Should the Doctor's assistant be asking him" when was the last time he had sex" at tea time??

I'm in no way prudish and certainbly don't want to diss DW, however I have just read this here and whilst a bit of a snog is fine with me at tea time, I really don't see why Amy has to ask the Doctor when the last time he had sex was and that she really doesn't mind a one-night-stand with him.
It's supposed to be a family tea time show and whilst DS and DD were scared witless last week in the angel episode, I thought that hiding behind the sofa was all part and parcel of DW! Sex however, isn't necessary at tea time when we're all sitting down to eat our saturday night tv dinner.
I think that if Graeme Norton (in the next Dorothy prgramme) asked Andrew Lloyd webber when was the last time he had sex, there would be an outcry!

I'm a bit at this too [prude]

I agree completely - but then the writers have obviously got a bit obsessed with sexing things up a bit. Making Amy a kissogram girl (that made for an interesting round of q and a's in the cat household) struck me as a bit , but it's a typical BBC approach - take a great show, yoof it up, bring in loads of young actors and chuck in sex at every opportunity. Yawn....

luciemule · 01/05/2010 08:46

hmmm - the other stuff, like the fact she was dressed as a kissogram didn't hugely bother me because it's a bit over the heads of the kids but actually having sex mentioned in the script isn't (imo) needed.

We had all this with DT - so boooorrrring to repeat it! I was hoping that they would leave it at subtle and underlying chemistry . DS1 is nearly 9 so I don't have any worries about him asking questions but I was hoping they would do something different this time round.

Why not? Have you seen Neighbours or Home and Away lately?

cornsilk · 01/05/2010 23:45

My ds (who is 12) didn't pick up on it at all. He just thought she was trying to kiss him.Gawd bless innuendo. I loved the line 'I need to sort you out..etc' and she said 'That's what I've been trying to tell you!'

edam · 01/05/2010 23:46

Graeme Norton's schtick is all about nudge nudge wink wink so hardly a good comparison (although I'd rather be spared the thought of Andrew L-Ws sex life, thanks).

But struck me as a bit odd and un-Doctorish. A bit of implied romance, fine but this was Just Not Right.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2010 23:48

And you'd have to be pretty desperate to find him fanciable.

He's got the aura of a eunuch.

I'd do Alex Kingston before him!

cornsilk · 01/05/2010 23:49

Alex Kingston is fab! I love her.

I thought it was hilarious and loved the line about sorting her out. i loved his naive response to it, and it went completely over the heads of my littlies. Apart from Dd1 who rolled her eyes and said 'Your Doctor didn't go round kissing everyone did he?'

expatinscotland · 01/05/2010 23:59

there's a lot of sex innuendos and outright talk about it on daytime TV, yeah. they moved home and away to an early evening time slot.

don't have a problem with it, really.

i'd prefer sex talk/innuendo to violence, even that in many cartoons, or sexualised TV adverts.

expatinscotland · 02/05/2010 00:00

went over my kids' heads, too!

they can't be bothered with dr who. they were playing their DS's.

and i think if graeme asked andrew such a thing there's but an outpouring of vomit. eeewww.

janeite · 02/05/2010 00:01

Saw her for the first time tonight - she is dreadful. Can't act - the only good thing is her hair.

expatinscotland · 02/05/2010 00:02

she's terrible. irritating as hell, too.

i was hoping he'd give her a good seeing to just to shut her up for a few seconds.

cornsilk · 02/05/2010 00:04

God yes I can't stand her. I thought Martha was annoying but she's worse.

peasontoast · 02/05/2010 00:05

I didn't like it either - it came across as crass and desperate.

expatinscotland · 02/05/2010 00:05

she needs a good slap, too.

cornsilk · 02/05/2010 00:11

she certainly does expat

peasontoast · 02/05/2010 00:46

It's stephen moffat who needs the slapping

luciemule · 02/05/2010 11:03

The graeme/Andrew thing was an example of another programme that's on at a similar time. Obviously I know it would never happen but that's kind of my point!
I honestly don't see why, unless it's only innuendo, they need to have any talk of sex at teatime. Merlin rating were huge and yet they only ever used innuendo and hardly any of that either - just a few romantic kisses.
We did chat to kids in the afternoon and said that perhaps we'd miss DW tonight as they were a few bits that weren't suitable for chidlren but all hell broke loose and the children had a great big hissy fit! So in the end, I held the programme up/down button and when they were in the bedroom, swapped channels (kids then had another loopy fit).

er.... Captain Jack Harkness anyone? They've been doing 'sexy' since the beginning - it's not like any of this sort of stuff is new.

If this was european TV they'd probably have done the scene with Amy topless

It was funny - undercuts all of the things that you associate with doe eyed companions being madly in love with the Doctor - I like Amy - she made it clear that she only wanted to have sex and that was all!

I don't mind that at all - I think SM is making a conscious decision to disassociate from all that 'romantic' RD stuff.

Which I loved - but I also love the new direction.

luciemule · 02/05/2010 11:58

Don't you think there should be a watershed at 9pm then PBoo?
