What should we watch next?

We aren’t massive TV watchers and can’t often find a film we would both enjoy (in fact in five years I think the only film we have watched together is Monty Python’s Holy Grail). Last year we started watching The Big Bang Theory and we saw the last episode last weekend- now we’re struggling to think of something else.

Don’t mind American or British, we have mentioned going back to Blackadder or Friends (but I recently saw all the Friends with my dc). Don’t like the office (too cringey). Don’t fancy Young Sheldon. I’m open to things along the lines of Silent Witness, detective type things; he likes funny or factual. Series better than films so the commitment level is less!

Hit me up with your best suggestions please!

'Malcolm in the Middle' is great - very funny, great characters and interesting. Often, at the end of a less-than-half-hour episode, I wonder how they packed so much into it.

AlertCat · 29/03/2025 09:14

Thank you, I’ll put these to OH. We went to the first series of Blackadder last night (1983!!!) and it was still funny.

Dark

I absolutely second this. IMO it's the best show since Breaking Bad, and easily the best detective/mystery show I've ever seen.

If you decide to watch:

-Watch in German with subtitles (the dubbing is awful!)

-Avoid spoilers, don't Google anything

-Don't feel bad for not understanding the plot right away - it's extremely complicated! The first few episodes are slow and exposition heavy. It will make sense eventually though, and the ending is terrific.

Yes absolutely watch in German with subtitles, and when you have finished the last season go back and watch it again . It all makes sense in the end , I actually had to watch with a pen and paper taking notes .

Am presuming you have BBC iplayer, ITVX,the Channel 4 and 5 apps. Do you also have U, the free drama channel via app?
Stream U&Drama on U | Watch Crime, Period & Classic Shows

Do you have any of the paid streaming platforms @AlertCat or is it pointless suggesting anything on Netflix, Apple, Prime, Disney, Sky etc.?

Is this the Dark people are recommending?

Shetland, a couple of episodes per crime case on BBC iPlayer. Easy to watch, good stories and several seasons to wade through, set in Shetland obviously.
