Christmas is close, 🎄 we've had minus temperatures for a wee while, and the darker days and sunset by 4pm is with us.

Let Undead Becky continue to bore and annoy us! Let nasty Theo continue to infuriate us! Let the potential child grooming storylines shock us! Let Carl Chuckle Brother continue to shag anything with a pulse! (And hopefully dump Abi!) AND let's get ready for Christmaaaaaaaaaas!!!!!! 🎅❄🎄

Given Maggie's age, and the age of the boys in the flashbacks, Im guessing mid-70s?

Better the Devil you Know by Kylie was playing so it must have been 1990.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2025 21:03

The flash back was playing songs from 1990, which makes Maggie 35 !
Will is being groomed by that woman :(

Oh, I didn't even notice that! So definitely not 70s

AmusedMaker · 08/12/2025 21:08

So where’s her other son?

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2025 21:12

Makes Maggie 30 rather ! Not 35

eggandonion · 08/12/2025 21:18

Other son is in Florida? I hope he doesn't turn up.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2025 21:21

They fall down the stairs a lot on Eastenders and don’t die. This man fell and died !
This Mrs Doyle Maggie woman is annoying isn’t she.

Andepeda · 08/12/2025 21:25

A little bit of Maggie goes a very long way. I'm sick of the sight of her already.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2025 21:29

This family in the Rovers are really full on arn’t they!
Why doesn’t Will take his uniform off at home ?

PenguinIce · 08/12/2025 21:31

So we can expect to see the other son Finlay soon since he is the one who saw what happened.

1reason · 08/12/2025 21:31

That was distinctly underwhelming! Disappointing way to mark 65 years of Corrie.
As previous posters have commented this special 65 years episode could have had Ken and Rita chatting about the past with flashbacks from tne past 65 years. At least Ken and Rita did get some screen time.
We dont really care much at this point for the Driscoll family or their matriarch who is over the top in every way.
Silver lining tonight - no Becky/ Lisa/ Carla tonight!

Becky/Lisa/Carla would have been a welcome relief from the dreadful Maggie.

Lorrymum · 08/12/2025 21:36

That had "filler" written all over it. The writers will probably introduce her other son (yawn) in the New Year.

Shellingbynight · 08/12/2025 21:36

I like that the episode was centred around t’Rovers, and had Rita and Ken talking about age and time. But you would have thought they could have more long timers in there.

Shame the Maggie stuff had to intrude. MILs nowadays can’t just be a bit of a PITA, they have to be toxic coercive and murdering. I did like the use of Maggie May, obviously her name is Maggie but it was an inspired choice as the lyrics fit Will’s storyline.

But yeh... why do we care. But at least we didn't suffer more Swains.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2025 21:45

Ken looks amazing. Tracy looks older now, but then I haven’t watched Corrie for years and just getting back into it. I remember Tracy as a child !

Or Theo and Todd

Empress13 · 08/12/2025 22:14

So you the caricature that is Maggie has not one friend other family member at her 65th only few random street regulars !

Shellingbynight · 08/12/2025 22:15

80s Tracey has not aged well I agree. Neither has Steve for that matter!
I thought Reet looked good tonight. She isn't in it much nowadays.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2025 22:20

Maggie’s clothes look like something from the 80s and not in a good way.
The other women are fairly well groomed and dressed though.
The man chasing the athletics coach lady is hot ! They have better looking men than EE does from what I’ve seen so far. I know it’s a low bar etc.

timetogetlost · 08/12/2025 22:25

Ben was 11 when his dad died. He is only about 40 now isn't he? So it was 30ish years ago. 1995.

And She Drives Me Crazy by Fine Young Cannibals that came out the year before

zanahoria · 08/12/2025 22:44

Maggie is only a few years older than me but feels very old fashioned, more like someone from my mum or nan's generation

Trying to shoehorn this new family into the 65th birthday episode is ridiculous.

We dont know this family. We don't care about them. We're not invested in the characters. Showing flashbacks to try and garner sympathy for Maggie is not going to work.

To mark the 65th birthday episode, they'd have been better to have Ken, who has been there from the very beginning, and Rita, who's been there for a very long time, reminiscing about past residents and incidents on the Street, with little flashback scenes.

100% this. ^ Terrible episode for the 65th anniversary.

Maggie is hugely unlikeable and very irritating, and I don't feel any warmth or compassion for her. The flashbacks were very odd. As has been said, no-one is going to care about a family that's been in it for just a few weeks.

Reminds me of when someone Eileen was dating (a fireman - can't remember his name, but he had been in it for about 2 years, maybe circa 2011-2013.) One day, he brought a female work colleague called 'Toni' to the pub, and she was in about 5 episodes, so less than 2 weeks I think, and then she died in a fire (trying to rescue someone.)

Immediately after, the Corrie viewers were meant to feel sad she was dead, and were expected to mourn her. Dude, we only met her for the first time the Wednesday before last! IIRC, no-one watching Corrie gave a shit about 'Toni.'

I quite enjoyed it tonight 🤷‍♀️
I liked the nods to 65 years, time passing, Florizel St, Tracy and Ken etc.

Remember when Maggie saw something in Ken’s sideboard? I’m guessing it was a picture of Adam & Eva, that’s how Maggie knows there was once something between them.

Also, is Ollie (DeeDee ex) going to hit on Lauren? They are liked by the same men (Joel!), could be push DeeDee has to leave?

MonickerMonica · 09/12/2025 06:46

Maggie's flashback couldn't have been mid 70s as she was married with children then and if she's 65 now so she would have only been 15 ish in the flashback. Yes to pp it was the 90s.
