ON ITV1

IT LOOKS REALLY DEFFO BRILL

New gripping drama. Troubled police detective John Tolin returns to work after an extended period of leave, but his first day back throws up a complicated case involving a shocking road traffic accident. The victims include a multimillionaire with a pack of lawyers, a young black woman whose over-protective father is crying racism and a PA with a dangerous secret. Can Tolin untangle the events and discover the twists of fate that led these strangers to the accident? With Douglas Henshall, Jo Woodcock, Christopher Fulford, Pip Torrens, and Dean Lennox Kelly

all that because of a bloody wasp?

another reason to kill the fuckers

aristocat · 13/11/2009 22:06

blardy hell wintera you could have wrote it

it was ok - what did everyone else think about it?

wintera · 13/11/2009 22:22

Thanks Aristocat! I put it down to all the Agatha Christie books I read years ago when I was a kid.

I thought some of the dialogue was a bit clunky tonight. A bit overexplained. And I was disappointed that Paul McGann was such a s**t! I was actually shouting at the tele "Go on! Get on the bloody train Woman!" So I was glad that she ended up going on the trip on her own!

Rindercella · 13/11/2009 22:33

I yelled at the tv, "get on the fecking train & then flog the watch & have a great time on the proceeds!" Who said earlier that the McGann character was a sleaze? You were spot on, and I was pretty rubbish with my Mills & Boon ending.

I thought the whole week was very good - there are some bits that will stay with me for a while, such as the man who died in the van and his wife, who will probably never know her husband's fate; and the parents being told of their daugther's death.

Some parts worked less well - the senior policeman's nicely summing up what had happened to each person was a little trite for example.

I knew Norris/Morris wasn't a paeodo though!!

PutDown · 13/11/2009 22:54

Was a little disappointed with the ending, tbh.
I always associate Mcgann with dodgy characters though, for some reason.
Just all seemed a bit trite at t he e nd.
Having said that, still ,iles better than most other things on tv atm.

wintera · 13/11/2009 23:06

I have a real soft spot for Paul McGann I must admit. One of my all time favourite films is Withnail and I you see. That's why I was sad that he turned out to be a swine.

You can analyse it from many angles. Such as, Jane didn't kill the wasp, but her life was actually changed for the better. Even though Paul McGann let her down, she still got to live her dream so to speak. But her happiness was at the expense of all the others.

Lexilicious · 13/11/2009 23:34

Sliding Doors, that's what it was.

Alambil · 14/11/2009 02:36

I thought the whole thing was boring and it didn't grip me at all....!

in fact, out of the whole 5 episodes, the only things I remember are the MIL grabbing the wheel and the black bloke being unscrewed from the van!

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2009 12:07

so after watching for 5hrs it didnt happen after all

all because of a wasp

i did think teacher was a pervert and all he was , was a trekie!!

Itsjustafleshwound · 14/11/2009 12:21

Was a pretty dismal series - could have been so good ...

wintera · 14/11/2009 12:32

Erm, well I think it did happen. The ending was just showing what would have happened if she had killed the wasp. Then none of it would have happened.

BertieBotts · 14/11/2009 16:56

What I want to know is how come the MIL didn't grab the wheel in the dead wasp version? Surely there would have been a crash anyway because of that?

lilolilmanchester · 14/11/2009 19:52

I thought it was excellent and loved the "groundhog day" ending. Blondeshavemorefun - the ending was showing that the accident would never have happened if the wasp had been killed.
Bertiebotts, I guess if the MIL had grabbed the wheel in the dead wasp version, there would have been no stationary traffic ahead to bump in to???

NormaSknockers · 14/11/2009 20:54

I loved it, had me gripped every night! The bit right at the end with the wasp really had me going I was very sad about Richard/Jane though

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/11/2009 12:34

good point bertie

busybutterfly · 15/11/2009 12:57

Clever series though - I'd read some of Horowitz's stuff and knew that man wasn't a paedo (had absolutely no idea what he was though!)

We thought it was like Sliding Doors too.

Paul McGann's character was a total shit, was horrified!!!
