New 6 part detective series

Harry Virdee is a detective hunting down a killer targeting the Asian community in Bradford (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradford).

Meanwhile, his Sikh family are dismayed at his
decision to marry Saima, who is Muslim.

The writer behind a new BBC crime thriller filmed and set in Bradford has said he wanted to "show off" his home in its UK City of Culture year.

Virdee, adapted from a set of novels written by AA Dhand, will premiere at Bradford's St George's Hall on Thursday, before airing on the BBC on Monday.

The series will introduce DCI Harry Virdee - a police detective whose troubled home life stems from his Sikh family's disapproval of his marriage to a Muslim wife and the activities of his drug kingpin brother-in-law.

The title character's "love for his family and his city will be challenged" as the series progresses, according to Staz Nair, who played Harry Virdee.

"Harry is a man who will protect what he loves and who he loves at any cost," Nair, who previously appeared in Game of Thrones, said.

"This man lives by his own moral compass and his own moral code and will do whatever he has to do get the job done, even if that means surfing the line of the law."

Come back to me after tonight and I bet you she'll be dead!

Sorry to be a pedant, but he’s Hindu not Sikh (celebrating Diwali).
I really enjoyed it, though others in my family said there are too many story lines. It’s really nice for us, because one of the characters is named after my DS physics teacher (who was also the author’s teacher). It felt quite realistically Bradford to me.

Obviously wrong there 😬 he’s half Sikh half Hindu but practising Sikh? Religion doesn’t half mess life up.

No spoilers from me BUT I couldn’t resist and watched them all.
It was so well done, the acting the setting and the way each episode starts at a different point.

I hesitate to say (as it may come out wrong), but it really seemed to portray British Asians as they live now in what was once white society. No tokenism just people.

I really hope there is a second series.

deeahgwitch · 20/02/2025 14:02

I deleted episode 2.
I'm not going to bother watching.
I just don't like drug gang stuff.
There's enough of it in real life causing mayhem 🥲

Eldermilleniallyogii · 20/02/2025 14:50

I've watched them all and thought it was really good apart from some bits being a tad unrealistic!

diddl · 22/02/2025 20:53

Just tried ep1 & it's not for me.

Drugs, gangs, thug of an ex who turns up even though he shouldn't.
