So my beautiful dear friend had to go to sleep yesterday afternoon..

For those that remember my thread, and helped me last month
link

He was rolling around on the sofa with his bone at lunchtime, but then things got bad.. We had to wait for 2 1/2 hours for the vet, which i'm cross about as it was really awful for him, and i couldn't do anything except cuddle him.

The house is completely empty, we should be going for our walk now..

I just needed to get this out, thank you for reading

Oh jelly, I'm so sorry Sad

I remember feeling exactly the same about the hoovering (but was still finding her hairs years later Smile)

Take care of yourself.

So sorry to read this Jelly. Its incredibly hard isnt it, the house feels completely empty. Like you, I worked from home and it seems to heighten the pain of their loss. All I can say a few months on from where you are today is that it does get better, that the unbearable emptiness diminishes and that you will be able to look back at the wonderful life he had and smile rather than cry (mostly). If it feels better to leave the bowls there for a while, why not do that? Just go at your own pace.

Understand completely about the hairs, I had a sob yesterday over something we were throwing out that had our Lab's hairs on (I picked one off and held it for a while Sad).

Thinking about you xx

Im so sorry for your loss.

A friend of mine lost her dog recently and she took his ashes with her on his 'last walk'. Said it helped her to say goodbye Sad

oshuk · 24/06/2012 23:22

awww, sorry to hear about your dog. After my cat was run over, I found a whisker in the bedroom. So sad. I've lost dogs too, one to cancer and one to old age cancer of the eye. Thinking of you. x

Jellykat · 25/06/2012 20:42

Oh thank you, it's such a relief to know you understand, especially about things like the hair (haven't told anyone in RL..) Just can't get used to the silence, and stupidly put fresh water in his bowl without thinking today.

Follyfoot Your last paragraph is so sad, i'm sorry x

I've spent the last 2 days planting a garden around his grave, it looks lovely

Thank you all for really getting where i'm coming from.

If anyone could use a (still sealed and new of course!) XL Drontal worming tablet, and 2x tubes of 240mg Stronghold spot-on deflea, i'd be happy to post them to you, as they're not cheap and it would be silly to throw them away..

Oh Jellykat I am sorry.

I lost my girl last week. She was only 8 but plodded around like a little old lady. We knew it was on the cards as the vet had warned us some months ago and she was starting to get uncomfortable. She was really DH's dog I suppose so I didn't think I'd be as upset as I was. You're right, it's the little things - seeing her collar on the kitchen table and waiting to hear her plod up the stairs at night.

Big unMNetty hugs. They really are such a part of you and how lucky your boy was to have you loving him.

Oshposhnosh · 25/06/2012 22:47

This has really got me! I often say I wish we never got our dog as I dread the day he isn't here, who would have thought an animal could bring so much joy and love to our lives I just can't imagine life without my staffy!! I do hope u r ok and feel for u, lots of love x

ExitPursuedByABear · 25/06/2012 22:56

Jelly - Why not hang on to the things you have, you may decide to get another dog in time. You work from home and can provide a loving and caring home.

Just a thought.

(I am still finding cat hairs 2 years after last cat was PTS)

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2012 23:00

Of course we would understand. You are grieving for a friend. Lost gorgeous boy cat in October and still get brought up short when reminded. Cooked fish recently for surviving cat (his mum) and forgot to halve amount. Greedy moo ate it all!
