Task master spoiled? Anyone else not enjoying the new series?

Iambouddicca · 17/06/2025 19:48

Because of the rude American bloke? He is so aggressive and nasty - just seems to not be in the spirit of the show. He’s spoiling it for me which is a pity because I have a soft spot for Matthew Baynton and the others are good this series too. Anyone else find him awful or is it just that I‘m not getting the joke?

Does anyone know where Rosie’s jumper is from, please?

Google Lens turned it up straightaway.

Thank you!

We love this one, DD stopped watching last series but loves this one partly because DH reminds us both of Matthew Baynton!

I wish my DH reminded me of Matthew Blanton!

Another glimpse of Baynton's low hanging fruit in that episode! 😂

I absolutely love this series, maybe my favourite series ever.

Also not reading Jason as angry, just sarcastic/frustrated in a funny way.

I'd never heard of any of these contestants before but they are all great. Very rare to get a season where I genuinely love all of them. I have a soft spot especially for Stevie because when I first saw her I thought she was very young maybe early 20s and then she revealed she is almost exactly my age Grin I think I find her relateable and secretly think I am still 22 as well!

The one I couldn't watch through was the one with Johnny Vegas. Not my sense of humour at all.

zeibesaffron · 28/06/2025 20:26

I think he is brilliant! Really enjoying this series.

Interesting that you didn’t come back, OP.

Anyhow, this series is one of the absolute best in my opinion. Jason can be a bit in your face, but in a really fun way and - importantly - only ever when it’s his turn. He doesn’t talk over people or try to dominate - when it’s someone else’s turn he sits back and enjoys it. He’s joyful. An absolutely wonderful casting.

I wasn’t keen on Fatiha in the first episode after she did F all in the live task, but she’s really, really grown on me. And clearly loving it.

Mat is, obviously, adorable (HH & Ghosts are on repeat in our house). Rosie is a lot of fun. Stevie is brilliantly bonkers - I knew her name before the show but not actually seen any of her stuff. I’ll be seeking her out now.

Such a brilliant cast this series.

I’ve seen the spoilers for series 20 cast and am a bit 😬

I think my second favourite series was the one with Bridget Christie - a lot of people didn't like that one but I adored it.

Lampros · 28/06/2025 22:05

Noooo I love Jason!!! He has said he loves Taskmaster, its all just for show! Mathew Baynton is my favourite though, closely followed by Rosie 😊

paulhollywoodshairgel · 28/06/2025 22:06

I think he’s hilarious! And him and stevie are a fab team..

I did NOT see Nish coming. That was awesome.

Nish is also responsible for one of my favourite lines of Alex's ever, in S5: "He referenced Groundhog Day four times... he accused the ball of being racist twice."

I really enjoyed that series as well.

Greg was clearly a fan of Ardal and let him get away with all sorts. Bridget was hilariously flummoxed for the whole thing. Judy was just on the right side of faux disdainful, and funny with it. Chris was a Duracell bunny (one for the kids) but also funny with it. Not a big fan of Sophie and disappointed she won, but it didn’t hamper my enjoyment.

TM is my background TV quite often. The only series I never revisit is 8.

I am convinced that if you asked "AI" to morph Nish into Jason you'd get David Baddiel at he halfway point.

She's the presenter (with her husband) on one of the UK's top rated / listened to podcasts, and has been for almost 5 years.

It may be possible to overthink it 😀

‘Well, basically it’s a show about humility. So the framework is of the British Empire. That’s the artwork, right? So it’s Edwardian, late Victorian, music hall-type art. And this is the British condition, hubris. And also, the condition of comedians generally is narcissism and hubris. So this is a game that is designed to create humility within those players. But then if you have a Taskmaster, then they’re not going to have humility, so Alex has Greg to humiliate him. And then Greg is the Taskmaster because Greg is a self-humiliating machine – all his jokes about himself, because he’s simply too large to have ever lived a normal life. So it’s this agnostic reminder of humility all the way through the show.’

That's definitely one for Pseuds Corner. Where on earth did it come from?

I think it's sort of onto something about Greg, though. Part of the fun of the show is that the real Taskmaster isn't Greg, it's Alex, and part of what makes that dynamic work is Greg pretending so vigorously to oppress Alex while we all know that it isn't real. And Greg does actually make quite frequent self-deprecating jokes about his size.

Believe it or not, it's Frankie Boyles deep dive (via Reddit).

I thought it might raise some eyebrows 😎

ChandrilanDiscoDroid · 29/06/2025 11:20

My hot take on that would be that that's Frankie fucking with the questioner, tbh.
