Is this like masterchef in format? I've been wanting to try it but never get around to it, but now that old gregg has gone, I need something new

Sunbird24 · 24/01/2025 23:05

A bit I guess - they have a theme for the year, the chefs compete by regions in groups of 4, they all have to do a canapé type thing, a starter and a fish course for a judge chef, then the one with the lowest score leaves and the rest cook their mains, pre-dessert and dessert. The lowest scoring one after that goes home and the last two cook for another set of judges which usually includes a celeb from their region. The one with the highest score goes on to compete against the winners from the other regions. Finally the judges choose a winning chef for each course and those chefs cook at a banquet.

Not a hint of Gregggg anywhere along the line, the fabulous Andi Oliver is the main presenter throughout

Thank you, I will be sat 🤭😊

I love GBM. Andi Oliver is wonderful, and it always amuses me to see Ed Gamble behaving like the well brought up young man he is, and standing up for lady guests and using his napkin properly and putting people at ease....🤣

Sunbird24 · 27/01/2025 09:03

Just seen that Nisha Katona has been replaced on the judging panel by Lorna McNee, really looking forward to seeing how she does as a judge instead of in the kitchen.

Looks like the theme is UK heroes, so lots of scope for regional specialities.

Oooo I like Lorna be interesting to see how she is on the other side.

'Great Britons' is the theme, and supposed to be from the chefs area, so I suppose we could get multiple Tom Jones dishes in wales and Robbie Burns in Scotland but not so many repeats across the regions, unless they all do the Queen.

PotterHead1985 · 27/01/2025 21:31

I found ye!!!! Here for all of it of course

EsmaCannonball · 27/01/2025 23:15

I love the GMB even more than MasterChef. The brief this year sounds interesting. It will be interesting to see Lorna as a judge. I liked her as a chef but she seemed to have a fairly subdued personality.

PotterHead1985 · 28/01/2025 19:20

Excited for tonight

CurlewKate · 28/01/2025 19:48

Evening all

EsmaCannonball · 28/01/2025 20:02

I really like the idea behind this series and the banquet sounds like a proper banquet. But I get we get some Great British Icons who are a bit of a stretch. Sort of Boudicaa, William Shakespeare ....... Bobby Crush.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/01/2025 20:03

Let’s see who’s in the kitchen - all newcomers!

jay55 · 28/01/2025 20:04

I roasted a chicken for dinner so am feeling particularly smug and judgy tonight Grin

Excited to see how they shoehorn in the theme.

PotterHead1985 · 28/01/2025 20:04

How old is she if she's the youngest

EsmaCannonball · 28/01/2025 20:04

I thought the bun guy had the look of a forager. Looks like the English cousin of Bench Seating Guy from Your Home Made Perfect.

Sunbird24 · 28/01/2025 20:05

Glad there’s a woman in the kitchen as well
