Hi Folks,

Can anyone recommend some good shows or films to watch with my 11 year old son? We’ve done The Traitors, Alex Rider, High Potential on Disney and Wednesday. Nothing with overly adult content but he does love a detective show!

Doctor who is a must. You can find the old shows on the BBC player. Blakes Seven is another sci Fi series. Open All Hours and Allo, Allo as well.

Have a browse on U and drama. Whitstable Pearl, The Chelsea Detective just 2 examples.

There’s a bleeped-out version of Taskmaster.

Young Sheldon is a good shout. We’ve been watching Here We Go which is quite good (family sitcom starting Jim Howick and Katherine Parkinson).

DS1 (12) wanted to watch The Day Today but, having really enjoyed it when I was a teenager, I’m rewatching it and it’s not as great as I remember 😵‍💫

The first series of Good Omens is fantastic family viewing. Can be followed up by the film Going Postal which is another great Terry Pratchett one. Mine also loved Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy and the film Hot Fuzz. I am struggling to think of other tv series apart from Dr Who. My sons are both adults now but I think they would have enjoyed Ludwig at your son's age. We also watched a lot of old comedies as others have suggested. One Foot in the Grave was a surprise hit (though I was horrified to realise I am the same age as Victor's wife who seemed so old to me when I first watched it!) Some of the Dickens adaptations might be good too and can pass as educational 😄
