Name ideas for black lab pup please?

After all my threads we have decided to rehome a pup, tomorrow we are going to look at a litter of black lab pups in hope to reserve a boy (they are not ready until next week), the dd's are arguing over names, any ideas what we can call him?

Also any lab advice and what to look for when picking a pup? we are hoping that we can train him to be an assistant dog for dd2 when we are out and about, she has Autism, so we need to pick a good pup.

Bracken. We've just today said goodbye to our 13 yr old Golden Girl Bailey...Bracken is what we would name a male black lab. Xx

Mangetout - black labs - they really do eat everything!

I remember that quarter of acid drops that went 'missing' and reappeared rather rapidly Hmm

or Wilbur?

So sorry for your loss Andyflo Sad

Loving all the names, so hard to decide, will see what suits him. Just been looking at a photo of them, there is deffently a bit of another breed in there (with the white stripe on their chests) but not sure what, the foster carer seems to think they will be smaller than most labs. Mum was a lab but maybe with a touch of something else as she is quite small, will be exciting to see what he grows into.

My black lab is Max, but our short list was Dexter, Rufus, Humphrey & Dave! We also know a black lab called Dyson - very apt :)

Thank you for all the ideas, we now have a list which still has around 20 names on it Smile, its going to be hard to decide. I'm going to see the pups at lunch time today so will see what name suits him.

Can I add a late vote for Rumpus? Lovely name for a cuddly boisterous bundle of love!

kiwigirl42 · 08/01/2013 11:08

We've got a choc lab called Rosie but I did look at her yesterday and wish I'd called her Pickles. She is always in one!

kiwigirl42 · 08/01/2013 11:09

Beamish is our other black animal name

stleger · 08/01/2013 11:26

I knew a lovely Bramble; I know an autism assistance dog called Nifty, who is a black lab. He is great, I hope yours will be too!

multipoodles · 08/01/2013 12:36

We have a black standard poodle called Inca and Ben Fogle used to have a black lab with the same name. When she arrived she was as black as ink and thought Inka would be a nice name but spelt it Inca (as in teh Incas) :)

We have a short list (which is rather long), heres a few of the best ones:

Apollo (my favorite at the moment)
Oreo (both dd's like this)
Zack (dh's choice)
Bobbi
Lenny
Black Jack
Badger (dd1's idea)

oh, and i picked a pup today, he's a chuncky little boy, has a tiny spot of white on his back paw and a tiny bit of white on his chest. We think he may have a touch of collie in him (but not sure as we dont know what breed dad was), he's deffently mosty lab though, will add a pic to my profile.

Congratulations!! I remember the first day we met Max, our black lab - he was 5 days old! I should have realised after seeing his dad (Bombay Bad boy aka Angus) that he was going to be huge. I'm sure he is part donkey!! But he has bought such joy to our family. Love all the names on your short list :)

WifeofPie · 08/01/2013 19:27

Oh! He is darling! Enjoy him Smile.
