I'm quite excited, the advert looked good. We only get e4+1 though so I'll have to watch it later than everybody else.

Those zombies really need to take a chill pill don't they.. something like diazapram would do it I reckon. Then they could rip people's throats out with slightly better table manners and eat with their mouths closed FFS!

Quite put me off my chinese the way they eat!

solidgoldskullonastick · 31/10/2008 00:01

Does anyone else have a low-level but persistent longing to be a zombie extra in something like this?

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 31/10/2008 00:39

LOL Solid, yes, I actually think I could do it really well! I was making the noises yesterday and freaking out 16 year old DS!

Lomond · 31/10/2008 09:49

Zombies can't run! I didn't see it last night. Have decided that since I missed the start I am going to watch it all together. The last episode I saw one was running and I thought I'd have to change my zombie plan

TheInvisibleSpookDidIt · 31/10/2008 10:07

Ooh Solidgold, that would be so much fun!! Lol.

Pmsl Shiny.

Actually that could be quite a good plan: stand behind a fence and chuck them chunks of meat laced with diazapam, then when they're all 'chilled' and not trying to munch your flesh anymore, you can leisurely walk round with a handy baseball bat and finish them off!!

bongosmum · 31/10/2008 13:28

would you really want to survive an outbreak? just think of all the things you'd need to do for yourself...i'd rather neck the drugs, have a good drink and succumb!

that poor woman last night who was hardcore getting killed...is tonight the last episode?

Wendyjayb · 31/10/2008 22:30

What a pile of pants

solidgoldskullonastick · 31/10/2008 22:32

But a glorious fromage to my fave zombie film, Day of The Dead; "Choke on 'em - CHOKE ON THEEEEMMMMMM!"

cathcat · 01/11/2008 01:21

Okay I know that 'Dawn of the Dead' (the original) was meant to be a post-modern put down on consumerism so I am taking it that Dead Set is meant to be a post modern put down on reality TV. Quite Interesting I think.
Am I being poncey?

solidgoldskullonastick · 01/11/2008 09:24

Well you're right about it being a bit post-modern, Charlie Brooker is a tv critic and bit of a ponce himself. Mind you he nicked huge chunks of paid most tribute to Day of the Dead (the third Romero film): female lead character who is touger and smarter than all the others, zombies at the gates, all the trapped characters hating each other and having different agendas etc.

I got to thinking though - there is no really original way to end a zombie film, is there? Either the main characters get rescued and the zombie outbreak contained, or they all get zombified.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/11/2008 09:28

Hmm defintely need two zombie plans now - one for shuffling zombies and one for sprinting zombies

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 01/11/2008 11:04

Ok so poncism aside, why was the zombified Kelly gazing into the camera at the end? A zombie is nothing but a feeding machine with no traces of human rational thought so why would it look into the camera?

Very depressing ending. And I suppose I've answered my own question; for depressing effect?

CurseOfTheMinnieMummy · 01/11/2008 11:17

Doh, haven't watched last night's ep yet (my fault for looking at this thread I know!) but I agree the whole programme idea is anti-mindless television, so in the same way that the Romero zombies shuffled to the mall because that was the mindless thing they did in real life, in this one they run to the BB house instead. The Davina zombie seemed to have a thing about the producer, suggesting remnants of human memory... so perhaps Kelly zombie is 'thinking' oooh, camera, must respond, like an knee-jerk can't resist reaction.

My pedantic question about this and other zombie lore is, at what point does a person become a zombie or stay dead? There were quite a few dead bodies lying around - not just shot in the head - so why didn't they become zombies? Is there a fine line between 'I have enough body parts left to walk, so I will now become a zombie' and 'ooops, I'm over 50% eaten so I will stay dead'??!

Yes, I am quite possibly over-thinking this. Zombies are also surely their own worst enemies; ultimately if the entire population becomes zombies then there will be no one left to eat, then what?!

smurfgirl · 01/11/2008 15:34

I was a bit sad at the ending really . V.bleak but ho hum. Bit too meaningful with all the cameras etc.

Loved the director being eaten and telling all of the zombies off. Fab.

TheInvisibleSpookDidIt · 01/11/2008 15:49

Ok, for all the experts out there.

Dh wants to know what's the difference between a ghoul and a zombie. He thinks ghouls are like zombies, but ghouls can move faster and were in the Thriller video .

I thoght ghouls were more 'ghost' related than zombie related?

(god what a conversation for a sat afternoon!!)

Off bowling, so will leave you all to ponder and get back to this later (probably after a couple glasses of wine )

solidgoldbrass · 01/11/2008 21:15

Ghouls eat carrion, zombies eat live flesh.

HTH

TheInvisibleSpookDidIt · 01/11/2008 21:18

So are we safer with ghouls than zombies as they won't want to eat us?

ALMummy · 02/11/2008 09:24

Well COTMM they would all starve to death (28 weeks later) and then any survivors could come out again and that is what really p'd me off about this. They probably could have stayed in there till the Zombies all starved and would have survived.

I thought this was really good. Far too bloody scary though I couldn't sleep for two nights after watching it so Sky+ and watched when dd had her nap instead.

As for Zombie plans asked dh last night if he had an "End of the World Plan" (he has no tolerance for zombies) and he said "Well no, it would be the end of the world wouldn't it?, thats it" What a dull answer. I myself do have a plan, since having dc I am terrified of such a situation occurring - not just zombies, any apocalyptical type situation.

wintera · 02/11/2008 10:41

Watched all the eps on 4 on demand last night. One after the other. Very depressed at the end though. Was on a real downer when it finished. Hardly feel good tv was it?

SPOILER ALERT !!!!!! (For those who haven't seen the end)

When the boyfriend got shot I thought she might have to use him as a decoy/bait and then the others could get away in the van. Or I thought he might sacrifice himself or run into the crowd as a decoy. Once it finished it was obvious the effect the writer and director were going for with the whole Zombie / reality tv and it all worked really well, so should have known none would survive.

cathcat · 02/11/2008 15:47

Would like to see '28 weeks later'
DVD player is broken, is it coming on TV anytime soon?
Don't like horror but don't mind zombies for some reason. Watched 'From Dawn to Dusk' last night (vampires), it was so silly, so that was fine. Of course George Clooney helped too

GodzillasGhastlyPutridBumcheek · 02/11/2008 20:43

What if they didn't starve, a la Dawn of the Dead/Land of the Dead/Resident Evil films?

bongosmum · 03/11/2008 11:43

well, as they never exsisted in the first place...or did they? cue vincent price thriller soundalikee laughter!!

anyway, i still have a plan. one tip is never let your fuel run down - garages are bound to be hard to reach during an outbreak - they eat microwaved burgers you know.

Squitten · 03/11/2008 16:32

Zombie rampage to the sound of Mika - a true televisual moment of genius....

Bomper · 03/11/2008 17:23

I think they should have had a go at pretending they were zombies to get out, a la Sean of the Dead!! And by the way, can dogs look up?

bongosmum · 03/11/2008 17:43

is that a trick question? they look up if you dangle a treat at them....
