So my beautiful dear friend had to go to sleep yesterday afternoon..

For those that remember my thread, and helped me last month
link

He was rolling around on the sofa with his bone at lunchtime, but then things got bad.. We had to wait for 2 1/2 hours for the vet, which i'm cross about as it was really awful for him, and i couldn't do anything except cuddle him.

The house is completely empty, we should be going for our walk now..

I just needed to get this out, thank you for reading

ChickensHaveNoLips · 22/06/2012 16:50

I am so, so sorry Jellykat :( How lucky your boy was to have a loving and devoted owner who made the hardest of decisions on his behalf x

Toomanychoices · 22/06/2012 16:50

So sorry Sad

Bossybritches22 · 22/06/2012 16:51

Big hugs, they do leave a big gap in your house and your heart. Sad

Jellykat · 22/06/2012 17:09

Thank you for posting.

It's strange, even the vet was crying.. because he was never ill we'd only met her once before yesterday.

Yes, my house is quite small, and being a Golden Retriever who followed me everywhere, and who i talked to constantly, there is a huge huge gap.

I'm so sorry, Jellykat.

thestringcheesemassacre · 22/06/2012 18:04

Oh no, poor you. I'm very sorry for your loss.

We lost our 7 yr old gsd to bloat in February and we are still mourning him.

Do take care, have some nice treats.

Jellykat · 22/06/2012 18:26

Thank you Redwing

Am sorry to hear that stringcheese..

His bowls are still in place, i can't move them yet.. and i felt bad about hoovering today, his hair was everywhere as usual, i didn't want to get rid of it, but it made things worse.

Apologies for ranting, i haven't spoken to anyone today

Aw, I'm so sorry for you Jelly. It's bloody horrible. And don't let anyone tell you "it's just a dog" either, they're never just a dog. We had to have our beloved goldie PTS in Dec 2010, honestly I was heartbroken, we'd had him over 12 years, and he was my constant companion so my heart feels for you, it really does. Just be gentle with yourself and you'll heal in your own time. And in your own time you will be very glad that you did absolutely the right thing for your dear boy, your last act of love and kindness for him. Big hugs to you.

Scuttlebutter · 22/06/2012 19:04

So sorry, Jelly. Sending you best wishes and hugs. Sad

Please be kind to yourself and give your self time to mourn your beautiful friend. xx

higgle · 22/06/2012 19:23

Oh, Jelly, so sorry to hear this. I'd been wondering how you were getting on and hoping your dear dog was having a remission. My poor Porridge is very poorly now too and I'm thinking he has only a short time left, nothing really seems to work for long against this sort of cancer. My thoughts are with you . x.

Gorran · 22/06/2012 19:24

I'm so sorry, lots of love x

ViviPru · 22/06/2012 20:11

Thinking of you, the pain is tangible, isn't it. Allow yourself to work through it however you feel is best for you.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 22/06/2012 20:14

Yes Gingerstuff Thank you. My boy was 9, i work from home and haven't been away, so have never left him in all that time, especially as he hated the dark- big baby!.. Goldies are wonderful aren't they?!

Oh Higgle, so sorry Porridge is more poorly, hugs to you too x

SecretNutellaFix · 22/06/2012 20:41

I'm so sorry.

prettysunset · 22/06/2012 21:03

I'm so, so sorry. My lovely Golden girl is 12.5 and I am sick with the thought that she's getting old. Your comment about your boys hairs being everywhere and not wanting to hover them up really got me...I know exactly where you're coming from. Fluffy hair everywhere is the bane of my life bt I know I'll miss them when she's gone. XxX

Jellykat · 22/06/2012 21:50

Oh i had a lovely ginger old gentleman cat who got run over over 2 years ago, i still miss him too..

But boy light coloured hairs were in abundance then, i used to have to defluff DS2 every school day..

12.5 is good andyflo, i have friends with a girl Goldie who is that age who has had breast cancer for 2 years, no medication and shes still going strong, bounding up the garden steps no problem
(I haven't hoovered upstairs btw)

I think the worst thing is not having anything to cuddle, DS2 is 14 so cuddles are Yuk!

OP posts:
prettysunset · 22/06/2012 22:12

12.5 is good and apart from crappy back end (can only do 1/2 hour walks now) she's fab! I've never read this doggie bit before, usually lurk on AIBU and occasionally post on random bits...So sorry again. xxx

InWithTheITCrowd · 22/06/2012 23:32
