After all my threads we have decided to rehome a pup, tomorrow we are going to look at a litter of black lab pups in hope to reserve a boy (they are not ready until next week), the dd's are arguing over names, any ideas what we can call him?

Also any lab advice and what to look for when picking a pup? we are hoping that we can train him to be an assistant dog for dd2 when we are out and about, she has Autism, so we need to pick a good pup.

So cute! Grin

I would call him Parsley!

redrubyshoes · 08/01/2013 21:29

He looks like a Monty to me just gorgeous.

I met a black lab when out the other day - he was called Bomber. It was so apt!

ToomuchWaternotWine · 08/01/2013 22:27

What a cutie! He's lovely hope the staffy takes to him and vice versa.

Recent boy dog names I have heard:
Dexter
Oakley
Brin
Fergus
Munch
Rupert!

I love Oreo, Whitby and Dyson from the lists here. Let us know, won't you?

Ooh sorry forgot to say I also love the suggestion of Sirius (black) - do your girls like Harry Potter?

42karen · 08/01/2013 22:33

Sebastian - Seb?

Happiestinwellybobs · 09/01/2013 09:49

Oh he's gorgeous !!!

My dd's do like Harry Potter (so love the name Sirius).

I have registered him at the vets today and at the moment he is called 'Apollo' (which we kind of agreed on last night), this might change though. Grin.

How about Dillan/Dylan?

I had a black lab called Dillan, and he passed away this morning. I had him since he was a pup, and he turned 10 on 28 Dec.

He was the most loyal, loving, trainable and gentle creature I have ever known.

You have made a great choice in a black lab, but do be sure you take him to puppy training classes as they can get boisterous and then they are a handful.

I hope you have as much fun and love from your new pup, as I did from Dill. xx

Two of the nicest dogs I've ever met were black labs - Buster and Oscar

Marne · 11/01/2013 10:43

Imabadmum- so sorry for your loss Sad i hope in time you manage to let another lab into your life. We have been looking for puppy training classes, i forgot to ask the vet the other day (was on my list of things to ask), we deffently want to start training ASAP and are looking at 'clicker training'. Puppy classes may be delayed as we are having problens with vaccinations (vet saying 'pup has had its first injection too early so may have to have 3 lots before safe to go out'). I just cant wait to get him home Smile the dd's have decided to call him 'Apollo' but it was a close choice and he was almost 'Oreo'.

our black lab was Casper

Lafaminute · 11/01/2013 16:59

FWIW at this stage: Bear

Ludo24 · 12/01/2013 11:14

OHHH so exciting....
Our black lab is Ludo and is a wonderful doggie. There are some letters that dogs find hard to distinguish so you should avoid names starting with them (sorry - can't remember what they are- think 'K' might have been one)

Other names on the list were:
Bottles
Inigo
Inca

I want another puppy! Enjoy it and make sure you work really hard also making sure the children treat it well. Sure they will but sometimes if they haven't had a pet they need to be taught.

Marne · 12/01/2013 11:43

Thanks Ludo, our dd's are realy good with our other dog (dd2 has accidently sat on her a few times but other than that she is very gentle), just hope the puppy doesn't nip dd1 too much as she's a bit of a wimp, she used to get upset when our other dog used to nip her toes when she was a pup. I have stocked up on doggy toys for it to chew (spent a fortune in pets at home) so he's going to be very spoilt and so will our other dog as they will have to share.

I think its going to be madness on monday when i introduce the pup to our other dog, she's goping to want to play and lick it too death.

Apollo is home Grin after a long drive home, poor pup was very sick Sad. He's had fin chasing my other dog around, she's not sure what to make of the little pup, she's not sure about his sharp teeth. Pup is now asleep and my other dog is curled up next to we (worried i have traded her in for a newer model).
