ON ITV1

IT LOOKS REALLY DEFFO BRILL

New gripping drama. Troubled police detective John Tolin returns to work after an extended period of leave, but his first day back throws up a complicated case involving a shocking road traffic accident. The victims include a multimillionaire with a pack of lawyers, a young black woman whose over-protective father is crying racism and a PA with a dangerous secret. Can Tolin untangle the events and discover the twists of fate that led these strangers to the accident? With Douglas Henshall, Jo Woodcock, Christopher Fulford, Pip Torrens, and Dean Lennox Kelly

The policeman said 'Im sorry I have got some bad news' before the sound faded out.

Do you think the MIL will die?

PuppyMonkey · 11/11/2009 10:42

Ooh can i join, am loving this show. I definitely think the piano teacher is NOT a paeodophile, that's a red herring. It'll be something really innocent he was handing over (trainspotting stuff or etc) and he was just waving away a wasp. I also think the lad who was in the car taking the photo of will come forward at some point, but hey i dunno???

What's Paul McGann's game with that waitress anyway?

wintera · 11/11/2009 12:26

I agree totally! I am now quite convinced that he was swiping at a wasp. I think the lad taking the photo will probably come forward, because he might have captured what happened on his phone. Maybe he was filming things and not taking a photo? I also think the sex -offender thing is prob a red herring too. They made him seem a bit creepy to mess with our minds!

Last night the wasp appeared in that young guy's room, the one who's girlfriend died. It was while he was talking to the policeman. I think he shooed it away and let it out of the window.

BertieBotts · 11/11/2009 12:57

Oh yes that's true (about the policeman) I assumed after that they would have said "Can we come in?" or something. Perhaps they didn't want to announce it in front of all the party guests.

foxinsocks · 11/11/2009 13:54

yes I thought that about the airbags wintera

have figured out I can watch what I fall asleep in on itv iplayer so have caught up now

it's good but not quite as good as the one bbc did over 5 days earlier this year I think

it's also hopping around just a bit too much at the moment

npg1 · 11/11/2009 22:21

still not getting this program, anyone else? Im finding it really slow.........

JeffVadar · 12/11/2009 12:29

npg 1 - yes, I'm finding it a bit slow too. DH and I start chatting about halfway through each episode, and then it suddenly ends and we have no idea what has happened! I did notice the wasps though...

Still, it is a lot better than X Factor-type programmes, which I can't stand.

mollythetortoise · 12/11/2009 12:44

so do you think the MIL was already dead when the crash happened? or am I barking up the wrong tree?
how would he have been able to unbuckle her once he knew he was going to crash..
it would have been seconds before impact, surely the last thing going through your mind is "must unbuckle MIL so she dies on impact"

RTKangaMummy · 12/11/2009 12:52

What I am not sure of is whether that if he did a sudden stop beforehand and so burned her seatbelt with fibres etc and then they had the crash

BUT in the tv film she is deffo wearing a seatbelt just before the crash BUT that could be a continutiy issue

But we may be reading too much into this part of the story

wintera · 12/11/2009 20:59

The MIL couldn't have already been dead when the crash happened. She didn't die in the crash remember. She died in the hospital later on.

wintera · 12/11/2009 21:13

And I still think the wasp did it!!

aristocat · 12/11/2009 21:42

did you see wasp/fly killer spray!

wintera · 12/11/2009 21:47

I certainly did spot it Aristocat!

aristocat · 12/11/2009 21:53

blardy hell.....dougie henshall nearly killed him

kittya · 13/11/2009 00:22

Loving it but spending half an episode trying to remember what the actors had been in before!! for instance, the pretty girl that died, what on earth as she been in?

Rindercella · 13/11/2009 09:03

Thank you wintera for directing me from here - Mondami & I have been thinking we were alone in watching! Hope you don't mind me joining in here?

Kittya, the pretty girl who died played Sugar in Sugar Rush on C4 a few years ago.

