If someone had offered me a pink carnation to wear with that dress I'd have said 'thank you' and dropped it in the bin...

ah

Not watching - am listening instead. Just sooo much better on the radio !

choosyfloosy · 12/09/2009 20:04

God that was amazing [googles recording of D&A with Sarah Conolly]

Mmm, this symphony sounds like chunks of old film scores botched together.

Having said that i've laughed a couple of times, and musical 'jokes' usually leave me stonyfaced.

Choosy, did you laugh at the hoover too?

SuperBunny · 12/09/2009 21:28

Ooo, a Proms thread, yay

choosyfloosy · 12/09/2009 21:29

More at Lionel Blair and David Attenborough I think. Great performances

SuperBunny · 12/09/2009 21:30

Aw, I liked that!

choosyfloosy · 12/09/2009 21:36

Anyone remember the Last Night in 2001, with an all-American programme? (well in part I anyway). Unforgettable.

Loved the piece just gone - rifles were hilarious!

I'm kicking myself for missing SC singing the Purcell

gruber · 12/09/2009 21:39

The sight of David Attenborough on floor polisher is not one I'm going to forget soon! Hilarious! And very interesting to watch.

frakkin - watch it on iplayer tomorrow

BettySuarez · 12/09/2009 21:41

Which are we watching then, The Proms in the Park or the the Royal Albert Hall?

I am channel hopping atm.

choosyfloosy · 12/09/2009 21:41

watch it on iplayer tonight - that's where I am! It's over on BBC4 schedule.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2009 21:41

rifles were very funny

choosyfloosy · 12/09/2009 21:43

Blimey the cleavage factor is enormous tonight.

Kind of makes me wish that male performers would wear vast shimmering codpieces or silver thongs.

choosyfloosy · 12/09/2009 21:44

ooh this is fab

who was the composer again?

another glass sweedie? [glugs]

BettySuarez · 12/09/2009 21:44

oooh! now I wanted to start commenting on the frocks but wondered if this was a bit vulgar (seeing as it's the proms )

BettySuarez · 12/09/2009 21:46

some of those female choir members really need to more mindful of their posture

great piece though

frakkinpannikin · 12/09/2009 21:48

Piazolla - never heard of him before (shocking in a music grad!)

BettySuarez · 12/09/2009 21:48

I wish I was there with my ukulele (sigh)

choosyfloosy · 12/09/2009 21:49

Piazzola. Very cool. [off to google again]

Albert Hall for me BettyS.

Hmm what will the Gershwin be like? I still have traumatised memories of the awful Kiri te Kanawa/Carrero West Side Story recording.

OP posts:
BettySuarez · 12/09/2009 21:51

Yes, I will stay in the Albert Hall now. They all look chuffing freezing in the Park

ClaireDeLoon · 12/09/2009 21:51

The 2001 program wasn't just American, work by Sir Michael Tippett - a British composer - was heavily featured, plus Beethoven and Jerusalem. It was an American conductor that year though.

frakkinpannikin · 12/09/2009 21:59

Oooh Tippett, one of my favourites!

frakkinpannikin · 12/09/2009 22:00

Looking forward to this piece - will be interesting to hear from young composers.
