can't wait, I'm loving this series so much. Can't bear that hatchet faced Jenny, is she called Jenny?!

OP posts:
ceebee74 · 08/05/2008 10:09

Binkle - sorry I disagree...

Alex is GORGEOUS!!!!

Am so glad Siralan got rid of the 2 witches - they were both poison if you ask me!

UQD - Jenny - shagworthy - really?? She reminded me of a painted doll with her over-mascaraed eyes and bright red lips.

binkleandflip · 08/05/2008 10:12

anyone of you brainy lot got an answer re difference of method between halal and kosher then? Taking your time getting back on that one

no, sorry, Alex is a child - Raef is a man

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 10:24

LOL LOL LOL Unquietdad at Jenny 'loosening up' after a couple of glasses of wine; you've thought this through!!!

Not unlike my dh who hated Jenny but was disappointed she was slung out because apparently she was the only 'eye candy' left. Nice!

But what about her abominable choice of lipstick on The App: you're fired??? She looked dreadful next to her usual glamour!

Margaret, you ARE the star of the show.

Surely, surely, surely, surely, surely NO ONE could have an MA in History/Classics without knowing the difference between halal and kosher? Honestly? I would argue that that is an impossibility therefore he cannot have a MA!! Someone's lying! binkleandflip I bet most people don't know the technical difference between halal and kosher but all anyone needs to know is that halal meat is acceptable to a Muslim to eat and Kosher food is prepared in a way that is acceptable for someone Jewish to eat. That's all he needs to know. Kosher has a more technical meaning than simply 'legitimate' as Hatchet Face said. It is a religious term for the correct prep of food.

Also binkleandflip I consider your lust for RAEF to be entirely incomprehensible. He is such a NOB! He is more feminine than any girly girl I've ever seen! He may be chivralrous but that don't make him man enough for me!!! HAving said that Alex is horribly vain with his nasty overgelled hair and as for Lee, no I dont' want to see him in his PANTS he looks dirty dirty dirty and NOT in a good way!!!!!

OP posts:
moodlumthehoodlum · 08/05/2008 10:31

LOL at Raef being the man from Delmonte. LMAO.

binkleandflip · 08/05/2008 10:35

Exactly ipanemegirl!! I know kosher = jewish and halal = muslim but the ins and outs of the different method - no idea and I admit it

Agree, agree, agree about Lee, he looks like he needs a good steam cleaning and brush up lol.

HOw can any red-blooded woman not find Raef hugely loin-churning?? Complete mystery to me

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 08/05/2008 10:37

Kosher and Halal
As ipanemagirl says, while the slaughter methods might seem pretty similar to people who are neither Jewish nor Muslim, it's a respect issue. Don't these Apprentices live in cities or go food shopping? If halal and kosher chickens are interchangeable why are they separately produced and sold?

bagsforlife · 08/05/2008 10:38

I think they all get MAs at Edinburgh, same as at Cambridge. DH has an MA (Cantab) but was only there as an undergraduate. I was very surprised Michael (only 'half jewish') didnt know about Kosher food... unbelievable! Even youngest DC (12),and not Jewish, had some idea, but none of them are exactly 'Brain of Britain' are they???? Lee can hardly string two words together (quite apart from the 'dinosaur' noise...what's all that about?). Raef is a gentleman BUT the Noel Coward dressing gown ensemble was a bit iffy. Alex is hideous.

MargaretMountford · 08/05/2008 10:39

Lee is just like an uncouth footballer

UnquietDad · 08/05/2008 10:41

Given that Marrakesh has a Jewish quarter and one team knew their best option was to go straight there for a kosher chicken, this rather suggests the other team didn't do their research. I can forgive them not knowing exactly what kosher was, but I can't forgive them not going away and looking it up.

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 10:45

Good morning Mme Mountford!

Well said, Lee is a pig!

Thank you bagsforlife very ignorant of me, had no idea Edinb was like Camb for giving every grad an MA!! Does Oxford do so too? Can't remember. Well if he only has first degree I guess it's plausible but still horrifyingly ignorant of him. His Jewish parent must be cringing with shame!

So sorry binkleandflip! I misunderstood you! I have little idea about the technical difference but will look at those helpful links!

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 10:47

Yes UQD the great crime was lack of prep. Unforgivable for one of the best salespeople in Europe, unforgivable and the mistake so many of them seem to make in every task! Weird.

