Oooh, yes, are you of an age to have fallen for him in St. Elmo's Fire?! Lone Star is on my to watch list!

Not quite, I am 45 so I think that was maybe early/mid 80s? I cant actually remember what I saw him in first but hes beautiful 😍

I’m rewatching it for the third time as it’s such a great show. Did you realise that House is based on Sherlock Holmes and Wilson is based on Sherlock’s sidekick Doctor Watson? The mystery solving/drug addiction themes are part of both stories.

Mind blown. That makes so much sense. Thank you.

I am nearly finished, I'm really sad about it!! Could have watched it forever, will convince DH to watch so I can watch again 🥰

Ah poor you. You got through that fast! I'm rewatching atm as well but only an episode a night any only if I'm in

Think it's time for you to start the Night Manager then...

I loved the behind the scenes episode, lovely hearing his English accent!

Yes I loved that one too, right at the end. What a ball they all had! And what an enourmous crew. Great to see them all get their dues.

He’s fabulous in Sense and Sensibility if you want a film fix.

I love dark honour. I love offensive humour even more.
House....I found insufferable. He was self indulgently offensive, utterly unnatractive and spiteful. And I am absolutely giving the benefit of the doubt here, too.

Formulaic writing - conflict, stab-at-a guess- resolution, which ten becomes more complicated and urgent, leading to a very tacked together quick-switch counter resolution.

Almost cringe, tbh.
Every female character pathetically, doe-eyed, overlooking the immaturity and spitefulness of the shining boy. It's all a bit embarrassing really. And even the writing can't save it, just prime time, pleb class dross.

Sure Hugh made a killing out of doing very little during this project.

And a house is a home. Hence the name

VeriteAmmalie · 04/06/2025 04:36

Professional women with perpetually open cleavage, repeatedly referred to as 'whores. So funny, lol lol lol.
(yawn)
But if it's Hugh Laurie and his exceptionally phenomenal philtrum, that's ok.

Each and every episode followed the same, predictable script with only slight variations.

This isn't what I'd call black comedy. It's just another boy's own pilgrimage into self importance and re-asserting the professional pecking order, as the awe struck female professionals keep the arrogant male characters sweet.

It's quite grotesque tbh.
Only decent episodes had someone punch the guy in the face. How he managed to avoid that for so long beggars belief. Talk about enabling an asshole.
Glad this shit is past it's best.

HurlyWhurly · 06/07/2025 11:03

The link between House/Wilson and Holmes/Watson has just fallen into place for me. Thank you.

Ever noticed what number House lives at? ... 221

Whenever they have a scene at his front door, the number sign resonates with me. Now I know why it has been bugging me!

Doubleraspberry · 06/07/2025 11:46

There’s loads. I think his musicianship is a nod to Holmes’ violin for example.

Midnight train to Georgia 😀

I'm rewatching the series right now, loved it first time round and enjoying it now, despite it being formulaic.

Imo House has one of the best endings in any series I've ever seen. Very satisfying.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 07/07/2025 17:39

I'm doing a re-watch at the moment - drawbacks are that every time I get asked about my differential diagnosis on a clinical basis at work I can't help but think about whiteboards, snark and blowing up MRI machines (thankfully my access to MRI machines is none existent and I'm rarely allowed whiteboard privileges).

Plus re-watching it now I've worked with people with so many of the really obscure syndromes they mention as possibilities which makes for a great game of House Bingo.

Never found Hugh hot... Wilson though - I so would have.

Ha I work in a medical adjacent field (didn't when I first watched it) and I do the same. Every time someone mentions a differential I want to get the board out.

I also work with a Wilson clone, minus the multiple divorces, but looks and personality. I'm a House girl though 😂

SerendipityJane · 07/07/2025 18:02

There was a funny send-up of House by a tech writer, using the style around an IT scene. There was a running gag about having an MRI scanner in every room.

Personally, it jumped the shark a little bit early for me ... when all the junior docs were expected to slug it out ("13" anybody ?). But I did like his attitude. And there was a brilliant scene very early on with a dumbo anti-vaxxer. (This probably isn't the time or place 😀)

Allywill · 08/07/2025 10:43

after watching house and both myself and daughters equally expressing how attractive House was - I did ponder why and if the character would be attractive to men if the sex was reversed (disabled, addicted, arrogant angry female?). I suspect not.

Tillow4ever · 08/07/2025 12:04

It’s a great show isn’t it? My sons are older now so we’ve been rewatching old series that we think they’d enjoy - this was one of the first we watched with them. We now enjoy playing “House” if anyone’s ill. Someone will ask if it could be Lupus. One will pretend to hobble on a stick and then say no it’s obviously …. And then make up something completely random and medical sounding. All very silly but actually always gives us a giggle and when a hearing test person found a lump in my ear that the drs then fast tracked for checking (it was all fine luckily) I could see the kids looked worried, but as soon as we started to do a differential diagnosis on it, and I made sure all the non scary things it could be were thought of, it made them (and me) feel a lot better.

So glad I found this thread! Am so very late to the party only discovering House a few months ago, but my HL is hot! And I'm partial to a lil Wilson too! Only on s4 at mo so plugging my way through and living for the one episode where it is lupus!
