Anyone else watching? I'm intrigued to see if it changes any of the racists opinions.

'flap guzzler' what an awful phrase

Myfanwyprice · 03/02/2025 22:32

I found the attitudes so depressing, I hope that this experience will change their racist views, but the clips from the upcoming episodes do not give me much hope.

When being told about fgm, the reaction of ‘why cut off the clit, it’s the best bit’ was utterly gross, where do they find these people!!

BiggerBoat1 · 03/02/2025 22:36

I don’t think they’ll change. It’s so depressing that people like this feel able to express these opinions as if they are perfectly valid. Total lack of empathy or any kind of decent human emotion.

purpleme12 · 03/02/2025 22:54

98 per cent of girls are mutilated in Somalia

purpleme12 · 03/02/2025 22:55

This woman was married at 13

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 03/02/2025 23:00

I’ve got hope for the chef. He seemed to be very moved by that family and their living conditions.

purpleme12 · 03/02/2025 23:22

Were they in 2 different groups?

Was a bit confused as one minute I'd see one of the group then the next they didn't seem to be in the scene?

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 03/02/2025 23:48

Yes one group were in Syria. And the other in Somalia.

purpleme12 · 03/02/2025 23:49

Ah right

I got mixed with that somehow!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 04/02/2025 07:23

When the kids were picking through the rubbish in Somalia and one of the Brits said 'you can tell they're getting into it - the entrepreneurial spirit'. I'm so glad the other woman pulled her up on it.

What I don't understand is why you'd want to go on a program like this and advertise that you're a racist to the world? I guess people still believe there's no such thing as bad publicity.

purpleme12 · 04/02/2025 08:01

Well surely because people think they're right and those views aren't racist

millymoo1202 · 04/02/2025 08:04

Awful people, I was cringing for them!

The remark about the children having entrepreneurial spirit was unforgivably crass and ignorant.

Wrongsideofpennines · 05/02/2025 20:36

There was an Australian series that I assume is the same concept. The majority of participants came out of it with significantly more sympathetic views. I've not seen the C4 series yet but the participants sound awful which makes me not really want to bother.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 10/02/2025 23:06

Eurgh the 'social media manager' isn't getting any better is she? 'Oh look they've got tiling in here that's not so bad'. And 'the hospitals weren't that bad...I expected to see people with missing limbs'. Strewth.

Wow that aerial view of Dadaab refugee camp 😳

Home to nearly 400,000 refugees 😳

purpleme12 · 10/02/2025 23:52

Wow this place with the sewage there 🤢

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 11/02/2025 01:09

It was all grim :(

I get the impression generally that racists are proud of their views.

Rugbyterms · 11/02/2025 06:16

I am watching. I think the chef is changing his views slightly. Particularly when it’s seeing children. The social media female is awful. Her views are disgraceful. I also thought the other guy might be coming round but then he was talking to the young lad in the restaurant about coming to England.

Myfanwyprice · 11/02/2025 07:43

I appreciate that Jess’ views come from fear from her past assaults, but how can she honestly believe that all men from one country are rapists, her shock when she realised that maybe there are good and bad people everywhere! But I’m not sure it’s enough to change her views.

I wonder how they feel watching this back, if their views have changed at all.

The social media manager is truly awful, believes that because she has a degree she must be right, that her views are coming from an educated place, but says the most terrible things.

When the chef asked if the crossings could be dangerous!!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 11/02/2025 15:03

I really feel for Jess but I still don't get why she thinks all male refugees are rapists. Did she say her rapists refugees or something and I missed that bit?

I’m not sure, she said one happened when she was 16 and that she went to Thailand to get away and was attacked there, which is just awful, but not sure how that has evolved to her seeing all Somalians as a threat to her.

StrikeAlways · 12/02/2025 00:25

Okay, I’ve now watched the first two episodes and I’m horrified! I hated it, but couldn’t tear my eyes away. Chloe is awful, but probably what we should expect from an Oxford PPE graduate (isn’t that the background of most Tory Ministers?). The big bloke’s (whose name I didn’t get) relentless unfunny one liners are so often grossly inappropriate and cringe making and the Welsh woman (ditto) responding to the Syrian woman in the refugee camp who didn’t have sufficient food for her children and said “I work, but I don’t get enough”, with “yes us too, we have to buy Asda price” was painful.

Thankfully, Dave, who was all nasty bravado at the beginning has been genuinely moved, especially by the plight of children.

Most of these people are an embarrassment to the UK.

katienana · 13/02/2025 06:44

The Welsh woman being surprised that not all refugee men where rapists and paedophiles - "i thought it was in them from birth" i mean at least she changed her mind but still! The Asda price comment was awful as well.
Chloes reaction to seeing injured people in hospital was horrific, she's got no empathy. She bothers me the most because we can't say it's a lack of education. I can see where they're coming from if they're saying our services are under a lot of pressure and immigration needs to cut. But the way they go on seeing people as sub human and how far they'll go to defend their point is sickening.
Also missing the obvious point the lad in the restaurant could speak English so of course he will want to come to Britain!
