New 6 part detective series

Harry Virdee is a detective hunting down a killer targeting the Asian community in Bradford (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradford).

Meanwhile, his Sikh family are dismayed at his
decision to marry Saima, who is Muslim.

The writer behind a new BBC crime thriller filmed and set in Bradford has said he wanted to "show off" his home in its UK City of Culture year.

Virdee, adapted from a set of novels written by AA Dhand, will premiere at Bradford's St George's Hall on Thursday, before airing on the BBC on Monday.

The series will introduce DCI Harry Virdee - a police detective whose troubled home life stems from his Sikh family's disapproval of his marriage to a Muslim wife and the activities of his drug kingpin brother-in-law.

The title character's "love for his family and his city will be challenged" as the series progresses, according to Staz Nair, who played Harry Virdee.

"Harry is a man who will protect what he loves and who he loves at any cost," Nair, who previously appeared in Game of Thrones, said.

"This man lives by his own moral compass and his own moral code and will do whatever he has to do get the job done, even if that means surfing the line of the law."

I’ve watched the first 2 and now watching the last one. Not my cup of tea though finding the the Asian family side of things interesting.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/02/2025 19:41

I have Unforgotten saved, but have finished this. Also well aware of the rules, however, just a warning that this isn't for everyone. It does have some very dark and disturbing elements. I had to look away for quite a bit of it. As a guide, I've watched The Fall, Kin and most of the Colombian and Mexican drug cartel series.

It was complex in parts and some good actors in it, but I think it was the relationships between all the players that kept me watching to the end.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/02/2025 15:38

Oh really @martinisforeveryone. Thanks for warning

The end bit was like a horror movie.
There's a reason I stopped watching them.
I don't think I'll be continuing with it

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/02/2025 20:58

She won’t be dead. Hopefully. Just kidnapped

At the end? I'm pretty sure she's dead

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 12/02/2025 22:21

Oh, it's good... and very dark... 🫣

Oh. Is she. I thought she just got dragged off

i may have to rewatch the ending again

I’m not a very religious person but how can a persons religion make someone / a dad hate another person so much 🥲

was really sad to see the dad treat his son like that over him marrying a different religion /faith

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun for the thread. It’s giving me Luther vibes and is based on book series. I’m curious to know when they were written as I had no idea there was still so much hatred of interfaith marriages.

deeahgwitch · 13/02/2025 08:32

It's another bleak series. 🥲

Oldglasses · 13/02/2025 08:51

Watched the first two - I wasn't mega fussed with most of the first episode as don't normally like drug cartel type series, but the family relationships kept me watching in to the second ep and now I'm hooked! But you will turn away at one point in the second ep, it's not easy viewing.
Doesn't make me want to visit Bradford though, I have been there in fairly recent times as we have family up that way and it was a good central meeting point and it has the Media museum which is fab. The surrounding countryside is beautiful though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/02/2025 08:56

Wonder why they started on book 3

wonder if book one is him meeting wife /having child so 5yrs ago

and how he met bil the drugs king

I'm watching. I know Bradford so it's interesting seeing the city this way. I think they presented it really well! Virdee is hot (just saying). It's a really good drama all round. I'm on episode 5 now and really enjoying it.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 15/02/2025 10:15

Virdee is hot but Riaz... 😍

I could look at him all day!

I agree

I don’t watch thrones so don’t know him

I tried and really wanted to move it but it is just far too unrealistic and has too many holes for me.

Just spoilt the whole thing for me with how far away from police procedure and other things,

Live the concept though but a bit too unrealistic for me

Perseimmion · 17/02/2025 09:51

I’m watching and quite enjoying it. It’s different and I like the back story.

I like Unforgotten but I miss Nicola Walker. I do like Sanjeev though, he has such a lovely voice.

YoYoFlo · 17/02/2025 11:00

Enjoyed watching this - although I preferred the family/ relationships storylines to the killing/ horror/ Pauwa bits!

Bradford was looking fine as well!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/02/2025 15:12

E2 tonight

I spent the whole of the first episode wondering where I recognised Virdee from. He played William in Supergirl. He's got quite the acting CV. Totally agree, it has the feel of Luther (plus he puts his collar up on his coat 😍)
