Here we go, hero puppy owners.

We've just got back from the vet where I was shocked to discover he now weights 4kg. Little lump! He's 19 weeks old tomorrow. Wonder how big he'll get? On a miniature poodle group I'm in the adults are anywhere between 6-12kg. I hope he's small as easier to carry about!

Gazingandgrazing ah sorry, I was looking at a bigger expected weight. So looking at that: 75g per day at 1 month, 132/133g at 2 months and 190g at 3 months?

Juiceey · 14/08/2020 11:39

@BiteyShark

Juiceey any news on blood test results? Do you know what they are looking for?
I know they're looking for pancreatitis but I don't know what else. He just said they were general bloods. Get some results at 330, the rest on Monday.

Thanks for asking. He hasn't vomited since he came back from the vets because he had an anti sickness injection. He wouldn't touch a morsel of food last night but woke up and had chicken this morning.

Fingers crossed for some answers soon Juiceey.

I know no one wants their dog unwell but actually having a diagnosis of anything can be a relief as you can then target the treatment.

polkadotpjs · 14/08/2020 12:24

Aw poor juicy pup ☹️. Hope he gets some results soon to help move ahead and get him well

AmigoDog · 14/08/2020 12:41

I hope you get some answers soon juiceey and that juiceeypup gets better soon.

grannycake · 14/08/2020 13:23

@Juiceey Such a worry for you Flowers

ThePuppyDidIt · 14/08/2020 15:24

Thanks @OwlInAnOakTree and @Emrysmcdogface. I’ll give both those ideas a try.

Imadreamer44 · 14/08/2020 15:31

Thinking of you and Juiceypup @Juiceey Flowers

polkadotpjs · 14/08/2020 20:56

Anyone had their puppy being tired and thirsty after flea and worming? He had it as a tablet tonight and seems super thirsty. Did however munch it down like a sweetie !

muckandnettles · 14/08/2020 20:59

@Juiceey hope your pup starts to feel better soon, bless him.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 14/08/2020 21:34

@polkadotpjs no idea on that but maybe try advocat which is a spot treatment on the back of the neck.

MEMpup is doing ok. We have the advantage of old lady dog for night times as they sleep together (plus the posh lady on radio 4!). She now quite likes her crate-I put this in the kitchen/sitting area all day and move it to the utility room at night, so sometimes she goes in during the day as well. So she sleeps 11-7.30. Only had a couple of pees in the crate and no poop so not too bad really. Tbh I think the only time she goes in the house is completely our fault for not taking her out. She is now responding to “do your business” and will pee on command.

Old lady dog is slowly giving in-she isn’t growling at her quite as much and isn’t being as snarky at puppy as at the start, though still won’t engage -I think the amount of puppy licking her bits is helping😱😱😱

The cat has virtually left home though😢 Does anyone have advice on that? Not sure what we can do-the car is fairly horrible to all of us to be fair but that’s cats for you🤣 but I would like her to come home really. She’s a rescue at 4weeks as her mum was run over so she is more dog than cat so I don’t understand. Last night she did a dirty protest in the kitchen, which she has literally never done😱

I’m finding it difficult to find puppy classes as no one is doing them apart from one to one on line which isn’t helpful. She had her second jab yesterday (though of course this wasn’t compatible with her first jab!) and cried for about two minutes bless her. So today I popped her in a bag and carried her around so she could see and hear different things, which included a bunch of stoned skateboarders!🤣

Juiceey · 14/08/2020 21:38

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! JP has been full of beans today and ate his boiled chicken happily throughout the day. Test results were all clear, more on Monday.

Vet says stick to chicken and fish for at least 3-4 more days.

That’s great news @Juiceey! Fingers crossed!

MEMpup has hardly eaten at all during the heat and neither has old lady.

Puppy really liked the stoners and they loved her so she got lots of cuddles🤣

Frolicacid · 14/08/2020 21:55

Can I join?
Frolic dog, an 8 week old springer joined our family of 5 yesterday.
We are experienced spaniel owners, so know what we are getting into. But it’s 18 years since we had a puppy, so eek!
Going well so far. She’s getting the toileting outside. Seems really confident and not terrified of the children or her new home. Conked out on the sofa now after a busy day.

