Task master spoiled? Anyone else not enjoying the new series?

Because of the rude American bloke? He is so aggressive and nasty - just seems to not be in the spirit of the show. He’s spoiling it for me which is a pity because I have a soft spot for Matthew Baynton and the others are good this series too. Anyone else find him awful or is it just that I‘m not getting the joke?

This is my favourite lineup for ages! I’ve been killing myself laughing, Jason and Stevie are my favourite pair

1984Winston · 17/06/2025 22:30

I love Jason, this is a fantastic line up and Matt's prize task on the last episode was one of my favourite moments ever!

CrackOnThen · 17/06/2025 22:36

I think it’s a great series.

ChandrilanDiscoDroid · 18/06/2025 07:20

Let's face it, Matt's least-dignified yogurt-eating was an instant leap into the TM hall of fame.

he looked very tasty shirtless too

I’m really enjoying this season, after going off it for a while. I really like all of the contestants, both in their teams and individually. I love that JM requested to be on it, he looked like a kid on Christmas morning in the earlier episodes. I also really fancy Matt Baynton.

Yes, like a kid on Christmas morning sums him up really well. Plainly having loads of fun, and in an irrepressible childlike way that spills into rumbustious physicality.

He also riffs really well on the 'I'm an American in this weirdly British weird comedy weirdness'

I didn't know he had asked to be on. Makes perfect sense.

I wonder if Mathew B. is going to have a much wider exposure as a result of this series. I'd only come across him as an actor in Ghosts, where he is great, but this series has revealed how personable and sharp he is. Would love to see him in more roles.

PlasticAcrobat · 18/06/2025 07:46

Oh, and I love that JM is sitting next to Fatiha. He always looks so full of twinkly-eyed roaring laughter at the outrageous thngs she says.

EveryKneeShallBow · 18/06/2025 08:07

I’m loving this series. It’s back to its prime in my opinion.

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 18/06/2025 10:50

He is a bit destructive but it's all part of his shtick.

I am loving this series, all of them have great chemistry and its the chaotic nonesense I need right now! The task in the car had me crying with laughter, funniest task I've ever seen on the show!

McSpoot · 18/06/2025 10:57

Love the series and love Jason.

ImNunTheWiser · 18/06/2025 11:05

Aww, I love that he loves Taskmaster. It’s faux aggression, he’s adorable. Fatiha too, part of her ‘character’, you can tell she’s a sweetheart really. The vast majority of people who appear on the show end up coming across as much nicer, funnier and relatable than you may have previously thought they were, I think. Brings out the best in them. There is only one glaring exception in the whole history of the show. Iain Stirling came across as a nasty, misogynist, piece of work.

I dunno. I think part of the fascination of S8 (which I know isn't many people's favourite, but which I enjoy quite a bit) is Iain's abject horror at seeing himself on screen in the group tasks and his genuine apologies to Lou. You can see him saying 'I'm so sorry' to her in the studio during some of the VTs. As I recall I found an essay somewhere online about it, which I'll try and dig up.

(Also, I never ever watch the mobility scooter task in that series without laughing so hard I can't breathe)

MrsEmmelinePankhurst · 18/06/2025 11:15

To everyone who didn’t know Mat Baynton previously, or only knew him from Ghosts -

OMG women!!! I assume that you’re mums of young children so allow me to introduce you to the absolute JOY of Horrible Histories! Get onto iplayer and start binge-watching immediately! (You don’t need to be a mum to enjoy it 😉). My DCs are 21 and 18 and still love it!!! Mat spends a lot of time sporting a toga (or less!).

Here’s a link to youtube where he plays a Viking. Phwooooaaarr.

He’s also in The Wrong Mans (and has a small part in Gavin & Stacey), and You Me and the Apocalypse. Oh and Yonderland which your kids will also love.

Found it! It's a bit theoretically dense towards the end, but interesting IMO.

Yes yes... MB had me at the point where he was doing a Horrible Histories near- cover of The Smiths ('Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now') about the childhood of Charles Dickens, wafting about with gladioli. So good, so attractive, song parody so spot on, and got me crying laughing.

SerendipityJane · 18/06/2025 11:23

For devotees ...

Always amusing to read the threads before screening, and then during/after.

There really was no love for Fatiha before, innit bruv ?

MB smashed last weeks prize task. The comment "... now when you are watching this, these people don't know what's going to happen like you do ..." just before the reveal added the "+" in 10+

I'm really enjoying this series.. although i like them all to a varying degree even dh who isn't a massive tm fan is watching it again...love Jason ... Am slowly warming to Rosie and Stevie her and Jason together are great... Matthew is giving off slight John Robins vibes who was bit on the smug/uber competitive side for my taste..
But Matthew is an actor so acting it very well...
Iain Stirling was really not nice...

BoredTrish83 · 18/06/2025 11:37

Am I the only one that wants to push him back on the chair when he leans back on 2 legs !

Matt's not competitive at all, he popped his balloons so he finished last on the task because Stevie was upset she was out the task.

Yeah, I mean, if it wasn’t writ large on screen, whilst broadcasting it to the nation, I’m totally sure he would have been absolutely very much the same amount of embarrassed, ‘genuinely’ sorry, horrified etc etc. Not. He is what he is. And now we all know. And the fact that Lou tried to help him out by excusing it with humour, a classic manifestation of female socialisation from someone who definitely sees themselves as a feminist, somehow made it worse. Interesting article, thanks. Doesn’t make him any less of an unpleasant dickhead. And as I said, genuinely can’t think of anyone else who was so exposed by this show. Everyone else seems to have come across as nicer than may have been expected from the ‘character’ they usually show.

TheTwoLeggedGrooveMachine · 19/06/2025 00:50

I went to see episode 1 of this series filmed. Fatiha came across quite badly, she was really aggressive. Jason was a bit weird and out of place. Mat was lovely, I had a massive crush on him by the time we left. Rosie was really mumsy and sweet. Stevie was a bit "rabbit in headlights". So I've really enjoyed watching the series and all of their personalities develop. It's turned out to be one of my favourite series - not the tasks so much, they are a bit rubbish, but the contestants are great. Fatiha has let her guard down and is hilarious, especially her flirting with Greg. Jason is playing a part but with a big fuck off grin on his face. Mat is still lovely, and brilliant. Rosie is still a bit mumsy but getting on with it. Stevie is brilliant, but also still a bit "what the fuck am I doing here!".

Stellaris22 · 19/06/2025 05:37

As much as I love Task Master it is a bit tired. I’ve discovered Game Changer and Make Some Noise on Dropout TV and it’s similar (Alex Horne has given a guest challenge) and if you like TM you’ll like that too.

whynotmereally · 19/06/2025 06:37

Genuinely don’t see him as nasty, just sarcastic. I like Rosie as I’m a big fan of the podcast she does. I like Fatima too she’s so funny as is Mathew. It’s a good series, not as good as the earlier series but still good.

Fofftwenty21 · 20/06/2025 11:02

I think this season is the best in a long time. Their chemistry is great between all the contestants and the tasks are really good.

user1471556818 · 22/06/2025 18:36

It's my favourite series for ages .
Have grown to like all the contestants quite quickly .Really like how much Jason is enjoying himself and he's obviously watched the show a lot .Still want Mathew to win though. That yogart scene is TM gold .

Yasty · 26/06/2025 21:22

Does anyone know where Rosie’s jumper is from, please?

Task master spoiled? Anyone else not enjoying the new series?