So, tonight hopefully all the loose ends will be tied up - there are lots of them to fit into an hour. The romance between McGann & the waitress (and what her daft bf does about it), the suspected paedophile (but is him being a paedophile just too obvious?), the fake journo & what happened to the PA, the romance between the copper & his colleague, whether the chap killed his MIL or not, erm, the wasps?

I have reallly enjoyed it though. I especially thought that Wednesday's episode was good (and quite distressing).

TheFoosa · 13/11/2009 09:28

I am finding Dougie Henshall VERY attractive,
haven't watched him before

CJCregg · 13/11/2009 10:01

Girl who played Alice (Lenora Critchlow) is also in Being Human ...

wintera · 13/11/2009 10:31

No problem Rindercella!

Personally I am not convinced that the piano guy is a pervert. I think its a bit too obvious for my liking. I think we are meant to think that he swerved because that young lad took a picture, but I still think it was all the fault of a certain pesky flying bug!

I was surprised about the ending to the Kelly brothers storyline. I only guessed that those blokes where gonna kill Danny (Dean Lennox Kelly) when they told him to get in the car. Up until that point I thought he was just going to get away. That Sandra is a right one isn't she?

As for the Paul McGann storyline. If him and the waitress end up together, I am thinking that we are just supposed to think if the crash had never happened, then they wouldn't have met and never would have fallen in love. Maybe the wasp in the crash was the same one she didn't kill in the service station, so by not killing that wasp she changed her life and other people's lives irrevocably. That's my take on it all anyway!

wintera · 13/11/2009 10:34

Also, maybe it was justice that the Danny character died? After all, he did leave the van, and left that poor man to die a horrible slow death. So if you think of it that way, he got what he deserved!

aristocat · 13/11/2009 17:46

yes TheFoosa i've got a thing for Dougie Henshall too. not sure if its his accent or what? i usually prefer my men with dark hair but he is lovely

i didnt realise they were gonna kill Danny till he got in the car either but agree he left the other man to die so something BAD was gonna happen to him. i thought sis in law knew she had sealed his fate

is it me or is McGann - mr sleaze?

Rindercella · 13/11/2009 18:06

DH kindly said as Danny met that man that he was going to be killed - he always seems to get these things right! The sil definitely knew what Danny's fate was going to be - a hard nosed woman who would do anything to protect her family He did the most awful thing though - leaving that poor man to bleed to death over 4 days. I wonder if his wife ever found out that's what happened to him - the never knowing just seems so awful.

I am liking the theory that the McGann/waitress storyline could be one of fate too: they meet in the most unexpected and tragic circumstances, but find love (and a way out of their unhapppy relationships). Perhaps that's just the old romantic in me though Gah, just read that back and it sounds terribly Mills & Boon!

Lexilicious · 13/11/2009 19:09

I think tonight all the stories have to link up. The corporate espionage printing was done in the MIL-killer's shop. The immigrant's wife is the cleaner in Alice's dad's office. Erm, that's it for the moment. The dodgy journo probably connected to the East African immigrant. Just the piano teacher and the Richard Gere (in Pretty Woman) character to shoehorn in to my theory...!

I watched all four episodes so far on ITV online this afternoon. Got confused by some characters resembling each other - Karen's boss and Richard Gere, and the furniture business couple and the drunk driver + blonde wife/partner.

Looking forward to tonight's ep!

tomatoface · 13/11/2009 19:09

or did sandra not tell them to kill him?
what's the guy who plays the fake journo been in before, he looks familiar

wintera · 13/11/2009 19:46

I remember the Fake Journo guy from Bleak House. He was the one that Esther (Anna Maxwell Martin) ended up with in the end.

I think the boss man recognised the photo of the fake journo guy so am convinced he knows who he is. And when the copper asked if he worked there, he said something like "It's a big company, I don't know everyone" etc . . which makes me think he might have worked there at some point.
