A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our list is cumulative & includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. This tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. We are fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, current affairs, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

Oh and forgot Dali and the cocky prince! Very funny at times.

It was the writing that blew me away in CLOY - the most cleverly written script.

I agree. I was a bit disappointed with Park Ji Eun’s most recent drama, Queen of Tears. Stellar cast, sets, acting etc. and there were some v funny scenes - Aunt Bom Ja forgetting to take off her microphone and the spoilt son asking for water from Switzerland - but as a whole it didn’t grab me.
(It was aptly named though - everyone was sobbing all the time).

I don't know how they've managed to do it, but Tempest (Disney+) has the hottest romantic chemistry going on for a political thriller.

Hello all. DH and I finished Beyond the Bar but since then he has only wanted to watch Singles Inferno because we couldn't agree on a drama. Now we are locked into MAFSUK and then Celeb Traitors starts next week so I don't think we will be watching much kdrama together. On my own I finished Head Over Heels, Imitation, Dear Hongrang and watched that film about the girl with curly hair (don't remember the name). I'm currently watching A Time Called You. I haven't particularly loved any of them. I also need to go back to Fireworks of my Heart on viki but I don't seem to have much time for anything more than 1 episode these days so I'm making slow progress

I just spotted that Rowoon's latest drama has started airing on Disney+. It's a really different role for him so should be interesting. I assume it'll be the last show we'll see him in for a while with him enlisting next month 😢

Strictly speaking an oppa should be older than the person nominating them. I don’t think that’s true for most some of us. 😆 Oppa for advent purposes is a Korean actor with classic good looks, popular with the ladies and has keen nominators. FedUp’s alt oppas are not classically good looking actors but guys with charisma or niche appeal. Sometimes very niche (cough Saram cough). 😉

This has always been a bit of a problem, with different people watching different things at different times, but this is a discussion forum, after all. Just give those of us still planning to watch a heads up with a <spoiler alert> and it should be fine. I've often had to avoid the thread for a few days when other posters have been discussing something I'm still watching, but I think that's fair enough. Or sometimes people move a discussion over to PMs. Having said all that, though, I haven't been watching Bon Appetit... so I can't help you with that particular one, I'm afraid 😌

It just felt a bit lazy especially with the ‘How did he find her? It’s a secret!’ And the floaty bit was very silly. Still, a good outcome for her because, quite frankly, who would choose to live in the Joseon times?
