The new puppy is fab, 7wks, almost 8 is almost house trained ie she will go to back door or squeak to let me know she needs out - plus I watch for the signs of her needing to go.

In the car she is calm, doesnt fuss, actually she sleeps and just doesnt bother.

She eats in her crate which has a blanket over the top, she plays with toys in her crate but come bed time she is driving me insane.

The routine is out for loo, back in put in crate, door closed and she sleeps for a little while. Then starts screaming and howling usually around midnight. We have tried ignoring it, tried letting her out for toilet and last night I came down around 2, snoozed on sofa and kept putting her back in her crate with door open.

What am I doing wrong? Or am I expecting too much too soon? I dont do well on little sleep, do love her to bits, but I need advice because this morning I cant see the wood for the trees. Put her in her crate, shut the door and took the kids to school, she was quiet... until I came home and she started crying, it is like she doesnt like being alone.

As I type this she is lying on the floor at my feet fast asleep. I know my advice to others would be to try to ignore it, but I cant have her waking the DC up. Confused

had forgotten this stage...

JaxTellersOldLady · 25/10/2010 09:28

and would have been the same again last night, although the time was 6ish...

except loofa had us up twice for the loo, DH did first one, I got up at 6 and then it was hungry time.

JaxTellersOldLady · 26/10/2010 10:08

tada!!!!

sleep is good! Grin

6ish is the norm now, because she is hungry and needs the loo. Dont mind that, but when the clocks go back it will be 5ish and I will mind. oh well.

JaxTellersOldLady · 26/10/2010 21:07

oh Bella, you are a copacabana hoot! Grin

Just given Lola her supper as she was asking for food, gave some to Louis too, as he is continually hungry, poor thing.

Anyway, hoping that I will get a little longer than 6 tomorrow.

JaxTellersOldLady · 27/10/2010 20:52

Bella you would have been so proud of us at puppy class tonight!!! [hgrin]

Lola, did a lovely sit, came to me at a few paces for recall and walked around mostly nicely on her lead. I was secretly preening.

Now... I am preening! Then she did a huge pee on the hall floor at the very end when new dogs were coming in, she was so excited.

Wet wipes for the fishy hands next time, maybe?

JaxTellersOldLady · 27/10/2010 21:22

yes, I think wet wipes are the way forward.

I usually keep a supply in the car for sick dogs messy kids.

past few days have been fine, she slept well and is happy in her crate... but her house training seems to have gone back a few steps.

She is going outside to wee/poo but she is weeing in the house too. Sometimes a little, sometimes a 'big' wee, but still going outside and doing a wee there too. It is bugging me, cant think what to do. She gets rewarded when she goes outside and ignored if she goes inside, promptly put outside while I clear up her wee.

When she has had a sleep we take her out, when she gets all excited we take her out, when she has eaten, short while later we take her out. Surely she shouldnt need to go every half hour?

Hmm....seems odd, doesn't it?

Maybe pop a specimen in to your vet if it continues, just in case she's got a urine infection?

JaxTellersOldLady · 01/11/2010 07:04

I think she is possibly doing it to get a treat. Will keep an eye on her and pop a specimen in if it continues.

OP posts:
assumpta · 01/11/2010 07:23

Jax Belle used to do that and I too thought she was looking for treats, but she had a urine infection, a course of anti biotics for ten days, and a right as rain thereafter. I would take her for a check. Belle would crouch for a few seconds, but nothing would come out, then a few seconds later a few drops would come out onto the floor of course. It must have been uncomfortable for her.

JaxTellersOldLady · 01/11/2010 12:42

thanks assumpta it isnt little drops though, more little puddles.

She is a minx. And usually doing it when I am not on puppy patrol... so it could be DH or DC who are not paying enough attention.

Will keep an eye today and if no better will get an appointment.
