Anyone else watching? I'm intrigued to see if it changes any of the racists opinions.

The Yorkshire man is an embarrassment. I'd rather be in the company of the Somalians than his ignorant, common self. He's disgusting. He makes me ashamed to be northern.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2025 21:15

How did the first group get to Lampedusa? Did I miss that?

warmheartcoldfeet · 17/02/2025 21:17

I watched all 4 episodes with my 15 year old and it was really good to watch with him. We talked so much about the history of all these areas of the world as they journeyed through. And the fact it's sheer luck where you are born and what life throws at you.

I truly think that there are millions of people in England that think like the way these 4 did at first - they just can't understand the horrors these people have lived through for years and years. When it dawns on them how fucked up it all is, it clicks - you can almost see the lights come on.

Except the Oxford woman. Her lights ain't ever coming on.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2025 21:28

'shitting a kid out' lovely 😳

littlebilliie · 17/02/2025 21:33

Isn't the whole point of this series to bring together people who will speak out whatever their opinions? I think it's been well put together and I think they've got a broad spectrum of people speaking from the UK whatever that is for good or for worse.

There is no easy solution I agree it's really difficult watch .

SilvieBear · 17/02/2025 21:38

I can’t abide the ignorant Barnsley bloke. Speaking on behalf of all British people - ‘we think all refugees are scroungers’
ermmm you’re not speaking for me you twat.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2025 21:39

He's got such a way with words hasn't he 😳

SilvieBear · 17/02/2025 21:40

Actually I can’t abide Chloe either.
Dave has moments of empathy, and Jess too. It remains to be seen if their views change as a result of this though.

Eyesopenwideawake · 17/02/2025 21:45

That woman with the black wings on her eyes has had an empathy bypass, hasn't she?

SilvieBear · 17/02/2025 21:51

Interesting what she said about her Dad, and losing friends over her views.
Maybe she wants a job on GB news.

Very upsetting to read about the tweets from one of the people on the show against Jewish people. The X link has screenshots of her tweets. Horrifying.

Daisy03 · 17/02/2025 22:21

I suspect Chloe of being very ambitious and wanting either a job with reform or a position on GB news. There's no way someone could be that cold and un empathetic, I feel a lot was for show.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2025 22:22

I don't know, why would you do that for show...

WinterMorn · 17/02/2025 22:26

The first episode of this actually reduced me to tears, such was the callousness of some of those on it. It’s embarrassing and painful that these people are representative of many people in the UK.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 17/02/2025 22:28

Chloe just gets worse and worse. DH told me off for shouting at her just now!

OP posts:
Myfanwyprice · 18/02/2025 07:49

I wonder if there would be more value showing what happens when they arrive in the U.K. (maybe this will be shown in the next episode) as for them this is all very abstract, you can see in their faces - especially Chloe’s that she doesn’t really believe things are as dangerous as they are, doesn’t have the empathy to realise the desperation of these people and that she thinks they are different/dehumanises them. She also thinks they’ll have an easy life in 5* hotels with handouts once they reach their destination - the guy from Barnsley even commented on the people being taken to Italy that they’re being given water.

Maybe if they’re shown that it isn’t an easy ride if they survive the crossing this might help more.

Ace56 · 18/02/2025 22:40

I think the final episode was definitely a turning point for the majority of them. Seeing all the refugees in Calais trying to take the boats…all of them except Chloe seemed to have changed their minds by the end.

crackofdoom · 18/02/2025 22:50

Chloe seems like a fine candidate for future leader of the Conservative Party.

Ringpeace · 18/02/2025 23:04

Chloe is Chloe Dobbs. She and her monotone drone are all over right wing media. Currently retweeting Lee Anderson on X.

That's her level.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 18/02/2025 23:26

katienana · 13/02/2025 06:44

The Welsh woman being surprised that not all refugee men where rapists and paedophiles - "i thought it was in them from birth" i mean at least she changed her mind but still! The Asda price comment was awful as well.
Chloes reaction to seeing injured people in hospital was horrific, she's got no empathy. She bothers me the most because we can't say it's a lack of education. I can see where they're coming from if they're saying our services are under a lot of pressure and immigration needs to cut. But the way they go on seeing people as sub human and how far they'll go to defend their point is sickening.
Also missing the obvious point the lad in the restaurant could speak English so of course he will want to come to Britain!

I wonder if her thoughts are related to her past. She said she was raped in the uk and then she went to Thailand and was raped there as well.

She seemed so fixated on them all being murderers and rapists I wonder if it's linked to that past trauma

WinterMorn · 18/02/2025 23:44

It’s hard to understand why someone with such past experiences would seemingly be supportive of the odious Tate brothers.

Horrace · 19/02/2025 11:22

Regardless of their views. Racist or not. I couldn't get past that big bearded Barnsley bloke and all of his vile comments.
Imagine knowing someone like him. He was an embarrassment to all men the way he spoke about women.
He made me feel physically sick.
I didn't know people actually spoke like that.

StrikeAlways · 19/02/2025 14:14

Definitely a Rabbit away there!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 24/02/2025 22:16

I've just finished watching. So glad that everyone had a change of heart...even though I'm not 100% convinced Chloe was genuine.

I don’t think Chloe did at all.
