Dachshund owners, come over here and have a biscuit

I used to have Dachshunds as a child. Standards a smoothie and a long-haired.

This time of year I always remember cutting the snowballs off the long-haired after his walk.

I'd one now but DH doesn't like dogs.

Tell me about your short-legged little buddies.

I haven't got one either, but I've just recently decided that when I do get a dog it will definitely be a dachsie. I'm reading up on the breed now and saving up a doggie fund. I'd love to hear some lovely stories

We have a black and tan, smoothe, miniature.

We adore him despite him piddling on the kitchen floor.

I want a brown one.

Smooth. No e.

I have a wired so he's a bit bigger than most dachshunds.

The neighbours across the street have a little short haired.

Both dogs have the same old man personality

I rescued mine from the RSPCA when he was 7 months old he's now 6.5

I adore mine and his grumpy ways but if I want him to be a puppy again it just has to snow or I just have to take him to the beach

Oh yes. He loves the beach. Playing football and digging.

Ahhh well, my heart has been swayed by greyhound rescues (sorry for such treachery ) but I will reserve a place in my heart for a little dachsie once I'm an experienced dog owner

Mine sat curled up asleep on my knee. She's a 4yr old miniature smooth in dapple. I luff her to bits!

My sister and I were sitting in the car one time with our red long-haired. He was looking out the window by standing with his front feet on the door handle

A bioy went by, pointed at our car and said to his mum, "look mum, a red setter in that car"

I love how when they run it looks like their arse is going to overtake their heads.

Do yours have coats? If I had one now I'd buy a coat. A Barbour would be vair smart.

He's too hard for a coat. He refuses to walk if you try to put one on him. He thinks he's a rottweiler.

Dachshund: short on leg, big on 'tude

I must admit I think of Daschunds as dogs that have been deprived of legs.
(expecting to be slapped silly now).
Bit like Pekinese deprived of noses and chihuahuas deprived of general dogginess.

I am getting a mini, smooth black and tan pup next week and am beyond excited. Never had a dog before and feel like we are having a baby! Bought a playpen, cupboard locks, puppy pads and loads of other stuff.

Lost the light of our lives 'Tigger' a long haired mini at 16 last year. Full of personality. After looking at the price for a puppy went with dachsi/chihauhaus which were cheaper and shouldn't have back problems. Not the same though and wish we'd saved up longer.

We adore Dachshunds, would one be able to keep up with our Cocker on long walks?

Yes, they love exercise and will happily walk miles as adults but on a nasty, wet day are more than happy to stay home all day. My kind of dog.

Mine loved chasing and playing with her ball. DH would lift the ball above his head and she'd be off before he threw it. She would chase it in the sand and bring it back to him. She would do this for ages. She also loved digging in the garden with him. She was a daddy's tomboy girl.

Ps.
I was there just to stroke her tummy on the sofa, which DH did not do.

We chose our pup as he laid in my arms like a baby and let me stroke his tummy for ages, he did the same with DD and then fell asleep in her arms. We were hooked at this point.

Yep, that is a sign of an all round perfect dog. Not many pups will do that with a stranger.
I had a litter of 7 and one in particular would lie in my arms like that and ignore the others mad play antics. He was a male too and the smallest. Owners had no problems with him as he grew up and said he was the perfect dog.

We had one, Henry, he was a beautiful large standard long haired red. We rescued him via Bristol dogs home and he was loving, funny, obstinate and has many odd and quirky traits. He was another dachshund that would let you cuddle him upside down in your arms like a baby. Sadly he had back troubel and afer extensive surgery which did not work sadly had to be PTS. I wold love another one but the back problems, to which the breed is prone, mean we probably won't. We have a Staffie now - sounds totally different but loves people in much the same way, and is asleep on the sofa on his back as I write.

It was funny digerd as I laid a bitch next to him to try to get her to do the same but she wouldn't and wasn't interested and all the while she messed about he still just laid there. My heart melted.

I do love the Tekles. (sp?) The wire haired ones.

They have enormous barks for little dogs! Brilliant!