I hope your pup gets better soon @Juiceey. Our old dog had pancreatitis once and got over it really well.

Emrysmcdogface · 14/08/2020 21:55

@MrsElijahMikaelson1 our cats are slowly coming around! We have a system where the cats can eat and sleep away from him (which sadly means I have to sleep with cat food in my bedroom...)

He's been here for 5 weeks and now biggest cat will sleep in the same room if he is in his playpen

I think you must be about a week ahead of my Dpups. What sort of bag did you pop yours in? I’d be interested to know.

I like the idea of a radio at night, how long have you had 11-7.30 for? We are two weeks in and getting midnight, taking out at 3am then waking at 6.45

Pictures are current positions as I type and then one of our 2 frenchie pups, 9 weeks old yesterday

Gosh @Emrysmcdogface, I’m not sure that I can cope with cat food in my bedroom🤮

Emrysmcdogface · 14/08/2020 22:11

@MrsElijahMikaelson1 it's been pretty grim during the heatwave!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 14/08/2020 22:23

@GazingAndGrazing our young lady is just coming up to 10 weeks. If it hadn’t been for the incompatibility of Jabs we would be in a different place. I just popped puppy into a normal jute bag! 🤣 She had her head out and one paw in the end. This is our second time of trying it so I think she thinks it’s ok now. We went to the train station and down the high street and then the park and saw the stoners! It’s a bit tricky doing socialisation currently so you have to make it up if you’re somewhere that doesn’t have face to face stuff going on.

To be fair, we went hard core right from the start. We had one sort of her crate for sleeping and the other part with puppy pads on and we left her to it with old lady dog! She whined for approximately 5mins the first night, 2 mins the second and since then just walks in happily and settles. We didn’t set alarms to get up with her and just went with it and it seems to have worked out fine. I suspect old lady dog has been of substantial help in this department!!! I remember she was a complete fucking nightmare when we had her for numerous weeks on end and she so very nearly went back to the breeders several times! The only thing that saved her was that we had a holiday booked so the breeders had agreed to take her back for that time and she came back a different dog! Honestly, I was on her crying daily at the time!

GazingAndGrazing · 14/08/2020 23:16

Mrs thank you, I’ll give the bag trick a try tomorrow.

We did spend time at the open window and front door today to watch the rain. I think they may enjoy meeting stoners at the skate park Grin

Emrysmcdogface · 15/08/2020 09:27

How are walls going for those that are allowed out? Puppy fails to start walking, basically digs his heels in. Once we're going he is fine, but currently have to either bribe with food every 3 steps, or carry him for first 5 mins.... both of which feel a bit problematic! He's great off lead as if I stride off he follows , but it's tricky getting him to nice off lead places!

Any hints?

AmigoDog · 15/08/2020 09:53

We went for our first walk yesterday and he was a little superstar. I suspect this is beginners luck though and I will be back on this thread later checking what responses you get. Pup did stop briefly to look every time he heard another dog bark which might become a problem. I can’t imagine letting him off lead! AmigoPup has zero recall. I’ve just bought a 10m lead so we can do some training.

Less positive experiences from our walk were DDs best friends dog barking in pups face causing him to back away scared, and a lurcher trying to pick him up by his harness!

Emrysmcdogface · 15/08/2020 11:35

That sounds terrifying @AmigoDog ! Hope the lurcher owner was suitably in control!

AmigoDog · 15/08/2020 12:01

We were talking to the owner at the time so luckily he was close enough to step in instantly. I think the lurcher was just playing but it was pretty scary. DH thought it was trying to eat him! AmigoPup is a 12 week old toy poodle so is tiny compared to most dogs let alone a Lurcher! All was ok though and pup seemed more shaken by the barking incident.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 15/08/2020 16:21

How are we all? Our socialisation in the bag today went to the butchers! They hand fed her minced steak😵 She, needless to say, loved it!
We aren’t doing too badly on the house training front as long as I remember to take her out, but she hasn’t got the, “that’s means we don’t poop inside” message! She is my wee shadow though. Wherever I go, there she is...
Other training not going that well as she gets too excited by the treats and just jumps around, snapping at my hands.
