Best way to stop dog walkers letting their dogs poo all over my front lawn?

Our grass is only 5ft deep and theirs no front fence so what do we need to do to stop them?.

It needs to be attractive & not block light as the house is slightly lower than the pavement.

Just a low picket type fence?

iamalighthouse · 08/07/2021 15:38

Get cc tv?

GreyhoundG1rl · 08/07/2021 15:40

Motion activated sprinklers.

Came to say this

Lurk and put the hose on the filthy gits (owners not dogs, obviously) - and I say that as a dog owner myself.

Exactly. Just a low, simple boundary marker.
Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2021 15:52

Won’t the dogs just jump over a low fence?.

It’s more as a clear marker to the owners that this is private land.

What is currently there? Could you take a photo?

naomi81 · 08/07/2021 16:03

Are you sure it's not cats? They poo everywhere over our estate.

StrawberrySquirrelThief · 08/07/2021 16:13

I’ve recently put in a row of box hedging as we were having similar problems (I blame lockdown & the explosion in dog numbers). They are only small & were in a pack of 8 from B&M at under £10 a pack. It has deterred them. I don’t think it’s the right time of year to be planting hedges though at the moment.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2021 16:18

This is the house before we bought it, the brown bits are now grass.

Surely people don’t think it’s communal land?.

@naomi81. Def dogs. Dh went over three large turds mowing this afternoon. We have a cat so we know what a cat poo looks like.

How about just opening a window and telling them to buggar off?

GreyhoundG1rl · 08/07/2021 16:20

Does look a bit like a block of flats...

GreyhoundG1rl · 08/07/2021 16:20

But no, there's no excuse for dogs crapping on it.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 08/07/2021 16:23

Tell them not to. Perhaps they think it's a grass verge, I would let my dog poo on a verge, but I would pick it up.

mineofuselessinformation · 08/07/2021 16:26

I put CCTV cameras in both my front windows. It sorted the problem.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2021 16:30

We never hear a thing so no opportunity @30degreesandmeltinghere & if the shutters are closed we can’t see them 🤷🏻‍♀️

I never thought about lockdown meaning even more unsuitable owners bought dogs than before but it makes sense.

Someone near us has a little comedy sign in the grass, you can probably get them on amazon I expect.

In my experience yes! We get this sometimes on our front garden so I did put a low fence around to make the border clear (I mean it's clearly a front garden anyway but I thought it would make it more obvious for the dirty bastards). It didn't stop anything. I guess if you're the type to let your dog shit on someone else's property...and leave it there, you aren't the type to care about a small fence.
britespark1 · 08/07/2021 16:54

We put railings all around ours in the end (although that was more to stop our horrible neighbour from deliberately walking all over our garden).

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2021 16:56

Looks like we need a 3ft high fence then. Our neighbours front garden is beautifully planted and he put a sign up saying this is a private garden, maybe this is why.

It’s not hard to distinguish a front garden from communal land. We’ve got a green area with a pond, it’s obviously for letting dogs run around.

Could you plant some hydrangeas instead?

Akire · 08/07/2021 17:14

Just get down CCTV stickers it’s cheaper Grin

It does! People are maybe mistaking it for a grass verge. Not that that means they should leave the poo there though. But a little fence border might help.
