did they say that woman is 72? or did i hear wrong?

Wilts · 23/07/2009 21:08

You heard right ! she is 72

kathyis6incheshigh · 23/07/2009 21:08

yup, 72. And looks it.
I love the way she says she didn't feel ready when she was young enough because of her career!
Doc is listening to her patiently....

bonkers

Tummum · 23/07/2009 21:10

I think she looks good for 72, but for goodness sake... how selfish?!! She's been trying for 20 years to get preggers... so waited until she was 52?!

Deemented · 23/07/2009 21:11

I feel very sorry for her, to be honest. I can't see the doctor allowing her treatment.

violethill · 23/07/2009 21:11

Very selfish. Poor children.

ra29needsabettername · 23/07/2009 21:13

feel really sad for her- not saying she should have a baby but must be so hard to get to that age and feel desperate for a baby

nancy75 · 23/07/2009 21:15

agree ra29,but she is 72 and single, i was 30 when i had dd and have days where i feel at least a hundred years old, how would a person in their mid 70's cope with a toddler? i wonder if the desire for a child simply blinkers them to the reality of bringing up a child.

jkklpu · 23/07/2009 21:16

She's the same woman who was a "witness" on R4's The Moral Maze on this subject a few weeks ago. Then, it was all about how she would be "pioneering" and it was so "exciting".

Deemented · 23/07/2009 21:18

Wow - the indian lady is breastfeeding!!! At 70!! Amazing!

LittleMissBliss · 23/07/2009 21:18

Im 22 and pregnant with second ds. I am exhausted truley exhausted how would a 72 year old even cope through a pregnancy? Could their body take the strain?

alison56 · 23/07/2009 21:18

won't be terribly exciting at 3am, eh?

kathyis6incheshigh · 23/07/2009 21:18

The Indian woman seems quite energetic. And she has a partner.
He's old as well though....

very pleased to see the Indian woman bf

GenerationGap · 23/07/2009 21:20

anyone else think Raja looks like Jordan? (Katie Price)

kathyis6incheshigh · 23/07/2009 21:20

How interesting that there is a different attitude to it in India.

OP posts:
kathyis6incheshigh · 23/07/2009 21:20

OMG how beautiful is that tiny baby?

OP posts:
Deemented · 23/07/2009 21:22

I know, all that hair!!

helpet · 23/07/2009 21:23

The main difference between the Indian couples and the English lady desperate to get preg at 72 is that there are large extended families around (if not other wives ... !) - who is there for the English woman - she's on her own isn't she? Who looks after the baby/child if she was to die?

jkklpu · 23/07/2009 21:27

There's not much "if" about it: at 72 now, she's unlikely to conceive until 73-74, and the chances of her living beyond her child's 15th birthday, say, are slimmish, and 21st, even slimmer. Agree with helpet the very different atmosphere in the Indian scenarios. however, I still can't help feeling that a lot of it is about the shame/stigmatisation by men of childless women and that this shame reflex is driving the desire.

helpet · 23/07/2009 21:30

Yes, it seems that way - that's really tough and such a very different reason to have children so late. An incredibly high price for shame. So risky to their health.

ClaireDeLoon · 23/07/2009 21:33

Watching it with grim fascination, I'm 37 ttc our first for quite a while. I know time is not on our side, I know we have left it too late, this has shocked me. I think there comes a time when you have to know that this thing you crave is perhaps now out of your reach.

If I ever get to 72 and still trying I want you all to come around and slap me. Or get your children/grandchildren to come around and slap me

jkklpu · 23/07/2009 21:35

where are they getting the eggs?

kathyis6incheshigh · 23/07/2009 21:37

It's funny how when you've just seen a 70 year old with a baby the American woman who was 54 when hers were born doesn't seem in the least shocking.
