Can he sleep in the car?

Our doggy care had let us down this weekend. All kennels are full and we are going to a wedding. The only option seems to be to take him with us and him sleep in the car. Anyone else done this?

I'm not sure really have you tried your parents and family members? because i don't think it's ideal for a dog to sleep in a boiling hot car with no water or food or comfort

Tried everyone. Will leave the windows open and a bowl water. And he does spend a lot of time in the car.

What part of the country are you in? It's no longer hot here... would be ok in the shade with windows open here - but maybe not further south.
[my friend has a digital thermometer they use in their van to monitor the temperature for their dogs]

How long are you actually away for? If it's just a day, could you not get a dog walker - your vets should be able to recommend one!

I wouldn't leave a dog in a car at this time of year - our summer weather is so unpredictable, and it literally only takes ten minutes in the sun, for a car to heat up like an oven :-(

then probably will be okay but only leave the windows open a tiny bit check on him regularly and yes take a blanky incase

We are away overnight. He will be fine from an overheating point of view. He will have lots of exercise. But he will have to spend the night in the car

Apart from anything else, I'd be worried that someone might steal him from the car.

I'd worry about dog theft too. Just look at www.doglost.co.uk to see how many dogs go missing.

Would he be chilled with that? Mine would go batshit mental every time a breeze blew never mind person went past car. Although he is a collie.

For the same reason they steal dogs tied up outside shops or from back gardens, because they are thieving shits.

Mine often sleep in the car when we're away for competitions but the entire back of the car is caged out and can be left open on four sides, I wouldn't do it if it meant only cracking the windows open and leaving in a car park overnight unsupervised.

I can understand not having first choice of kennel available but there must be somewhere between you and the venue with a space?

I personally wouldn't, not all night I would have to keep checking every 15 mins to make sure his ok. They is some nasty people out there. Ask your local vet they can recommend some other kennels or someone to come in x

Have tried 5 local kennels and will try ones near the venue tomorrow. Not ideal I know but he is quite chilled in the car.

Have you asked the hotel? It's surprising how many will let you have dogs in with you if you ask, but not to be left or allowed in eating areas etc.
is there a kennels, dog holiday place near where you are going? Not ideal but a possibility maybe? Good luck.

I absolutely wouldn't.

Have you tried your vets, they have all sorts of dog sitters advertising on our board.

Do you have a friend with teen kids that would stay at yours and make a few £££'s.

Have the hotel said he can't stay?

I think you need to be ready for a well-meaning passer-by to call the police too ass there's been so many dogs left in cars during the earlier warmer weather.

Your dog will be fine... I'd be more worried about the other hotel guests being woken up all night long as the dog sets off the car alarm every 10 minutes Wink

I'd say fine at night, as long as he settles in the car, but if it's sunny in the morning you'll have to be up early to let him out as any sort of sun can heat up a car hugely, remember it sti gets light quite early. But what will you do with him while you're at the wedding?

Is there a travelodge nearby? They accept dogs, might have a room available?
