A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our list is cumulative & includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. This tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. View the categories below as best approximate & ask if you need guidance about suitability for younger viewers.

We are fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, current affairs, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

This time next week, DD and I will be at Blackpink at Wembley! Now, is it true that there are never support acts at K-pop concerts? Doors open at 5 - what time do you think we should go and what time are they likely to come on? I’m all for soaking up the atmosphere but not sure if I want to be sitting there for 3 hours waiting for them to come on!!

That’s right, no support. Doors opened at 5 for Stray Kids and they were scheduled to come on at about 7.30, which they did, pretty much - but I’m glad we got there early because the queues for everything - to get in, for the loo, for water, for merch, were really long. Wembley I think is more streamlined to enter than Spurs but I would still aim to get there at least an hour before they’re due to come on.

MigsandTiggs · 08/08/2025 22:53

Beyond the Bar has a cracker of an opening episode and ep2 is even better. After all the 2025 shows that started well then faded, the second half of the year is balancing the books for me!

Disclaimer. I've liked the ML, Lee Jin-wook since Bulgasal and find the FL a refreshing change from the usual suspects.

boatyardblues · 08/08/2025 23:27

I’ve watched the first 2 episodes too Miggs and agree it’s got off to a good start.

I first saw Lee Jin-Wook in a 2012 drama, I Need Romance 2, playing ML to Jung Yu Mi’s FL. There was a surprising amount of (mostly implied/cut away) creative FWB-type shagging in it, especially for such an old Korean network drama. They made a good couple. It’s old but worth a watch.

I'm seeing Jin at the Odeon on Sunday as just couldn't justify another concert this year. We have already seen Ateez, The Rose and Stray Kids and have Blackpink next week plus there were a couple other non kpop artists too. (& eagerly awaiting BTS/JK) There weren't any opening acts at any of the kpop shows. They are lots of fun with great atmosphere. DDs and I have started on making bracelets as freebies for next week

mrsfeatherbottom · 09/08/2025 09:51

@peanutcookie - that's a fab year for concerts! Are you going on Friday or Saturday? We're heading to Hobbycraft today to get supplies - we might make shrink plastic keyrings!

Will give Beyond the Bar a go. I only know the ML from My Dear Hyeri and FL from Family by Choice. Presume there's no romance with that age gap ...?

Think it’s a possibility MrsF.

Really? 16 year age gap between the actors.

🤷‍♀️ Reckon so. What do other noonas think?

MigsandTiggs · 09/08/2025 11:49

It would be so good to see a drama where age gap is less important than likemindedness and fit... but I think it might be a mentor/mentee relationship in the end. He's a better choice than the eugenicist dickhead x-boyfriend.😡

boatyardblues · 09/08/2025 15:12

Yep. I’m glad she’s given him short shrift. The roasting she gave him at the blind date was gratifying.

OP posts:
FedUpWithBriiiiick · 09/08/2025 16:56

I don’t think there is a big of an age gap in the show than IRL? Maybe 10 years? We will see - might be more of a My Mister relationship than a romance. Good chemistry though!!

mrsfeatherbottom · 09/08/2025 17:23

A great edit for those of you who watched both Trauma Code and Head Over Heels ....

Fab yes but sooo expensive! I wasn't planning on seeing them but the girls wanted to. I'm quite excited now but trying to hold myself back from buying any merch. We are going on Saturday. You?

peanutcookie · 10/08/2025 08:50

The ones we have made so far. We are very slow lol. Your keyrings sound great, do post photos!

We're going on Friday night. Changed our minds about the keyrings and ditched the shrink plastic for beads. DD crochets (she actually crocheted herself a top for the concert) so is making little pink hearts which we're adding beads to. Here's the first prototype- excuse the very beat up table which has seen better days.

In other news, a new K-pop shop has opened in Belfast so we visited it yesterday and it's great.

Looks amazing @mrsfeatherbottom! I can only crochet in straight lines lol. There is a Rosé pop up shop in London and I'm anticipating a pre concert merch sale so was going to go to both but having looked at the sad state of my finances yesterday, I have decided to try and stay strong and not buy anything. The next couple of paydays are going straight to paying off my credit card. I am resolved to just staying at home for the rest of the hols (and all the way to half term) and watching dramas lol

Yep! I’ll have to make the trip out to Bbangya soon 👍

Opportunities for good food/fun etc are sadly lacking - the excellent Korean restaurant/cafe on Botanic has closed down, so did the corn dog/boba place on Upper Queen St. but I did spot a new K-street food place open in the Eco foods store on Botanic 👍

mrsfeatherbottom · 10/08/2025 13:03

It's worth the trip - really well stocked.

Oh that's sad that those places have closed down Briiiick ☹️ exciting that a new shop has opened though! 🎉

Rowdythree · 10/08/2025 16:22

DD and I went to see Jin in London D2, it was so much fun! He was always my least favourite BTS member but after seeing him live, I was definitely unfair to him (sorry Jin) 😬

The next concerts we have coming up are Enhypen in Manchester followed by Blaming Tiger in London later this month 🤩

hanka · 10/08/2025 19:39

Very satisfying end to the Law and the City.
I just had a thought though after the end titles finished and it stayed with them all eating - they eat A LOT in kdramas, don’t they? Do the actors just eat their fill on set and then don’t have to cook at home/go out to eat? There was seriously a lot of eating in this drama…
