I missed it when first out and as on Netflix and had got good reviews I thought I'd give it a go.

I've stuck with it so far as it is interesting and gripping in parts but I'm finding loose cannon Carrie increasingly annoying. She'd have been sacked after the first reckless ignoring orders incident but just does it again and again.

Love Saul, but again totally implausible that he didn't know a Mossad operative was shagging his wife. None of them have even the most basic of security monitoring in their homes.

So. On series 3 more to see what happens to Brody and if Carrie gets out of Iran (why on earth send a well known cia operative to the very place Brody is trying to convince them he wants asylum!).

Just wondering does it get better with later series or is it the crying, reckless Carrie show on repeat?

I loved it at first but by season 6 I was so over it! I love Clare Danes, but yes, some stories of her not crying would be good.

Ah right so the plots and characters don't improve. What a shame, high budget show with the locations and cast yet it just keeps resorting to farce. I can suspend belief for dramatic purposes but needs to be a bit plausible.
Started off so well too!

Keep going. The final season is the best in my view and has a great ending.

skippy67 · 06/02/2026 13:09

It does get better! Quinn is a fab character. But Carrie is so very annoying, I agree.

Oh yes I love Quinn I wish he featured more. I was horrified when he was shot in the tailor shop massacre but survived yayy!

Ok thankyou. Even for the silliness it is so watchable with the locations (and Quinn..)

On series 4 now and still enjoying it. I’m totally invested in Carrie, whilst wondering how the hell she’s still got a job. Am also hoping that her and Quinn get it on at some point. Art Malik is in this series too which was a lovely surprise 🔥🥵

Edited

Yes there is something about her, the vulnerability then the determination I just which they're toned it down a bit to make her character more believable. Brody back in the US under total secrecy and she sneaks him to a motel to see his daughter Confused. Love Virgil and the other surveillance guy.
Anyway series 3 finale later then I'll start series 4.

I’m actually rewatching- loved it first time and really enjoying again this time. Quinn is my absolute favourite!

Ilikewinter · 06/02/2026 14:35

We were also late to the party and have not long finished watching it. I agree she's a total nightmare and a loose cannon!
We've now started on Breaking Bad ...... also missed that the first time round!!!

musicalfrog · 06/02/2026 14:47

She might be annoying and break the rules but she GETS SHIT DONE and so I assume that's why she gets away with it.

I quite fancy that as love Brian from Malcolm in the Middle but I've read that's it's very gory and violent so let me know. I can cope with Homeland's level of shootings not the up close and disturbing stuff.

Yes I get that she's a loose cannon but apparently a genius but tbh all the stuff she figured out I've no idea why no one else hadn't.

And why, in Iran where niqabs wouldn't look out of place why didn't she take advantage and wear a full face covering to hide her identity?!

I'm on season 2 and it's brilliant, not too gory so far, have seen worse (thinking Dexter!) Would defo recommend it

@LizzieLemons First 2 or 3 episodes of BB season 1 are the worst - I skipped those but was a brilliant series. Just considering homeland next.

Koulibiak · 27/02/2026 21:59

Worth watching for Timothy Chalamet’s first big role (as Brody’s son). But yes, the show had its pros and cons, some stories are not tight enough. I loved the Quinn and Saul characters - it actually spurred me to watch Mandy Patinkin’s early stuff, and by jove he was a hunk. I also greatly admire Clare Danes as an actress, she is absolutely brilliant.

Piggywaspushed · 27/02/2026 22:01

Ahem. He isn't Brody's son - he's the obnoxious VP's son.

fashionqueen0123 · 27/02/2026 22:04

I loved homeland. I love Clare Danes and so many of the other actors in it. Great programme. A couple of episodes were quite distressing but I liked 99% of them. And when it was on tv you had to wait a whole week to find out what happened!

Liminal1975 · 27/02/2026 22:15

Is it wrong that I fancy Mandy Patinkin?

eurochick · 27/02/2026 22:36

I’ve just finished binge re-watching it. A lot of it is totally implausible, but it is entertainment, not a documentary. It kept the quality up to the end which is some thing not a lot of multi-season programmes manage.

It would be wrong not to

Saul annoys me with his mumbling.

Yes I'm on series 5 now and am finding it definitely watchable, as you say it's a drama not a doc but some of it is silly which detracts and it loses credibility imo.

Quinn horrified by murders they've encountered then going all cold blooded assassin in series 5 blowing people up and shooting at close range was a bit weird. Still, I supposed he was radicalised by the embassy atrocities and doesn't care anymore.

Carrie has toned down the tears and tantrums in this series, will see if it lasts!

Love the locations and the cinematography it's very impressive. Always that sense of dread when you never know who is going to get shot next.

Ive watched the full series twice, once on my own and then when my OH decided it was time.

Id happily do it all again in the next few years. Maybe next winter when the days draw in i'll set back on it.
