Do you let your dog on the sofa?

Growing up our dog was allowed on sofa, but we didn’t live in a city. We lived in a new area, with new clean sidewalks, that were not used often and our dog did her business in our garden. I feel like london sidewalks are filthy. And in the park, loads of poo that people don’t pick up 😡 so we always said we would not let the dog on the sofa. But of course the kids let her up and now the dog goes up at night. She obviously doesn’t get she should not do as the kids let her up. So my question is - is this a battle I want to fight? Do I keep insisting no dog on couch? Or do I just give in now? Obviously I love having her on the couch. I just hate thought of whatever she stepped on is also going on the couch. And then if we sit on it in our pjs and get into our beds - yuck! I’m a little ocd with having clean beds, clothes etc.

No because we have a Newfie pup and when she's bigger there wouldn't be any sofa space left for the rest of us. Grin She's also not allowed upstairs.

If we ever get a smaller dog she'd be allowed on the sofa and we'd use washable throws.

Pissedoffdotcom · 14/11/2018 12:47

GrouchyKiwi please please please post a pic, i adore newfie pups!!!

DDOgMum · 14/11/2018 12:49

Nope, personally I hate it.
Different rules when it's just DH and DDOG though 🙄

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 14/11/2018 13:12

Yes, mine is allowed on the sofas.
We have two sets of throws (one on one in the wash), changed every few days.

As for dirty paws, ddog is trained to wait on the dirt catcher mats by the door so I can wipe his feet (every time he comes in).

Bathed every other week as he's so low to the ground even wet pavements get him dirty.

In London I wash his legs and underneath frequently rather than a full bath but mine is a roller so stinks after rolling a few times.

WeeMadArthur · 14/11/2018 13:20

Yes, she is snoring next to me right now, we have some fleece throws that dry really quickly, and we can all fit on comfortably. Before we had her she grew up in a bungalow so she doesn’t like stairs so she sleeps downstairs (but I wouldn’t have her in my room anyway because she snores so loudly I wouldn’t be able to sleep through it)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/11/2018 13:20

Of course our dogs are never allowed on the furniture! WinkGrin

You mean his sofa that he allows you to sit on occasionally lol 😂

Pissedoffdotcom · 14/11/2018 13:38

DP used to tell me off for giving the dog my spot on the sofa. She was 9, a rescue who came to us really poorly & she had arthritis...no way was she sleeping on the floor whilst i had the sofa 😂

Sorry pissedoff you are right, I missed that comment

pigsDOfly · 14/11/2018 14:00

Absolutely. She sleeps where ever she wants but she's smallish so there's usually room left for me.

She's such a good girl though, that I can have her sitting next to me on the sofa while I eat my dinner off a tray on my lap - I live alone so often eat on the sofa while watching tv - knowing that she wouldn't dream of touching my food. Eating my food I do draw the line at.

Pissedoffdotcom · 14/11/2018 14:02

Omg GrouchyKiwi she is beautiful!

DeadCertain · 14/11/2018 14:12

Yes although he is huge and can take up the whole of the largest sofa if he stretches out - he HAS to be with me at. all. times if I am sat down. I love it as my husband is away most of the time so I am usually alone. I have a few sets of throws and change and wash them regularly.

He isn't allowed upstairs though.

Baxdream · 14/11/2018 16:09

It's his sofa as much as ours 😂 although he doesn't moult

Just leaving these here.

sickmumma · 14/11/2018 18:57

Yea dog is allowed on the sofa - unless kids are on there or visitors are over. So during the day she will sleep on there or in an evening she will come up for a cuddle. She is also allowed on our bed but not in the children's rooms at all. Not sure really how we managed this tbh she just kind of knows there's a time and place for being on the sofa! 😂

MrsJayy · 14/11/2018 19:35

Loving all the sofa (and beach) dogs Smile

kelper · 14/11/2018 19:45

When I was a child we walked puppies for the Guide Dogs so they weren't allowed on the sofa (Unless mum wasn't home....)
But now mum has her own dogs its a free for all on sofas/beds/kitchen chairs.
My dog is half whippet and also possesses the whippetty soft-furnishings gene, so beds, sofas, sun loungers, everything a human can sit on is fair game to her, as long as I am already in or on it!!

MrsMaisel · 14/11/2018 20:02

No, my dog, snuggled up next to me is not allowed on the sofa. Not by my husband. But by me - yes, absolutely.

Sharing the same pillow?? envyenvy yuck!

She doesn't start off there but she sometimes wriggles her way up while I'm asleep, especially if DH is on nights. Mostly she sleeps tucked in to me or in between our feet. Smile

Tinysarah1985 · 15/11/2018 22:32

Umm yep my old man has his own spot with a throw on it and he sleeps on the bed. He used to sleep under the bed when he was younger. This was him on my bed the morning my daughter was born.

No dog not allowed on any furniture or in bedrooms. She STINKS!! I don't want my couch, bed and clothes to stink too. Just no need.
