Anyone watching this? Im
a nurse and I am shocked by how badly managed it seems to be. The way the doctor has just spoken to a patient who’s been waiting three days is appalling!

Where is it filmed?

Wishywashylaundry · 28/04/2025 21:45

It's appalling isn't it. No business would be run like this and expect success. The NHS is poorly managed in every sense.

purpleme12 · 28/04/2025 21:50

I've only watched the first episode so far

But will catch up

Justwingingit2005 · 28/04/2025 21:51

I caught it was channel surfing.
Was shocked how bad the waits are and people are waiting in pain.

springissprung2025 · 28/04/2025 22:17

I could only find 999 the critical list on ch 4. Is this what you mean?

purpleme12 · 28/04/2025 22:18

I think that's what she means

I completely disagree. The staff are doing their utmost to manage a permanently shifting theatre list in challenging circumstances. The doctor explained the situation - how would you have handled it?

FixTheBone · 28/04/2025 22:26

This is what happens in an under-resourced system.

Daily I face the issue of which 2 out 3 equally urgent patients i put into the two slots I have.

Some days I feel like tossing a coin, it would make about as much sense as any other way of deciding.

Yes that’s it. I work in a much bigger hospital and theatre lists are not managed as haphazardly as that. Not having a bed for a patient in recovery to go back too, also doesn’t happen!

@Soontobe60 I thought he was was too defensive, going on about how long they’d been there, how hard they’ve worked. The patient knows that, she doesn’t want to hear it. Especially when they’ve been in agony for three days.

I've seen this! I'm a Nurse too, and it made me super emotional.. The poor guy that needed a stoma! Episode 2 will be out soon apparently! I'm keeping my eye out! I've seen a clip of a lady being dragged back and forth to A&E over the course of 2-3 Days! :( :(

purpleme12 · 28/04/2025 22:45

Episode 2 has been on today

It’s emergency surgery not regular lists and, as you say, you work in a much bigger hospital so will have more doctors and more theatres. I also think the doctors are handling the patients very well but I thought the one telling Julie her op wouldn’t happen sounded close to tears.

MorrisZapp · 28/04/2025 22:54

How does it work for nil by mouth? The hardest part of my elective surgery was being starving. If they put you on the list for the next day can you eat?

I said to my husband that the surgeon sounded like he was going to cry, I felt so sorry for poor Julie!

Yes. As soon as they say you are cancelled.

I’ve been in this situation. It would get to a certain time of day, maybe 4 ish and I would have to ask if I was going to theatre or could I start drinking again.

MotherJessAndKittens · 29/04/2025 13:19

I have to say that I find it a bit messy and I am a nurse. I know it's emergency surgery though so waits happen. It must be horrible telling someone who has been waiting that your op will not be happening that day.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/04/2025 13:30

I was hoping the parents of the girl with Rett syndrome didn’t watch as I would find the way the theatre coordinator discussed her case quite upsetting.

So sad about David and Julie 😞

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2025 13:06

Yes, I did find showing Julie in such distress very intrusive. I think I’m going to have to stop watching this programme, it’s just winding me up! The way they are managing the lists just doesn’t seem quite right to me. The priorities are off. But not sure how much that is the way it’s filmed. But I hope I never ever end up in that hospital!

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2025 13:08

Couldn’t see why Julie did t go on to a standard list. It was urgent, but not emergency list urgent.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2025 13:09

David likewise, but I suspect they’d say on him until he was so unwell he was needing inotrops. It couldn’t have been a massive surprise that he would need an amputation.

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 06/05/2025 15:55

I more meant it was really sad how David died a few months after filming and Julie died this year 😞
