Got our new puppy on Saturday. I was in tears this morning and I'm a pretty experienced dog owner. Its just so hard moaning cow that I am He is a 9 week old cocker and is a beautiful, cuddly boy but is a massive shitting machine. And not in the garden either.

So any new puppy owners want to weep in here then please do.

She's a mid brown colour brindle with white patches and IMHO the most beautiful puppy in the world Wink I love your lurchers, the puppy is beyond gorgeous moosemamma.

I keep reading everyone's toilet training issues with the visual equivalent of putting my fingers in my ears and humming Grin

RoastedCouchPotatoes · 23/08/2013 22:18

Hi Lost - I love whippets!

moosemama · 23/08/2013 22:19

She sounds lovely LIW. Smile

I think we all have the most beautiful puppies in the world on this thread. Grin

moosemama · 23/08/2013 22:20

We neeeed photos by the way. Wink

Heifer · 23/08/2013 22:25

Can I play, can I play please Grin We are picking up our 8 week old English Springer Spaniel (black and white) tomorrow morning and I can't wait any longer to join your thread. Just so excited - about getting the puppy, not joining your thread Wink.

Have been reading with interest, and have to admit just a little bit of stcking fingers in ears...

moosemama · 23/08/2013 22:30

Don't let us scare you Heifer. It's not that bad really, most of it's fun ... honest! Wink

LostInWales · 23/08/2013 22:33

Roasted, whippets are awesome dogs. I am not biased in any way, oh no. That was a terrible sentence intilI added a comma, roasted whippets would be absolutely awful Shock

No photo until she is here, I am feeling silly superstitious as we have been a week away from a new dog before and it all went a bit pants.

All the puppies on this thread are the most beautiful and I will fight anyone who says otherwise Smile

TooManyButtons · 23/08/2013 22:41

Ooh Heifer, another member of Team Spaniel Grin. You must post a photo, you too LostInWales. I don't think I've ever seen a whippet puppy, are they all gangly?

I'm not getting disheartened about the toilet training; in the week we've had him Stanley has learnt his name, sit and lie down so he's a bright little thing, I'm sure as soon as he realises what he needs to do he'll be fine. . The problem is I have an 11 year old Yorkie who is pretty much untrainable, and even now if he doesn't fancy going outside he'll just pee up the open door...or on my pillow...or in my shoe...I just don't think I can cope with another one like that!

moosemama · 23/08/2013 22:45

Whippet puppies are gorgeous. They have huge eyes that could melt the coldest of hearts. Smile

Hmm, that could be the problem TMB. Pip copies everything Lurcherboy does and if your Yorkie could be doing the odd wee that you may miss every now and again the scent could already be in the house.

LostInWales · 23/08/2013 22:54

Whippet puppy gangly, oh yes. Whippets as a whole not bright, even bigger yes! Just toilet training and getting basic recall is Mensa level. My boy is also able to chase down and find a ball 50% of the time, what he does with them when he finds them is a whole new mystery.

Heifer · 23/08/2013 22:59

Moose, it's ok not that scared, just realised I had been wearing rose tinted memory glasses before. Have had 2 puppies but 20 yrs ago now and had def forgotten about the 1st month or so....

Have some photos on profile, but will post a new one once she has arrived here. We are lucky that we know the breeder and have been invited round to their house every week so have seen Pepsi grow.

Love looking at all your lovely dogs, best puppies around.

Roll on tomorrow.

moosemama · 23/08/2013 23:16

Just had a look on your profile. She is very cute.

Also noticed your hobby of slagging off Crocs. Grin Crocs have been my friend since we got Pip. My feet don't get wet when I take him out for a wee in the early morning dew and he hasn't managed to damage them at all, despite regular sojourns with them up the garden. Mind you, they're actually dh's gardening shoes.

Heifer · 23/08/2013 23:24

totally forgot that was all on there. Wrote it when I first joined MN back in 2005 I think, still don't like crocs although DD has 2 pairs so I am softening Grin

RoastedCouchPotatoes · 23/08/2013 23:24

Pepsi is adorable.

moosemama · 23/08/2013 23:31

They're just about the ugliest shoes you can buy, but puppy teeth can't penetrate them to get to your toes, so I'm sticking with dh's for now.

birdmomma · 24/08/2013 05:31

Had a lovely long day with Autumn. Took her to the doggie park in town. At first she tried to ferociously defend us from 2 ducks and a park bench, but with judicious use of treats she settled and had a great time. She made some friends and got a mouthful from some other dogs.

Then I've been out gardening for the rest of the day (lovely spring day here) and eventually she got so tired that she fell asleep and let me go out of sight several times. Progress! Her strong urge to dig is going to be a problem as I am a bit precious about my garden. I may make a sandpit.

Try again

SallyBear · 24/08/2013 08:08

Brilliant.

MotherOfGirls · 24/08/2013 08:21

Moose, thanks for the tips. Will continue to try to be a good puppy mummy!

Loving the carrots recommendation and will try it later.

Enjoying watching Ollie and Oscar play fighting over Ollie's chew toy. A step forward in their relationship!

SallyBear · 24/08/2013 10:00

(Whispers) I think that we may have cracked house training...... Or at least the fact that he chooses to go outside to do it Smileclever boy Smile

LostInWales · 24/08/2013 10:11

birdmomma that dog cartoon is brilliant and exactly right. Although whippety boy has no testicles so likes to spend a good portion of his time ensuring the end of his willy is clean. I think DH was won round to dogs by the rapturous welcome he gets after work every day when the rest of us barely lift our heads Wink.

7 days until lanky legged puppy chaos. Eeeeek.

TooManyButtons · 24/08/2013 10:34

Yay well done Toby! (It makes me giggle reading about his antics as that's OH's name...he can't go to a park without hearing someone call his name, only to see a dog sprinting back to it's owner Grin)

birdmomma I love that cartoon, it's spot on!

Is anyone else with young puppies getting cabin fever with being stuck in all the time? With all this lovely weather it seems such a waste not being able to get out and enjoy it.
