Xl bully insurance?

Catlo · 06/05/2021 20:48

I recently got a beautiful Xl bully but I'm unsure as to what breed she is for the insurance, I want to get it right to ensure she is fully covered.. I asked the vets but even they're not sure and have put her as an xl bully.. This is not an option for insurance...
Hoping that anyone with a bully could shed some light!? 😁

Hi ya we got a pocket American bully and he had papers and was chipped when I brought him. I’m in the same boat as you and can’t get insurance. Have you had any luck yet?

JJSHBFMR · 12/07/2021 03:25

Did you manage to find insurance?
Pet plan insure them but you have to call them up and provide ABKC papers x

Nuvit · 12/07/2021 13:34

I did this and never heard back from them. Have you managed to get insurance yet? X

@catlo are asked seller abt this and he said no certificate as not abkc registered - any idea how i get him registered - is it possible?

bunnygeek · 12/07/2021 15:22

@lyndav only a breeder can register puppies, although ABKC aren't an "official" registry as American Bullies aren't recognised as a breed. Technically anyone can make up a list and call themselves a registry.

I've also seen a lot of dogs get called "Bully" when they all look very different, from American Bulldog/Boxer crosses to Staffie mixes. A dodgy breeder might call their Staffy mix a "Bully" so they can charge more for the puppies.

@bunnygeek any idea how I go about getting pet insurance for my XL Bully? First time pet owner and I'm so confused by this insurance.

@TopBitchofTheWitches - ok Karen - rest assured I may be confused on the pet insurance cover but this puppy will be showered with love and affection.

Speak to your vet or ask the breeder for advice, they must have insurance. Did you not get 4 weeks insurance with the pup when you bought them? This is what good breeders will do for you.

If the dog has no registration to say what breed they are, they could be classed as a crossbreed, but there is airs of caution doing this with Bullies, as so many insurance companies don't like that breed type. Their reputation as a status dog makes them a liability.

Blueberrymuffin79 · 12/07/2021 17:38

First off, congratulations on your puppy. If you're on FB you could try asking on the xl bully pages otherwise I'd save some each month for vet bills which sometimes I think is better anyway.
Lastly, do you have any pics?

Ginny25 · 14/08/2021 16:57

Hello, appreciate this is a few months old. Can I check did you manage to get insurance for your American Bully? My son has bought one XL 4.5 months old and I’m struggling to get her insured. Incredibly loving dog so just want to take care of her! Is proving difficult so any advice please!

lyndav · 14/08/2021 17:19

I insured under BoughtbyMany and added him as a Mixed Breed cos technically that's what he is.

lyndav · 14/08/2021 17:21

Aww @lyndav how gorgeous! Is this an American pocket bully? I absolutely adore them. The ones I have met were so cute and didn't realise their own size Grin

JJSHBFMR · 14/08/2021 20:06

Nope! Co op is £177 pm have to call up they will insure under a dogue de bordeaux (I didn’t like this idea in case I pay per month then they won’t pay out!)
Pet plan have to call and £186 pm with both you Have to provide all paperwork and lineage to trace back.
Get 3rd party with dogs trust £25py at least then you have a bit of security for damage etc 3rd party, Put £ away each month in case,
X

Xelam did you manage to find insurance for your pocket bully ?
I have a female pocket Bully called Riley she's just turned 18 month old I cannot get her insured anywhere

Ray50uk · 04/09/2021 19:04

@XelaM

XelaM · 06/09/2021 09:45

@Ray50uk Sorry, I don't have a pocket bully, I just love them! I have a pug Blush It may be better to just set money aside every month for any vet bills as insurance is so difficult to obtain

Ray50uk · 06/09/2021 09:51

@XelaM
Yes Ive found that out sadly it's crazy these dogs cost so much and are impossible to insure in the UK it's madness I can't even get the most basic of veterinary cover she's only a pocket bully aswell

Ginny25 · 18/09/2021 08:14

Can I ask what cross breed you registered? When I’ve tried cross breed you have to put in 2 breeds and then they say they don’t insure those either. I’ve called quite a few more since this post and at the vets they gave me quite a few more companies to call but same thing .. they just say no to the breed.

Ginny25 · 18/09/2021 08:15
