Am I the only person in the world NOT to have Sky Plus?

...everyone I meet says they have it.

And when I say something like: "Oh I missed XXX prog last night." They say: "Why didn't you Sky Plus it?" as if it goes without saying that I must have it.

I've got Freeview box and that's it. Am I the only one?

Our Freeview box has broken and the aerial seems to be disconnected, so at the moment we just have terrestrial channels. A life free of Cbeebies has been surprisingly liberating. Also have a DVD recorder and
a VCR, the DCs love vintage VHS like Ivor the Engine and Singing Kettle,
Have toyed with getting Sky but it's a big amount to go to from nothing, just to watch the cricket.

Problem is we never watch TV because there is nothing worth it on terrestrial, and are missing all the good imports.

I joined Lovefilm, does that count?

Believe it or not DH is a sound/AV engineer ... the cobbler's children...

AbstractMouse · 11/10/2008 23:33

We don't have it but I really want it, I'm tempted by the whole pretend to cancel and get it for free malarkey (anyone know if that works?) but can't really bring myself to be arsed to do it.

Don't know how much sky charge for the sky+ box? but probably cheaper to get a hard drive recorder.

Wish they had virgin in this area, my sis has this and it seems really good, iplayer and 4od and god knows what just with the basic box.

Don't really watch anything apart from the simpsons on the actual sky channels.

TeenyTinyTorya · 11/10/2008 23:47

I have Sky but not the Plus version, despite DH's constant hints that it would be a good idea to get it. There's always I-Player of 4od if we miss something.

My kids (and we) are still reeling from the surpise that the TV we bought from ebay has something called freeview on it. It's marvellous. All sorts of extras. Not just the five channels we've come to know and love you know. Oh no.

Do you feel sorry for my kids now?

Liffey · 12/10/2008 11:02

Ha ha! who took my screen name for talking about piles or period stuff!????

Liffey · 12/10/2008 11:04

40d? I'll have to ask my brother to download it for me. He will laugh when he hears the word "download" coming out of my mouth.

mamaberta · 12/10/2008 11:09

Nope - I don't want to fork out for loads of crummy telly we wouldn't watch anyway. We have freeview and are thinking about getting a HD recorder if we can justify the cost as you can only record a prog on our tv if the tv is tuned to that channel and actually on . 90% of the telly watched in our house is CBeebies anyway

littlerach · 12/10/2008 11:11

Liffey, 4 on demand is easy really, even I can do it!!

We have freeview.

No Sky, or Skyplus or anything. (or a dishwasher or tumble drier )

And we have a VCR still

We rarely watch real TV, usually download and use laptop. I think I could manage quite well without an actual TV, but dh would panic!

staysee · 16/10/2008 23:43

I only have freeview.
Before me and DD moved into our own house, my parents had TWO sky+ boxes (one in the living room one in their bedroom).
I must say, the only thing I miss about Sky and Sky+ is that I can't save progs to watch once the DD is in bed, I have no good music channels (E4Music is PANTS and TMF is always showing stupid things like "my super sweet 16" or some crap) and that cbeebies finishes at 7pm (Yes, I enjoy kids shows!!)

SheikYerbouti · 16/10/2008 23:50

Don't talk to me about fucking sky+

I tried to purchase today and the scurvy robdogs wanted me to pay £60 to get it installed.

They can stick it.

It pisses me off because if I were a new customer, I'd get it buckshee

Anyway, I am only considering getting one because it's DP's birthday soon and I am at a loss as to what to get him. I know he really wants one.

I am going to ring them in the morning and try and blag one. Martin Lewis said I could.

LadyLaGore · 16/10/2008 23:52

yes

islandofsodor · 16/10/2008 23:54

We only have normal SKY. I considered SKYPlus when I could have the box free on an offer but I refuse to shell out for installation for something I probably would rarely use anyway.

FangolinaJolly · 16/10/2008 23:55

Just Freeview here.

Only watch C4 news ,HIGNFY amd sometimes Dave or Crime drama.{saddo emoticon) Otherwise radio or mn.

SheikYerbouti · 16/10/2008 23:57

I'm not a big telly watcher really

I dont watch Holby city or Eastenders.

That's all I do watch though, and the odd bit of Jeremy Kyle when I am ironing and want to feel superior.

I am a highly educated and cultured woman, but when it comes to TV, I am a void.

brimfull · 16/10/2008 23:58

no sky here either
