@JaneJeffer yes I realised that, but found it surprising that it had a higher capacity

My Dd (20) has just come home after seeing her boyfriend she sat down and the first thing she said when she saw the crowd was “not a phone in sight people just living in the moment taking it all in what a wonderful time”
It made me teary as I was at Live Aid and it really was a wonderful time

I’m so happy your daughter realises this. Gives me hope for the younger generations who are missing out big time. I went to see a popular artist last year and it was AWFUL. Not him but zero atmosphere. Everyone stood there videoing for “the gram” and no dancing or interaction. Hated hated it.

Lovingmayo · 12/07/2025 23:42

It’s funny about George. Because when you look at early documentaries about wham Andrew was definitely the ones with the looks. But then George grew into his looks and then ended up beautiful

LadyGAgain · 12/07/2025 23:42

Layla. CHOOOOOOOON!!!

Phil had a hectic day

And remarkably unscathed from a transatlantic flight squished in a, at the time, luxury flying tube. 🙂

I was going to post that but wasn't sure if anyone would get it 😂

I got it 👍🏻👍🏻

@MeringueOutang I'm so sorry for your losses, that was me. How devastating for you. I'm really sorry about the flippant comment.

No worries at all, I'm fine now, it was just a very strange year.

Saw Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall many years ago. He’s a great musician, but he might as well have been in a recording studio. No interaction with the crowd whatsoever. Walked on, played a set, walked off. Best bit for me was Carole King on backing vocals, she was amazing.

I totally get previous poster about DD watching this and noticing no phones etc. We in the crowd were very much in the moment, so quiet sometimes because we were listening, not thinking about recording it for You Tube or missing it to take selfies. It really was about the music.

It looks jam packed!

Layla. CHOOOOOOOON!!!

Totally agree. Really fancied Andrew back in the day ( before he had his nose job...). But yes, George became v handsome over time.

HauntedBungalow · 12/07/2025 23:44

@SwedishEdith how funny, but it seems you're not alone - someone wrote a biography of him a few years ago and it seems to have got a fresh load of people paying attention to him (and his face 👀)

Evenstar · 12/07/2025 23:45

There was a little boy on someone’s shoulders in Philadelphia, how strange to think he is a man in his 40’s now

Shortpoet · 12/07/2025 23:45

I miss Concorde. I lived under its flight path. Used to have to stop talking for 2 minutes twice a day as it flew over it was so bloody loud.

Jellykat · 12/07/2025 23:46

This instrumental bit always reminds me of the 'Crossroads' them tune Grin

tobee · 12/07/2025 23:46

American music taste was very different to British taste in those days. Maybe still is. The line up in the US is very white. But is in Wembley too.

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 23:46

I bet all those backing singers had a brilliant time!

My student house in Reading was under the flight path. I remember sometimes being on the phone to my parents and having to stop the conversation until it passed over

HauntedBungalow · 12/07/2025 23:47

Laylas only really good for about 90 seconds and then it just noodles on like this forever.

dapsnotplimsolls · 12/07/2025 23:47

Tedious guitar wanking.

tobee · 12/07/2025 23:47

Goodfellas

MeringueOutang · 12/07/2025 23:47

Phil playing every single instrument over the course of the day. Apparently Led Zeppelin blamed him for their bad set that's been expunged from the visual record of the day.

Whattheduck · 12/07/2025 23:49

There were 72,000 at London and 89,484 at Philadelphia

TheFinePrintess · 12/07/2025 23:49

I’m tired and the 🎸 bit has finished me off!

I remember seeing and hearing it fly over my Nan’s house in Teddington, must of been about 1972. It was fantastic.

Appalonia · 12/07/2025 23:50

Oh wow just saw Phil Collins playing drums for Eric Clapton!
