Does anyone else like the smell of their dog?

I don't mean when he's been rolling in something disgusting Grin or has been out in the rain and whiffs of wet dog, I just mean his normal doggy smell. He follows me round all day and I like it when I can smell him, it's cosy and reassuring Blush I'm distinctly odd aren't I? Grin

Oh yes, the tops of their heads - love it!
Glad I'm not the only weird one..

User2468 · 27/04/2017 08:47

Yes! His paws smell of warm biscuits and he has a gentle air of cheese, o avoid the fish breathe though.

Yes, love it. Have always had short haired terriers of one kind or another and they have all had the same smell. Had a dog since I was born so it never felt like 'home' without one. Not sure I'd like having a long haired or drooly dog, and they probably don't smell as 'nice'.

I love my Goldies ear smell, rest of him is pretty rank though

ETA: When we got her from rescue, we actually went to get and adult dog but they would only let us have a puppy, as we had an elderly cat. Kids were disappointed as they'd had their eye on a certain adult dog. But when the next litter came in, about 2 months later, they were strangely similar looking to the grown up dog kids had fallen in love with. I tried to convince them that having a puppy would be better than having the grown up dog, by telling them about "puppy smell" and how amazing it is. When we got her, they sniffed her, and ever afterwards "puppy smell" was their favourite smell ever!

Now she is 3 this year and they claim that she still has one area of puppy smell left - on her chest. So the kids are always sniffing the dog's chest. (These are 15 and 16 year old kids, not primary school aged!)

My Lab smells all lovely and earthy.

I wonder if some breeds have evolved to smell comforting to humans, perhaps those that are used to work closely one to one, ie retrievers, gun dogs.
I love the smell of my lab's fur, it makes me want to curl up with him on the dog bed.
My other dog's a GSDx and he doesn't smell at all, also in contrast to my lab, he's not interested in cuddles.

BiteyShark · 27/04/2017 11:49

Umm no can't say I like the smell of my dog. He smells well 'doggy' Sad

I love the smell of my long hair dog (not a roller). She smells warm and clean particularly on her sides and tummy and I often bury my nose in her fur and have a good sniff.

I find it a really comforting, almost calming smell, so can believe the bonding idea.

Wolfiefan · 27/04/2017 14:37

My dog buries her face in us and inhales deeply through her nose.
Sometimes I do the same to her. Blush

Zombie thread! Not resurected by a zombie dog i hope!

I love the smell of our dog's ears. I could sniff it all day.

LaGattaNera · 27/04/2017 15:03

yes smells like digestives!

RamonasDaddy · 15/04/2018 17:10

Bumping a thread here lol.

I love the smell of my Ramona.
She's a dingo/aussie mix.
She also loves when I smell her, she buries my face in her neck and has her tongue hanging out of her mouth. Lol.
She always smells good, sleeps in bed with me, has a mink blanket and everything.
She also gets a bath every other Saturday and insists that I have to take a bath with her at the same time.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the smell of their puppacino.

joystir59 · 17/04/2018 14:53

Absolutely love the smell of our dog especially his cheesy popcorn feet when he wakes up from sleep.

nellieellie · 17/04/2018 23:20

Top of my dog’s head is my favourite smell. Animal, but sweet, almost perfumed.

Earthmover · 18/04/2018 04:44

I can live with the idea of owners enjoying the smell of their coats, but pads?
They'll be tainted by everything they've tramped through. No way would I put my face anywhere near them.
