How on earth did I miss this programme for so long! I absolutely love it and how on earth is Hugh Laurie so hot in it, what is that app about?!!

I am on S7 currently, have basically binged watched. I must be the only person left to watch this haha!

What am I going to watch after this?!

I've never seen it before either but I'm further behind than you...
That said, I started watching it with DH but then watched multiple episodes without him. Turns out of you pick episodes carefully he doesn't really notice

I’ve been in love with Hugh Laurie since 1989 so found it very disconcerting when everyone else noticed him. I’m used to it now.

Do let us know when you’re finished and have found something to match it - try as I might, nothing comes close. I was late to the party as well and only watched and finished it recently. For a series as long as this - I was very pleasantly surprised at the ending which was very well done. Unlike other “big” programmes. And yes, Breaking Bad with your stupid ending, I’m referring to you

You might enjoy Elementary. Similar vibe but different subject, it's a modern Sherlock Holmes adaptation with Jonny Lee Millar, set in NYC. I really liked it and love House. And i love Sherlock Holmes which probably does help 😂

I’m rewatching it for the third time as it’s such a great show. Did you realise that House is based on Sherlock Holmes and Wilson is based on Sherlock’s sidekick Doctor Watson? The mystery solving/drug addiction themes are part of both stories.

I didnt but I love all the various Sherlock Holmes series also!

Elementary is my favourite of all the SH series, JLM is fantastic!

I agree with all those mentioning how men being multi talented makes them attractive, singing/dancing/musical is definitely something that I find attractive, but clearly alongside the bad boy personality 😂

House is great, it was the last thing I binged, another one late to the party! Also love all things Sherlock Holmes, especially Elementary/JLM. I'm currently binging 9-1-1, absolutely love it and it has me in tears constantly!

OK thanks ! Will take a little look at that

And row - he rowed for Cambridge in the boat race!

And the ability to break into random languages in House. Although I like to think he’s capable of just everything, and I’m ignoring the fact that he’s possibly not as multi lingual as I dream. Just glorious tho. My favourite piano bit was him doing the intro to I Don’t Like Mondays with a patient. Argh. We ❤️ HL.

I cried many times in 911, I'm not quite up to date but I love it. Great series. I have watched 911 Lone Star also, I'm also in love with Rob Lowe.

Singing/dancing/diagnostic medicine/deductive reasoning 😂(Me too)

I've literally never known anyone else to watch it, I think it's criminally overlooked. Only came across it in some random Guardian review but loved it, and love how many eps there are. Agree re JLM. I think his interpretation of the spirit of the original Sherlock is fantastic. Plus he has really, really, nice arms.

FrodoBiggins · 13/05/2025 01:45

Important question though, did you all fancy HL in the Night Manager? I did I'm afraid even though he was pure evil.

I first got a crush on him during Fry and Laurie, and managed to sustain it through Jeeves and Wooster. Hard core.

I just assumed it was really popular, I might have to have a rewatch!

This is on my list to watch, I am sure that will just make him more attractive. My character/celeb crushes tend to be the bad boys for sure, in RL maybe similar for a crush but not for a proper relationship (anymore)😂

HL notwithstanding, The Night Manager is excellent in its own right.

CatOnAHotRadiator · 13/05/2025 09:54

The Night Manager is sublime TV. And yes, HL was hot in that. 🤣

Isometimeswonder · 13/05/2025 10:22

Allegedly, when HL auditioned, they didn't know he was British!

MoistVonL · 13/05/2025 10:26

DS1 has recently discovered it so I’m often seeing an episode here and there (again). It’s so much misanthropic fun

He made me laugh throughout that, as I didn’t buy him for a villain at all. He kept looking at Elizabeth Debicki’s character in an avuncular, kindly way as if he was afraid she’d catch a cold. Same as Jamie Dornan in the Fifty Shades films — I can’t buy someone as a flinty sadistic CEO or whatever he was playing when he looks exactly like the kind of guy who’s close to his mammy, a doting dad and does the Guardian Simplex.

Me too - those eyes, and anyone who can play the piano like that....

Missed House when it first came out, but had the box set a few years after it finished and loved it. Just started re-watching on Netflix, and I am thoroughly enjoying him it all over again.

He has definitely aged well.

AllyDally · 13/05/2025 13:42

I love the bits in House where he's playing the piano 😍

Oooh, yes, are you of an age to have fallen for him in St. Elmo's Fire?! Lone Star is on my to watch list!
