Goodness, that was an emotional watch last night.

How compassionate was Reston the consultant. He epitomises the wonderful doctors we have and had such difficult conversations with empathy and clarity. And Paul, even in such a dire state, kept his sense of humour and grace.

I kept thinking, I am glad this is not the USA, as Paul would not have stood a chance with health care.

I must admit that my sympathy is with the driver he hit. He’s lucky to be alive.

Another amazing episode. I loved how that doctor mentioned that they aren’t there to judge people, rather they are there to save lives and patch people up. That is the one of the very basic principles that our NHS is based on.

When I was in Spain last year a man had a bad fall by the swimming pool. An ambulance was called but they wouldn’t even look at him until his wife had produced the health insurance papers.

I kept waiting for the drugged driver who hit the van head on to make some comment about being sorry for the van driver, or thankful he hadn't been seriously hurt or even killed but nothing.

Instead all he talked about was himself, blaming his addiction and then talking about his new found sobriety.

I appreciate he had a horrendous injury and that he seemed polite and appreciative to staff but the absence of any reflection on the effect of his behaviour on the poor Amazon driver, not to mention use of NHS resouces, was jarring to say the least.

As above Tom could have killed someone so I didn’t have too much sympathy .

I agree about Tom, he showed no remorse for his actions. I wonder what sentence he got for dangerous driving.

Great to see though that he was still treated with care and respect by all the staff. When you work for the NHS, being non judgmental is drummed into you from day one. It’s one of the things that makes our NHS so great and the envy of others all over the world.

I hope and pray that our government works hard to preserve this amazing institution.

I did think it was slight ironic that Tom would have been given the drugs that he was probably buying, free on the NHS. Fentanyl, gabapebtin, morphine etc.

Maybe he asked about the other guy/showed some remorse but it wasn't shown or was at a time when the camera wasn't there.

I wonder what sentence he got as well

He hasn't been sentenced yet according to the end of the programme.

He may have been advised not to talk about the victim because of this. He did plead guilty, so hopefully the drug driver is going to use this experience to start afresh. He was extremely lucky the other guy was not seriously hurt.

I am really in awe of the staff on the programme. I'm not somebody who thinks the sun shines out of the bottom of every doctor like society tells you to, but the doctors leading the team and all of the staff work together brilliantly.

Society doesn’t tell us to think every doctor is marvellous. That definitely used to be the case. My parents were very much of the ‘doctor knows best’ mentality but these days things are very different.

Yes it was very lucky Oliver(?) escaped relatively unscathed from the wreckage and no other vehicles were involved.

It’s a really well presented series. It’s our local hospital and so it’s comforting to know that they are so good just in case! Icing on the case was a friend who works there was in the background, 5 seconds of fame
