We've just enjoyed Criminal Record (Apple TV via Prime). 2024. With Cush Jumbo and Peter Capaldi.

TyneFilth · 13/02/2025 17:27

Currently obsessed with "Astrid: Murder in Paris" on 4. It's in (very fast!) French with subtitles

AltitudeCheck · 13/02/2025 17:31

Came here to say Deadloch... it took me a few episodes to get into but I really enjoyed it.

Is it a comedy?

Haven't found that one, which channel/service?

AltitudeCheck · 13/02/2025 17:42

@skyfirechesnut there are definitely some absurd characters and there are parts that are very funny but I wouldn't say it's a primarily a comedy. It does gently poke fun at some stereotypes of rural Tasmania and toxic masculinity throughout.

RitaIncognita · 13/02/2025 17:45

Annika
Karen Pirie
Shetland (later series)

skyfirechesnut · 13/02/2025 17:51

@TyneFilth it is on channel 4 the uk version of Astrid.

Zingy123 · 13/02/2025 17:53

Vera

chineapplepunks · 13/02/2025 17:55

Rizzoli and Isles! Think it's on prime.

JackieGoodman · 13/02/2025 18:08

@Trainersprocrastination Top of the lake? Great series
Definitely The Bridge, The Killing and Deadwind (Finnish), Mare of Eastown (Kate Winslet, fab!), Marcella (not fab but worth a watch)
If you aren't keen on subtitles there's an american version of The Killing which was pretty good, imo.

RedRiverShore5 · 13/02/2025 19:20

I'm watching High Potential on Disney at the moment which has a female lead but it's not a gritty type of drama, more like Death in paradise or Good ship murder type series

RitaIncognita · 13/02/2025 19:29

I second High Potential. Usually "quirky" or in this case "quirky-adjacent" is not my cup of tea, but I think it's really well done, and the main character is very appealing.

Also I agree that Mare of Eastown is very good. For one thing, Kate nails that regional Pennsylvania accent that is a difficult one to pull off. It really adds to the realism.

CurlewKate · 13/02/2025 19:35

Happy Valley is great. And despite the name of the series, I think Robin is the hero of Strike. She's great.

TickingAlongNicely · 13/02/2025 19:36

Return to Paradise (the latest in the Death in Paradise franchise) had a female lead
