A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our cumulative list includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance with a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. I probably should have picked Pursuit of Jade for my next watch. Instead I'm watching Bloodhounds 2 - mostly from between my fingers with my eyes half shut 🫣 - evil Rain is really scary 😨

I’m so out of the loop at the mo. I’ve been away and didn’t watch any dramas while I was away. I’ve been battling jet lag since I got home and falling asleep every time my bum hits a comfy chair or the sofa. 😄

I’m hearing Pursuit of Jade is top notch IRL as well as here, so that’s at the top of the list.

I also watched the first episode of I Am Sarah earlier in the week. That seems promising. Lee Jun Hyuk is selling it to me, big time, though he’s far too handsome and dapper to make a convincing detective.

I still haven’t finished season 1, also watched through my fingers. The violence is really hard going.

I’m loving the first couple of episodes of Perfect Crown. Just want I needed as I’m been struggling through Something in the Rain which I’m finding very dull.

It's brutal but compelling. My desire to see what happens next overrides my desire not to see anyone get hurt, but only just. You can see the work the actors put into the fight scenes, it's very well done.

I liked Something in the Rain BECAUSE it was so lowkey. It was my 2nd kdrama after I binned off US telly. The absence of dead women/girls in ditches (too much crime drama in my Netflix feed) was a breath of fresh air.

Thanks FedUp! Managed to watch it last night on YouTube but reckon I saw most of it via the clips I was pushed. Hoping Perfect Crown lives up to its billing. I didn't watch Bloodhounds 1, as can't take violence at all. Boaty, if you like pretty / non-accurate historical you couldn't go far wrong with Pursuit of Jade. I am a few episodes into Phantom Lawyer and enjoying it. Yoo Yeon-seok plays dorky very well esp compared to the character in When the Phone Rings. But do keep looking at Kim Kyung-nam and wondering if he has had some work done as his face seems very tight, maybe I should not comment but it strikes me each time he is on screen.

I managed 4 episodes of Pursuit of Jade before I nodded off last night. It’s good. The snow is fake as hell and all the bright fabrics etc seem unlikely for a peasant but the story and leads are engaging. Even DH likes it and was watching with me - this is unusual. 👍

Ha, I just started ep 5 and couldn’t follow it at all. It turns out I fell asleep 10 mins into ep 4. I’m starting over. So much for getting over my jet lag. 😆

Oh Boaty, hope it works for you, my other half put up with sections as well, but as he is Chinese himself, he find the MLs all rather unbelievable ;-)

I rewound the same 5 min scene of ep 15 just now before admitting defeat. It’s addictively watchable. 😄

Climax ended yesterday but there are rumours for a season 2. It's a political melodrama, so won't be for everyone. I'm still trying to work out exactly what points it was trying to make, particularly in how the females are portrayed cf real life.
Given the consequences to SKorea of the war in Iran, will it be mostly females taking the employment and financial hit when/fit they come?
Still considerating my rating.

ohhh Miggs thanks for the tip on Blossom, looks like it could be right up my street. Seen Li Yun Rui in a few things and like his quiet understated acting, so hope this is similar. Also Kong Xue Er (Snow Kong) was in Pursuit of Jade and was v good and belied her seeming perfect/anime looks, so hoping for good things.

Ohhh just been pushed a clip for this, looks a bit mad/funny - Top trainee ParkJiHoon gets reassigned to the kitchen, but a mysterious “Cook’s Path” changes everything. Get ready for #TheLegendofKitchenSoldier, coming to #Viki on May 11. Cast looks good with Yoon Kyung Ho, Lee Sang Yi as well as Cho Ye Rin in her first main role.

It wasn’t a saucy/notable scene. It was a talky plotty one. I just couldn't keep my eyes open.

Pursuit of Jade is eating up all my spare time. I love it.
