Just turned it on and am shocked! There is a 12-year-old girl who will not go out of the house without a full face of make-up (that takes 2 hours to put on!) as she feels so bad about the way she looks... It's so sad... Her mum is devastated. And she is such a gorgeous little thing too! On one hand, I think her mum isn't helping things by allowing her to buy make-up, wear nail polish and spend hours looking at fashion/gossip mags but on the other hand, the mum obviously feels out of control... Any views?

I know, that poor girl needs a huge boost or else she's going to be a right mess in a few years.

TBH I'm glad supernanny is back, my toddler is being a handful at the moment and I need some tips (HV and nursery already roped in in RL).

poshtottie · 09/02/2010 20:30

Its depressing isn't it? Haven't got over the first part with the 4 year old not eating.

poshtottie · 09/02/2010 20:31

I'm beginning to think the baby stage is the easy bit.

mrsjuan · 09/02/2010 20:32

The clips of the mum force feeding the 4 year old made me cry - not just for the child but for the mum being so desperate.

poshtottie · 09/02/2010 20:34

My 3 year old ds was a terrible eater last year, still not great. It was so stressful.

Peaceflower · 09/02/2010 20:35

Am watching and omg. I have a 12 year old who has the same concealer and foundation. I refused to buy her any for a year, but all her friends were wearing them and she was very conscious of her spots. Struck such a chord when this girl did the speech bubbles. Her mum sounded like I have done. Will keep watching for tips!

sungirltan · 09/02/2010 20:36

exercise jo did between mum and daughter made me sigh with recognition. i used to work with teen runaways and do this exercise often. the parent always makes an excuse as to why they cant just talk to their kid..even when the kid is clearly falling apart and the parent is really worried.

schiaparellipink · 09/02/2010 20:37

oooh they are at meanwood valley urban farm. well done for eating a sandwich!

nigglewiggle · 09/02/2010 20:48

Did anyone else think that "experiment" was flawed? The questioner made a clear move towards the knocked over pens with the boys who had played football, whereas with the war game group he seemed to pretend he hadn't noticed. Hardly a valid experiment.

I'm not endorsing violent games, but I hate pseudo-science.

Peaceflower · 09/02/2010 20:52

Nigglewiggle, I noticed that too!

sparklyrainbow · 09/02/2010 20:57

Can't believe the girl who would only eat sugar comes from a family without a dining table and was allowed to eat snacks all the time... Or that she had 10 fillings age 4

satc2bringiton · 09/02/2010 20:58

niggle YES that was really unfair imo

citybranch · 09/02/2010 20:59

My DS is 3 and he is like the little girl who doesn't eat We don't force feed him though! He only eats sweets or bread.
Picnics etc didn't work.
I need Jo!

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 09/02/2010 20:59

watching it now. Can't believe that woman pinned her child down and force fed her. Can't believe she didn't have more support available to her.

MN should be available on prescription to all new mums. sod the frigging bounty packs!

angel1976 · 09/02/2010 20:59

That 12-year-old girl is so cute with her freckles... I am so glad she seems to be more comfortable with her natural self at the end of the show. Looking forward to next week's now!

We have a dining table too!

sungirltan · 09/02/2010 21:01

oooh its that mad scottish woman next week with her beauty queen daughter - i saw them on another doc- terrifying!

southeastastra · 09/02/2010 21:01

i was thinking i've seen them before too

poshtottie · 09/02/2010 21:01

They have that dreadful mother who had her daughter enter beauty contests on next week.

Meglet · 09/02/2010 21:03

I thought I recognised her.

EightiesChick · 09/02/2010 21:03

niggle Yes, I saw that too. Leading their response or what? Had to switch over as it was annoying me.

Peaceflower · 09/02/2010 21:03

Well it's over and I feel deflated. I know there's a lot more that hasn't been shown, but I think each subject deserved an episode. Will be tuning inagain next week though.

cookielove · 09/02/2010 21:14

The girl next week - was it a show about the first uk beauty pagent, and the mum kept indulging her daughter, and when the little girl lost, she had full blown tantrum.

sungirltan · 09/02/2010 21:18

the mum has a really distinctive name but i cant remember it. it was a doc on bbc3 few months back
