The kids just taught the dog to wink - what odd things do yours do?

I didn't believe them but they've just got him to do it and now he's doing it on demand as we are laughing so much.

I am sure he is just copying them winking but it is making us laugh so much. Is there anything odd yours do?

Mine can put the washing in the tumble dryer, self taught. Then the tumble dryer to the basket, taught by me.

Thanks plinkplinkfizzer - can’t wait to give this a go!

One of mine is a right grump, but full on mammys boy. I hate that phrase, but its the only way I can describe it.

If I tell the kids to behave, he stops whatever he is doing and stares at them as if he is backing me up. If I say no to them and I have to repeat it more than once, he once again glares at them. Even if he is in another room he will head to my side.
If we are outside and they run too far ahead he will bark at them. Repeatedly until they stop.

He will also find the cats if I don't know where one of them are. He will hunt them down in the house and then remain still and stare at them until he knows I know where they are. This one is funny because he takes quick glances away from the cat to see if I'm coming, but then quickly back on the cat so he doesn't lose them. Same with a ball.

When my kids ask whats for pudfing after tea the dog goes to his treat cupboard for his. He dies high fives, sit paw... all basic commands. He won't leave the school gates until he's seen his fav kids, he will sit and wait until the school locks up before it finally dawns in him they are not there.

Stamps on my foot to summon me to where she wants me, back door for a wee, spare bedroom door to open it so she can lie on the bed, water bowl when she wants fresh water, fridge when she believes it's dinner time. She also clonks exh's dog with the same paw when she thinks he's out of order, so pushing in front of her, sitting in her preferred spot, greeting any visitors first will get him a slap. He takes it in good humour and does her bidding

One of my Labs has a grotty old teddy we named Claude. If I say I French 'where is Claude' he'll go and pick out...Claude.

@Aposterhasnoname

Long gone now, but used to have a dog that would patiently queue at the ice cream van. When it was his turn he’d put his paws on the counter and be rewarded with an ice cream cone. Then he’d sit with all the kids from the street to eat it.

Another one knew all the family names, including extended family. Everyone had a particular toy he’d present to them when they came, a different one for each person. When told aunty x is coming to visit, he would rush off to get that toy ready for them. Once had the police round over a report we’d made and he was chucking all his toys out of the box trying to find a free one that he could allocate to the copper Grin

My heart!

Kiss (just a mouth movement)
Goldfish
Pat-a-cake on hand or foot
Ear (move an ear, but this was hardest of all to teach for some reason)
And he will imitate putting a tongue out
Wink - was also hard to teach, but he eventually got it, I think he sees it as primarily a head movement.

She pesters me for banana. She doesn't like banana, but I always gave the very end to my last dog and so offered it to this one too. She hates it but she pesters for it and chokes it down because she sees it as her right now.

Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 05/01/2022 22:17

1 of my ddogs hates apples. She only eats it because other ddog barks at the fruit bowl for one. She actually rolls her eyes at every piece she eats. But rather than be left out she eats them.

ponkydonkey · 05/01/2022 22:55

Ahh my dog will sit, stay, lie down, sit up with just hand signals

She knows all the kids names and will find them for me.

Won't touch footballs, soft toys or anything that could belong to a child, even if they are dog toys

Will find tennis balls anywhere! We have a boot full of other peoples

She is the cleverest dog I've ever had

plinkplinkfizzer · 06/01/2022 01:16

@TheChip Has your dog been watching Disney's Peter Pan ?
You seem to have got yourself a Mother's Help . Lucky you . Is she/he a clype as well . Grin

FinallyFluid · 12/01/2022 11:06

Yesterday we taught the dog to catch beer mats, he caught on surprisingly quickly.

What we really want to do, is teach him how to open crisp packets but he is not interested in that. Grin
