I just put this one and the first episode seems so boring and slow… anyone else started it yet?

I'll be watching it tonight, so excited!

cherrycherriess · 24/04/2025 13:10

It’s got better now, was a little slow to begin with!!

I don't usually look for plot holes but I need to know how he got his son back so quickly from the gay couple who presumably thought Joe was dead and how did little Henry feel about being torn from the only parents he has ever known?

This is in the first 5 minutes, so not a spoiler.

Rantypanties · 24/04/2025 22:32

I thought it was great, I can overlook the plot holes and a few ‘wtf’s for what was generally a good series!

cherrycherriess · 25/04/2025 12:03

What is everyone thinking so far?

OP posts:
Doingtheboxerbeat · 25/04/2025 12:51

I may have jumped the gun with my earlier comment about Henry because I didn't know how much time had passed and the taking him away from the couple was addressed eventually by Kate.

I felt like this series had jumped the shark spectacularly and I couldn't keep up with Brontës flip flopping all over the place.

cherrycherriess · 25/04/2025 21:48

I really didn’t enjoy it.

cherrycherriess · 25/04/2025 21:48

I really didn’t enjoy it.

Me neither, it was just ridiculous. I was slightly slightly annoyed that Candice was completely erased from history even though I know it was Love killed her, but he tried first.

Member984815 · 26/04/2025 18:44

I find bronte so annoying, only on 3rd episode

Kate3150 · 28/04/2025 09:46

Can someone answer this question for me
please.
My memory is a bit sketchy, but in season three when he handed over baby Henry and “vanished” wasn’t that because he didn’t want to be caught because of all that happened with Love?
Now just watching season 5 and the first episode, he’s become a minor celebrity because of Kate and his face and name are all over magazines, etc.
What have I missed?!?

Lentilweaver · 28/04/2025 09:49

I hate myself for watching this. It's such utter nonsense. The twins theme is like a bad sitcom, as even Joe says! And the script is like bad porn. Why does Joe always fall for such terrible writers? Bronte is sooo annoying.

AnnaBalfour · 28/04/2025 10:27

Brontë is insufferable

Also ridiculous lines between him and his partner such as “ for 3 years you’ve been GOOD!” as if talking to a child.

Lentilweaver · 28/04/2025 10:31

I think Penn Badgeley manages to keep it going with his sheer hotness and his fabulous voice, but even his hotness is waning with having to read out the cringy porn.

LizzyKate · 29/04/2025 06:48

Just finished and it was awful. Bronte was the least likeable/believable of all his love interests through the series, and the ending was pathetic. I wanted to see Jenna Ortega back for the end - her relationship with Joe was such a contrast compared to all of his repetitive love interests - and I didn't really care about the characters who did return.
The first two series were great viewing, and I think it would've been better to end at season three. The quality has lapsed further with each subsequent season, but I was still hoping for a better ending than this!

Invisablepanic · 29/04/2025 13:56

This was probably the worst season. I'm happy they decided to end at 5 but the last two seasons have been way below the first 3 (I'm one of the few that liked 3!).

I never felt like Joe had much chemistry with anyone other than Beck or Love. Brontë has probably been my least favourite, although Marianne felt less authentic. The actress who plays Kate is really good but I never felt like her character would have been into Joe.

Spoiler::

I always thought it would (and should) end with Joe incarcerated but I'm disappointed that it was Brontë who put him there. I actually would rather have had less of what actually happened in S5 and an episode or two of a trial.

And how the hell did Kate survive being shot, whacked on the head and imprisoned in a basement below all that accelerant and kindling?

Lentilweaver · 29/04/2025 23:18

I finished it too. What a mess.
Are Bronte and Kate made of Teflon? They had more lives than 9 cats.

I binge watched it at the weekend.

My memory isn't great these days,so I can barely remember anything from the earlier seasons, so I just watched it and enjoyed it for what it was, plot holes and all. I found it fun

LeopardsANeutral · 30/04/2025 14:07

I finished it last night and like others have said, I’d have loved to see Jenna Ortega come back and also an episode dedicated to the trial. I sort of wanted him to go free and it to end on one more “Hello You”. Not sure what that says about me though!

Nevergonnamoveagain · 08/05/2025 23:40

I really liked it!
Season 4 was by far the worst and almost put me off entirely, I contemplated not bothering with season 5 but im glad I did.
Bronte was definitely not believable as a love interest though and I wanted Joe to kill her at points as she was so annoying.
I remember reading interviews where Penn Badgley and the writers said that they hated that fans of the show would put Joe on a pedestal and talk about how they wanted him to stalk them so I understood when they made him spiral this season and showed the full internal dialogue and how vile he really was.
I think they went a little hard with romance stuff. I mean we get it..a stalker should not be romanticised! They didnt need to make the whole season abiht that though.
The twin storyline could've been done better I agree but all in all Im so glad they came back to where it started in New York and Beck.
Can't beat season 1 or 2 but its definitely worth a watch. I think they wrapped it up quite nicely.

FanofLeaves · 09/05/2025 00:16

I thought the ending was fair, but then Brontë surviving being shot, strangled, slammed and then drowned was a bit of a stretch. Nice that Kate only got scars on her arms from the fire and not her lovely face 🤣

season 4 was abysmal and his look in it really put me off, more than any dastardly acts he carried out 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣all that scrubby hair and beard and sinewy arms. I’m glad he looked more like himself in this one at least.

Disturbia81 · 09/05/2025 16:09

I loved it and loved how the women sum up what he is like at the end, and take their power back.

It’s easy to see why women fall for him, he’s a deep romantic, poetic, seems good at sex, fun, jovial, easy going, great with people.. if only he didn’t kill people 😂

imsosotired · 09/05/2025 21:03

I really enjoyed it. I know parts were far fetched, but that’s the fun of it.

FrothyCothy · 13/05/2025 23:16

I feel like I’ve been hate-watching this series ever since the second one but DH and I both have a nagging need to never leave a series unfinished. It’s so bad that it’s even making me hate Alison-from-Ghosts - I may need to go back and watch that as a palate cleanser once we’re done with this dross 😆

beautyqueeen · 19/05/2025 12:28

I liked it, so much better than s4 and even s3, back to where it all began!

Brontë was the worst character, annoying and unbelievable, was it done on purpose to show how Joe had really unravelled, his portral towards the end of this series showed him as the monster not the misunderstood romantic white knight. It always had to end this way, Penn and the writers have spoke lots about he’s not an idol, he had to get his competence and as the women at the end summed up he got a fate, to him, worse than death, being alone.
