4.30am is an acceptable time to get up... but to be fair he's bursting for a wee and poop, and then goes back to sleep snuggling me...on the kitchen floor. The things we do Confused

Handsfullofholes · 23/02/2022 22:41

We are going through mega teething here Sad. I’d noticed some of his little teeth had fallen out and presumed he’d been swallowing them, but we’ve had three big molar types over the past couple of days (which obviously I’ve kept Blush).

Poor pup is bleeding everywhere too.

Autumn101 · 24/02/2022 08:55

Terrier - how’s pup today? Hope all is ok

Really glad to hear things are getting easier Suzbug, fingers crossed the sleeping gets better soon!! We had 2 weeks of rubbish nights then it changed so hopefully you’ll find that too x

Awful weather here today so not sure what walk we’ll do, yesterday obviously gave him a taste as he keeps running to the front door looking excited

Autumn101 · 24/02/2022 09:01

Did anyone have a bit of a toilet regression around 12 weeks? Pup has been brilliant so far with very few accidents but the last few days has had loads!

Blahblahblah40 · 24/02/2022 09:21

@Handsfullofholes supposedly things like frozen tea towels, ice cubes etc work well for their teething. You also get those ridged long lasting vegetable chews too. How many weeks now?

@Autumn101 we had this a couple weeks back for a few days (maybe about 13 weeks?). He kept peeing inside in my hallway, no poo thankfully and wooden floor. Just meant lots of mopping.

ABitBesotted · 24/02/2022 09:53

Today I learnt the pup who won't go out for a poo in the rain is happy to jump into a flooded river at the park.

Olivess · 24/02/2022 17:07

We’ve had pup just over a week now. He’s sleeping ok - up once in the night for a wee and happy to settle in his crate to sleep during the day if we have to nip out or at bedtime. But he’s so bitey with the children. Just constantly jumping up at them and nipping them. Also the same with visitors - my 12 year old niece came round and he was biting at the her clothes, hair everything. I’ve been really on top of it the last few days and felt like things had got better - lots of ignoring jumping up and praise/treats when he stops. This afternoon he’s been totally wild though - jumping and biting at me which he hasn’t really done before and barking as well. Is this normal? What else can I do?

tizwozliz · 24/02/2022 17:57

Totally wild is normally over tiredness so time to try and encourage them to settle. I used to put pup in her crate and sit with her and tell her she could come out in five minutes if she was still awake. She was never still awake!

Autumn101 · 24/02/2022 18:27

Agree with tizwozliz the crazy wild biting is over-tiredness or hunger for mine - I’ve been really enforcing naps last few days and it’s definitely had a positive impact

CatherineCawood · 24/02/2022 18:37

Hello, first time puppy owner here. I got my adorable puppy 9 days ago. She is almost 14 weeks old and a crazy cockapoo. Although apparently compared to my colleagues working cocker puppy is fairly chilled!!

Been through the puppy blues already. Just got my life back, DD 19 and DS 15 what was I thinking! Grin

My poor pup had a funny start to life. At the breeders one ear was bitten off. Then she spent almost 4 weeks with one family who decided that they didn't want to keep her.

Any toilet training tips? She goes outside in the garden and now also goes when on a walk. But she is a pee machine, she probably does around 20 wees a day. Is that normal? She drinks a lot. I probably get at least 3 or 4 wees a day inside. She doesn't ask to go outside, I have to keep opening the door every 20 mins which is not conducive to work!! I can't use puppy pads she just shreds them/eats them.

She can hold her bladder from 10.30pm to 7.15am no problem. She is crated overnight.

She is on dry food only (Royal Canin) which she seems to have gone off a bit. She's very much snacking and not eating it in one go any more. Still loves a treat though.

Some pics attached.

Poor little mite! I am glad she came to you. I think there is a cockerpoo owner posting on here who might be able to advise you.

Aria20 · 24/02/2022 19:09

@CatherineCawood bless her! I'm not sure weeing and drinking so much is normal has she had a vet check since you got her? Maybe as she's just on dry food something in it is making her really thirsty?! Mine hardly drinks at all and never has - she'll have a big guzzle after a run around and sometimes after dinner but other than that prefers a dirty puddle instead of fresh water in a bowl!

Handsfullofholes · 24/02/2022 21:49

@Blahblahblah40 he’s 20 weeks now (how?!) so prime time! Thanks for the tips might look into the vegetable chews!

@CatherineCawood cute! Sad about her poor start, but now she’s got a loving home with you! Our pup came on Royal Canin, we have now changed him off of it, but we were mixing it with a little bit of hot water to make a sort of gravy. He’s a working cocker and is definitely a grazer.

@ABitBesottedWithMyDog I have had a terrible day and that comment really made me chuckle Grin

GuyFawkesDay · 24/02/2022 22:08

Hello all

Been a bit quiet on here as been poorly (typical as it's half term) and have been busy just trying to catch up with things!

FawkesPup has been great this week, I am sure he's lulling me into a false sense of security before becoming deaf and totally self sufficient again.

Howe we did have a funny moment this week. As he's always been good on the house and doesn't chew etc we thought he might be ok with his crate door open and the downstairs to potter in at night. So did his normal routine but left him out his crate. Half an hour later and he's been padding about, then sits by the stairgate and barks and barks. When I get to him, he walks straight to his crate like "erm Mum, I think you forgot to tuck me in??". So...still in his crate at night! Daft dog.

Can I join you please? Had our cockerpoo 2 days and am in full bitey, wire chewing, crazy mode.
I’m trying to focus on the positives that she doesn’t hate her crate and most poos and wees have been in the garden but struggling! Feel like a
Zombie and it definitely feels like that blurry, all days feel the same newborn time. My daughter has gone from loving the pup to being a bit scared and sad after a few hard bites and scratches, which is tough.

Violentbeauregarde · 25/02/2022 07:43

Oh and the poo eating. I didn’t even know this was a thing for puppies. It’s a race to who can get there first! She just loves it

Autumn101 · 25/02/2022 07:58

Morning Violet, it is definitely like a newborn to start but it does change so quickly! How old is your puppy?

I’ve heard pineapple added to their food can stop the poo eating

Violentbeauregarde · 25/02/2022 08:18

Morning Autumn, she’s just 8 weeks so just a baby.

Thanks for the tip on the pineapple. I’m worried about turning it into a game as the kids find it hilarious!

SirChenjins · 25/02/2022 08:35

Welcome @Violentbeauregarde! A fellow cockapoo puppy owner here - they’re great fun but a bit crazy as we’re finding out. The sleep deprivation does ease as they do start to sleep more, and we’ve found training him to sit and then giving a treat helps with the biting (although definitely not always!), as does turning our back on him with our arms crossed while looking at the ceiling and then turning again and again as needed if he comes in front of us to continue jumping and biting - and then instantly rewarding with a treat, helps quite a lot. He still gets a hyper though but I think that’s just a puppy thing and definitely worse if he’s tired, hungry or over stimulated.

The one thing I would suggest is work on the separation from an early stage - cockapoos are notoriously bad for separation anxiety. We didn’t do this early enough and now at 6 months old he’s like my shadow. It’s a bit suffocating.

onemoredayplease · 25/02/2022 08:35

Morning....pretty exhausted here. Nearly 5 months and still getting us up around 4 times a night for the toilet. 😴😴
On a plus we have started training at our local dogs trust. Pretty much 1-1 and she's doing well. Bright little girl.
