Is anyone watching this - I watched the first series this weekend, absolutely loved it Likeable, relatable, even shed a few tears. Its about a social worker in Norway, managing her own teens , new lover, father who has just come out as gay, grieving her sister who recently passed away and looking after her sisters son. Such a great drama, think there are 5 series on Netflix as well

Someone mentioned Rita, but I’ll second it. It’s brilliant. Danish , on Netflix

Channel 4 has quite a few Danish programmes

I loved Seaside Hotel (really gentle drama and has about 6-7 series)
Rita was great
Bonus family

There was one called Ride the storm which I don't think is on Channel 4 anymore but was outstanding.

I also enjoyed the Norwegian drama State of Happiness

But ..... Pernille was something else! Hope there's another series at some point

Rita is next on my list after Pørni (apologies if I’ve spelled that wrong - I can see why they called it Pernilla in the English speaking world 😂)

It’s not a scandi drama obviously, but I think Pernilla/ Pørni shares quite a lot with Bad Sisters ( the Apple TV Irish version) in feel and the way it’s scripted. It’s also great at relatable female characters, in that you come away feeling like you care a bit for the main players. Will strike a chord with middle aged women and late teenage girls in particular (in my experience) . If you haven’t seen Bad Sisters, go and watch both series right now, and thank me later ;)

I'm fairly new to it - binged to middle of series 3 and loving it but the humour has tailed off and it's a bit dark atm so only couple of episodes at a time now. That 1st episode with the woman naked from the waist down - gosh, that cracked me up!! I'm choking up a bit too often in series 3 but still totally loving it iykwim! I'm fine with the dubbing but have subtitles on as an extra.

I’m almost finished and I’m loving it. I think she’s actually a wonderful mother - she intervenes when she feels she has to but otherwise she trusts that her girls will do ok, and they generally do.

I loved it. Very sad in the penultimate episode and I was rather dubious about her love interest, he seemed very flakey and had too many second chances.

But he always loved her and I think their circumstances got in the way . She was such a warm character

I know really. I loved the last episode but all the way through I kept wanting her to tell him to get lost.

Just watched the last 2 episodes and I blubbed at the sad bits and blubbed at the happy bits. I just blubbed. She's an amazing actress and her face shows every emotion - be hopeless at poker! I think he could have been a bit more macho (is that still a word?) as she did seem to be attracted to pathetic men - I can't see him looking after her emotionally despite all the hugging but still glad it worked out. It would be lovely to get another series but I suppose it's reached a natural end. I have loved it!

Absolutely loving this. On series 5 and an going to be bereft when I finish it. I cry at some point during every episode.

I recommended this to a friend a couple of months ago because I enjoyed it so much. Very likeable.

Loopytiles · 31/08/2025 23:23

Thank you for the recommendations!

For anyone looking for a good Norwegian drama I really recommend State of Happiness, which is on player, and starts in the 1960s when oil was discovered in the North Sea. I’ve watched the first two seasons (there are 3) and they are really good.

Also a fan, & I watch with DP so I think it appeals to men as well as women. We also watched Rita, Bonus Family, State of Happiness, Ride Along the Storm & most recently Seaside Hotel (Walter Presents series)
