I am on the edge of my seat

Well, he played his best.

But he lost.

Someone had to lose.

He looked close to tears, though.

That must suck.

tortoiseSHELL · 07/07/2008 08:48

I don't think he did play his best tbh - in that had he played a couple of the 'big' points better then he would have won - say if he had broken in the 5th set when he had break point.

I am pleased for Nadal, he seems quite sweet, but poor Roger.

itati · 07/07/2008 09:17

Why do you hate Federer so much???

Those of you that do.

tortoiseSHELL · 07/07/2008 09:29

I can't see why ANYONE would hate Federer - he is just such a nice man.

beansprout · 07/07/2008 11:22

Nice man with his own gold monogram.

Oh I don't watch ads! Never seen it.

I just think he is very humble, and I also like the way he always describes his matches, win or lose, as a 'joy to play'.

cariboo · 07/07/2008 13:48

Is anyone else (still) feeling completely gutted for Federer?

tortoiseSHELL · 07/07/2008 13:59

Yes. Utterly.

GordontheGopher · 07/07/2008 14:00

This thread should make it on to mumsnet classics. It is hilarious!

donnie · 07/07/2008 14:11

dh was there - 5 rows from the front, the bugger!! didn't get home till midnight and we only live in london! what a scorcher of a game it was!

expatinscotland · 07/07/2008 17:14

'Is anyone else (still) feeling completely gutted for Federer? '

No, not really.

I don't hate him, I just wanted Nadal to win . He seems very sweet and he worked so hard and wanted to win so, so much.

Nadal did manage to get him riled up and that's no mean feat.

The funniest is one of Fed's fans screamed 'C'mon' from the stands and then Fed missed a shot and screamed back, 'Shut up!'

noddyholder · 07/07/2008 17:16

I love roger am heartbroken Love his cardies nadal too muscly and babyish

expatinscotland · 07/07/2008 17:20

he loooked very upset last night, noddy. but hey, someone had to lose.

aDad · 07/07/2008 17:21

What a final it was!!

But Rafa deserved it fully. Tenacious, relentless, focused. In fact awesome in every match.

What's with all this sympathy for Federer? He has inflicted defeat on the rest of tennis enough times, and no doubt he will be back and win plenty more titles.

Nice for someone who's never won it before to win, and being runner-up in one of the best finals of all time is pretty special, and something that will last in the memory of others longer perhaps than some finals where he won with ease.

noddyholder · 07/07/2008 17:22

I could have consoled him would have just the thing for him

aGalChangedHerName · 07/07/2008 17:23

I thought Nadal was sooo gracious in winning too. Everyone deserves a chance to win,and this time old Fed just couldn't cut the mustard.

He's won it enough anyway

expatinscotland · 07/07/2008 17:26

it was nice to see some fresh blood taking the price.

but poor fed looked extremely pissed off .

tortoiseSHELL · 07/07/2008 18:02

Thing is, everyone will be saying 'is Federer past it' - if Nadal had lost then it would have been all 'keep getting better, and it will be his', but for Federer who has had so much success, it's easy to see this heralding the end of his career.

I love his cardies too.

aGalChangedHerName · 07/07/2008 18:06

It has to come to an end for every sportsman tho does it not?

I think Fed is a fab tennis player and i don't think he is past it but Nadal was just better this time.

aDad · 07/07/2008 18:09

Fed aint past it! He is either 26 or 27, born in 1981, and he is going to win plenty more.

He said himself he tends to win more in the second half of the season anyway, and now he's hurting, I reckon he will be 'back' pretty soon.

tortoiseSHELL · 07/07/2008 18:12

27 I think. Nadal is 22.

Poor Federer had glandular fever this year, which must have knocked him back a bit.

Nadal is just to muscley and sweaty. Bleurgh.

aGalChangedHerName · 07/07/2008 18:14

Nowt wrong with a bit of honest sweat imo

Or muscle for that matter

expatinscotland · 07/07/2008 18:40

'Nadal is just to muscley and sweaty. Bleurgh. '

He does shower after matches, and looks pretty clean off hte court.

He's a bit young for my tastes - I'd love to see a daughter of mine with the likes of him - but I'd take him over sissy boys like Henman any day. He plays like he's got a pair. That's what I like about Murray - he goes for it and shows some cojones.

Fed was actually a bit sexier last night when he was getting all sweaty and angry and grunty rather than his usual cardie-wearing Monsieur de la Suisse romande. BORING!

I hope we see more of this pouty, het up, dirty-looking Fed in the future.

TheFallenMadonna · 07/07/2008 18:43

DH couldn't quite believe what Federer was wearing for the presentation. I thought he looked lovely
