A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our cumulative list includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance with a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. We are fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, current affairs, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

Waaahhhhhh! I now want my own bgm. Nights In the Sun (Odeal ft Wizkid will do nicely).

I miss it, so am loving the fan videos/memes as well. Love the stuff about Tian Xi Wei as Fan Chang Yu and how she was able to carry her husband about. She is tiny and he is tall, so she must have legs of steel. Seems the actors are also enjoying them. For some like Deng Kai who plays Qi Min / Sui Yuan Huai, so very well, it has been his breakout role and the swift transition to star has led to some uncomfortable scenes with fans. OK, ok, I need to stop but so pleased you are all enjoying it.

I've finished Bloodhounds 2. It's a tough watch, especially ep 6. It's just edge of your seat tension all the way through. Mercifully short, only 7 eps, but there's hint of a season 3 in the ending. I'm not sure if I can take another one, though 😟. I became a fan of the first series after I saw a behind the scenes on Youtube with Woo Do-Hwan and Lee Sang-yi. They were both so adorable and earnest and clearly worked really hard on the training for the roles to look the part, they definitely deserve the success they've had with the show, given the effort they've put in.

Can't remember who talked about The Double c-drama am already at ep 12 and enjoying it. Less light hearted than Pursuit of Jade but I think it is good revenge story. Will then move onto Blossom. Also have started on Heart Signal Season 5, not finished ep 1 yet as it is a long one. Hoping for good things. Not started Perfect Crown as yet, as still not got Disney.

Perfect Crown is the best cleansing antidote to the brutality of Bloodhounds 2. I whizzed thru all available Eps yesterday. The ML, phoar!

I'm watching In your Radiant Season, Disney+ and enjoying it v. much.

I really liked it - had the feel of an older kdrama about it. I gave it a 9!

Is that a straight romance Migs? I don't normally enjoy those as much (although there are a few notable exceptions). I like a bit more stuff going on usually like swordfights or demons. I'm currently watching Heavenly Idol on Prime and Phantom Lawyer on Netflix. They're both pretty daft, tbh, but not unenjoyable.

It's a healing romance? I'm not into rom-coms and this drama has a bit of heft to it.

We’ve just finished Destined for You which was very sweet.it had that K drama thing about starting off light-heartedly and then suddenly a serial killer charges in.
We are now watching Phantom Lawyer which we’re thoroughly enjoying.

Has anyone else started We Are All Trying Here? I tried last weekend and got frustrated with the main character after half an episode and ditched. I’ve just started again and felt I recognised the writer’s sympathy for an unlikeable, flawed character and their humanity. Sure enough, writer-nim Park Hae Young also wrote My Mister and My Liberation Notes. Classy lady. I will now trust her writing and lean in.

I'm leaning more to the light and fluffy atm Boaty, maybe because spring is in the air. I want cheerful nonsense and happy endings. Phantom Lawyer is fun, but not especially fluffy. I want something more romantic to watch alongside it, but I'm not sure what.

Haven’t started yet but it’s on my list. I loved My Mister but found My Liberation Notes a bit pretentious so not sure if I’ll like it.

About to start Filing for Love which looks funny and I love the ML (and 2nd ML).

Also, from Go Youn Jung’s bio I can see a second season of Moving has gone into production. 🙌

Screenwriter Park Hae Young also wrote Another Miss Oh which I rate. That might fit the bill for your springtime romcom @Cobol . It’s so much fluffier than MLN and My Mister.

I've seen Another Miss Oh Boaty and, yes, I did enjoy that one.
I think I need to really like the main female character to enjoy a romance, but beyond that it's a bit random which romances I like.

Perfect Crown on Disney+ is slipping down a treat. IU as the scrappy, ballsy illegitimate chaebol CEO and Byeon Woo Seok as the crown prince. I’m really here for 2ML Steve Noh, as most handsome kdrama Prime Minister in forever. I am almost nostalgic at the level of outlandish Subway and designer fine china PPL. 🤣

I’m losing my touch. I hadn’t clocked the fugly bejewelled Crocs as PPL. I’d pegged them as shorthand for FL’s “I dance to nobody’s tune but my own” spiky individualism.

I love them and seriously considering doing mine up for BTS concert. 😂