OP posts:
Janni · 08/05/2008 10:48

Alex is the only one I'd look twice at. Lee is awful, Michael is dim and Raef oozes smooth.

We love you Margaret.

Janni · 08/05/2008 10:50

You can get an MA from Oxford after a certain amount of time has elapsed since graduation and upon payment of a fee.

It sucks.

ZeMNetterWithZeBigBoobies · 08/05/2008 11:01

So everyone missed Jennifers' walk out of the boardroom, where she pushed the door instead of pulling?

Did you not ROFL?

hannahsaunt · 08/05/2008 11:08

Just to note - an MA from Edinburgh is an undergraduate degree akin to a BA from an English university. It does not operate an Oxbridge system of purchasing a top-up degree a few years down the line.

And v glad that Chinny McGinger is out. She ought to have gone last week after the whole 'I don't buy cards for environmental reasons' debacle. And at 36 (!!!!!) she ought to be ashamed of many things, not least her astounding lack of general knowledge.

TillyScoutsmum · 08/05/2008 11:20

Yay - ginger Jen has gone... Can't believe s'rallen didn't say "Happy Birthday, You're Fired".. She was just so hideous and loathsome and didn't even redeem herself much on the after show.

I'm warming to Claire and S'rallen really seems to like her

Margaret is a class act - the Edinburgh line is perhaps the line of the series so far. Genius. DP, rather worryingly, proclaimed last night that he reckons MM would have been a bit of a stunner in her youth (its the blue eyes). Am off to see if I can find a photo

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 11:26

You have to hand to Lee's team for their prep. It's just basic isn't it?

OP posts:
MargaretMountford · 08/05/2008 11:41

Tilly - I've been scouring the web for pictures too ! how old d'you reckon Margaret is ? any children - I think not, somehow. She is, you'll realise my favourite !

TillyScoutsmum · 08/05/2008 12:09

There's not much info is there ? (God, I really need to get out more ).. A couple of websites say she is 55-56 years old and is divorced. No mention of children and no bikini shots of her in her 20's - poor dp

katierocket · 08/05/2008 12:12

"Margaret is a class act - the Edinburgh line is perhaps the line of the series so far."

Oh I so agree.

There is a Mumsnetter who knows her/has worked with her. I think it might be dejags but can't remember for certain. Apparently she has a fierce intellect.

mrsshackleton · 08/05/2008 12:34

Keep remembering more comedy moments
Jennny "It's my birthday today, Sr'Alun."
Like he'd go all soft on her and say in that case you're forgiven everything
Sr'Alun, conversely, getting all sentimental on Michael "I remember when I was a young man ... and couldn't tell the difference between Jews and Muslims either"
Did he purposefully put all the thick ones in one team and the brighter ones in the other - to have five people not grasping the kosher concept beggars belief, the others got it straight away.
Raef's scarf in the balloon episode was brilliant, his outfits just get better and better
Raef or Lucinda to win (but they won't because he chose a posh 'un last year)

ipanemagirl · 08/05/2008 12:36

katierocket someone posted an article all about Margaret and Nick from the Daily Mail I think, if you go back a few pages on this thread you should find it.

OP posts:
spokette · 08/05/2008 14:54

I've loved Raef from the beginning and only he or Lucinda deserve to win. The man has style, grace, deportment and integrity. There is nothing more attractive than a man who exudes understated aplomb and unswerving dignity.

I also love Lucinda - a stylish,winsome ingenue.

Alex is a deceitful weasel whose lips appear to have a life of their own.

Lee is a caveman judging by the way he speaks.

Michael is a privately educated, arrogant twit who makes a lot a noise but as we know, empty barrels..........

Sralan likes Clare but would find her too disruptive and antagonistic.

Sara is a condescending sulk who exudes an air of sneering superiority but that does not excuse the appalling way she was treated at the end of last weeks show. She has redeemed herself this week but I have no doubt that she will revert to type.

Janni · 08/05/2008 16:02

Margaret is/was a partner at Herbert Smith law firm in London, if that helps your searches at all!!

Furball · 08/05/2008 16:04

also amusing (though not just on the apprentice) that when speaking to people in a different country, their english takes on a foreign broken english accent - as if that would make it easier to understand????
