A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our list is cumulative & includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. This tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. We are fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, current affairs, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

Are HR departments not a thing in Korea? Just imaging FL in MDN posting on here … So, I started a relationship with my boss and his grandmother, who owns the company, found out and had me demoted from Team Leader to the janitorial team. Should I raise it with HR?

Equally with Misaeng: Incomplete Life - the way they are treated by their superiors is appalling and everyone just seems to accept it.

As an aside, one thing I find interesting is how much paper they use (admittedly it was filmed 12 years ago or whatever) but they seem to spend their days printing, photocopying and shredding. When they aren’t getting kicks in the shins by their boss.

Although I was disappointed by When the Stars Gossip, watching all their shenanigans in space and zero gravity has meant I’ve read about the stranded NASA astronauts with more interest than I would normally have done.
If WTSG is correct, then the recently rescued astronauts will have serious problems with wasted muscles.

Have experience of work life in China and it is not great. Not sure about Korea but China has a very hierarchical structure and the '996' culture is still in play. Changes are discussed but still those lower in the pecking order or suppliers get treated badly. Cobol on the respect for literature etc, I see this in BTS, RM is well-regarded for his cultural knowledge and love of art and Suga link up with Ryuichi Sakamoto, wasn't just some PR exercise, it seemed very genuine.

Potato Lab continues to delight and amuse me. The accountancy montage just before the end credits was fun. Kang Tae Oh is an excellent sport.

I think it's my favourite of the current ones (of which I'm watching quite a few).

Is anyone here watching Buried Hearts? The ep 10 cliffhanger was 😱 Does it mean what I think it means? At least half, yes? (Being deliberately vague.)

I am but only on episode 6 so a bit behind you! Did see a spoiler on Instagram that I didn't swipe past quick enough so I might know what you're referring to! 🤫

I won’t say anything else until others have caught up. Suffice it to say, it was the most shocking plot twist I’ve seen in a kdrama. Genuinely brave screenwriting. 😬

I was laughing because amnesia is a big plot point and I'm re-watching CLOY with DD and chuckled when the North Korean guy who loves k-dramas was explaining to the others that a lot of South Koreans suffer from amnesia!

As you can see form my user name I’m a Squid Game fan, but have just recently started my first proper K-drama (I don’t think SG counts, does it?) - Crash Landing on You, which I’m really enjoying - I’ve never watched anything like it but it’s so enjoyable.

I’m also reading some Korean stuff as well - Welcome to the Huyang Dong Bookshop was my first, which I quite enjoyed, and I’ve recently finished Pachinko, which I loved (I realise it’s not actually Korean), and am now reading Korea: A New History of Noeth and South.

My interest in all things Korean was sparked by getting into Stray Kids while driving DD to school last term, so it’s quite recent!

Anyway, I thought I’d say hi and am looking forward to carrying on with CLOY and trying some of the others you’re recommending!
